Audigy Sound Card Installs

Got a new AMD 64 3000+ running Suse 9.1 64 bit version. When setting up My Sound Blaster Audigy card throgh Yast2 I am recieving the following error: "The kernel module snd-emu10k1 for sound support could not be loaded. This can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IQ or IRQ parameters." I have disabled onboard sound from the bios, removed all refenced cards from the system, restarted and tried installing again. All with no avail. Contacted Suse support, and they passed me over to you. Looking for some good ideas. Geforce4 MX 440 Dual Monitor Setup Problems

Hey Guys, The last time I ran a linux box was over four years ago, when I ran slackware on a little compaq. I have just been able to get back on the wagon and must say alot has changed since then, and I'm a little rusty still. That in mind here is my issue: I have been trying to setup my Geforce4 MX 440 dual head card on my new SUSE 9.1 64bit system. I cannot get the card to be recognized as a dual monitor card for multi heading. I have installed the latest NVidia 64bit drivers. There is only one recognized driver for the card, and so it does not provide multi heading display support. I have been told that it should be replicating the card automaticly. I have setup xinerama, and tried replicating the card in Sax2 (with the type set to secondary display), and have had no luck. Checked forums, and had my guru friends over to check it out. I have not had any luck, and don't know where else to look or what to do. No sound 9.1 via-82xx

Java Segfaults on Opteron w/ Suse 9.1

Hello; We're having problems with java on our dual opteron 242 box. The box has 2gb Ram, and a Tyan 2885 mb. We have an application that runs in jboss 3.2.3. We installed a clean copy of 64 bit Suse 9.1 and setup our application. We have been running 64 bit Suse 9.0 before this; we had tried some of the preproduction 2.6 kernels for that and got similar errors. The standard 2.4 kernel(201) works without those errors, although the last 2 builds (209 and 215) have caused some less severe java out of memory errors. We've tried 3 different JVM's and got the same errors, the JVM's are the Blackdown.org 32 and 64 bit rc1 versions and the Sun 1.4.2_3. All the version info and processor info are below. Any idea where I can go for some help with this? Well In mean time to getting reply to this I went into yast2 from command line an looking around in the monitor/card ect I notice that 3d accellerator was enabled. not sure why it was since I did not set it up that way an I disabled it an its working now. I got suse 9.1 up an running last week. Today i log out of xwin an do some things from the commandline an switch users an then go back to other user an run startx. it will not start I get fatal server error: no screens found. How can i get it running again. thanks jack

Machine doesn't switch off

Hello, my machine ("AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+", SuSE 9.1, Mainbord "FUJITSU SIEMENS D1607") doesn't switch off when I shut down the system. Any ideas? Greetings, Achim

The fun never ends. TO recap, I installed SLES 8 onto a dual Opteron 244 system running on a MSI K8D Master board. I was getting hangs on bootup when the process gets to setting up the IDE disks. I found that I was able to boot into safe mode every time, but a full boot was nearly impossible. I suspected the Adaptec 29160 HBA was interfering with it, so when I removed it, the system boots up. So I brought the system up this way, and our DBA was able to install Oracle 9, and create a test database. During one of the times that the system booted up with the 29160, I found that it had trouble working with either the disk or the file system on the disk that was more than 1TB in size. So far, this OS is not impressing me at all. I also saw a whole bunch of emails about upgrading to Service Pack 3, so that's what I did. Lo and behold, the boot problems went away, and the system seemed to be able to work with disks greater than 1 TB. All seemed fine. The only problem is that the SCSI HBA is not automatically configured into the system, and I have to force load the aic-7xxx driver from a script in /etc/init.d/bootd. But now, as my DBA tries to install another database, a real one, he finds the Java based install procedure always crashing at the same place. The message that pops up shows an error while trying to write to some Java library file. The file appears to be there, but since the procedure is so opaque, we have no idea what it's trying to do. We tried different versions of JDK, with the same results. The tech support at Oracle says that these types of error messages in association with SP3 on SLES 8 usually indicates that not all of the kernel patches have been installed. Yet when I use YOU to check the SuSE site for updates, it would find no more patches. I have just re-installed the SLES 8 off of my CDs, and it is refusing to boot up. It is consistent with my suspicion that when the install procedure configures the 29160 card (or any other SCSI card) into the initrd, the system simply will not boot. The console message is: Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference The machine does not respond to any kind of interrupts in this state, and I have to hold down the power button to shut it off. But oddly, if I select Safe Boot from the GRUB menu, it boots up, but in obvisouly limited mode. What is the difference? So the situation is, if I don't apply these patches, I can not boot. If I do apply these patches, I can not install our primary application, Oracle 9i. If I don't find a solution soon, I will have to ask SuSE for my money back on this wonderful product, and try the Red Hat Enterprise Server. My colleagues are now very wary of the situation as well, which sort of reinforces their original preference for RHES. (Yes, they're saying "I told you so") Any ideas? eyc
