(newbie alert) All I really want to do is apply a minor patch to nasm to make the preprocessor work for 64bit stack arguments too. However once I got started I noticed that the latest nasm stable is 2.09.07, whereas our current version is 2.07. Now that 11.4 has been released, when Factory will start to use RPM 4.9.0? And... what that means to packagers? * "Dependency generators are now pluggable. Arbitrary number of dependency types is supported, new types can be added through a drop-in directory and file classification is now done with a combination of path and libmagic-type include/exclude regular expressions (XXX add link to documentation once it exists)" How they exactly work? Something should be changed about %wx_requires? * "EXPERIMENTAL support for package "collections" which are sort of like named triggers that only run once within a transaction. This can be used for example to avoid redundant calls for cache updates etc. (XXX add link to documentation once it exists)" Experimental? Should we use this instead of multiple calls to gtk-update-icon-cache? It's expected that openSUSE 11.4 + 1 will use a newer RPM where collections are no longer experimental? * "Short-circuiting binary builds is now allowed by rpmbuild for developer convenience while testing. Short-circuited packages are tainted with an unsatisfiable dependency to limit their use for the intended testing-only purpose." How? [opensuse-packaging] H4 Packaging - Horde 4 Alpha1 out

Last night I did a test drive of Horde 4 Alpha 1 from pear.horde.org The stuff basically works but unlike the framework components, the apps are not yet fit for packaging. The framework has been split into like 30 pear packages. I will begin packaging them first (and apps only later when they're stable enough). Any help/cooperation welcome, double work to be avoided. I want to develop this in a separate home project and push the thing to server:php:applications in a whole bunch once I am confident it works as desired. [opensuse-packaging] Reproducible .tar.gz compression?

I have a package that "tar czf"s a directory in the build process. This breaks build-compare since every compression generates a different file. A "tar cjf" (bz2) doesn't suffer from the same problem... Any idea? Can "tar czf" produce reproducible results? Hi, installer is doing this for "backward compatibility" /usr/bin/install -c -d /usr/src/packages/BUILDROOT/dahdi-tools-2.4.1-0.x86_64/etc/hotplug/usb /usr/bin/install -c -m 644 xpp_fxloader.usermap /usr/src/packages/BUILDROOT/dahdi-tools-2.4.1-0.x86_64/etc/hotplug/usb/ # for backward compatibility and for hotplug users: ln -sf /usr/share/dahdi/xpp_fxloader /usr/src/packages/BUILDROOT/dahdi-tools-2.4.1-0.x86_64/etc/hotplug/usb/ and on 11.4 it results in dahdi-tools-2.4.1-0.x86_64.rpm: directories not owned by a package: - /etc/hotplug - /etc/hotplug/usb Is this perhaps an obsolete DIR and should be changed ? ( to what ?) What is the correct way to fix it. [opensuse-packaging] Are there any IDEs that know how to package?

Are there any IDEs that know how to set up the g++/gcc autoconf automake libtool tool chain and also know how to create a debian source package and a rpm spec file? It seems to me that if an IDE only knows how to create the executable, it would not be of very much use to FS developers, because they will eventually have to do the above by hand if the ide does not do it for them. I think that some of the guidelines would require hand tweaking and experience with the software. All, I brought a spec file in from another distro. It used %{perl_vendorarch} which did not expand. I found %perl_vendorarch worked. Is that a expansion bug? If so, I can put it in bugzilla. Anyone knows how to make diff packages? I've looked around rpm.org, but I couldn't find anything.
