[opensuse-packaging] Right usage of libexecdir?

Hey, Dominique and I are currently wondering what to do wrt libexecdir for evolution-data-server. Should we leave it unchanged (so files will be in /usr/lib) or should we change it to /usr/lib/evolution-data-server? If the latter, is there any reason this is not done automatically? Also, hrm, would rpmlint have ways to warn about packages that put binaries in libdir instead of libexecdir? Fellow developers and users, just a heads-up: moments ago I have submitted a new Python version 2.7. This version contains many new and interesting features, and only a small chance of breaking existing code: no backwards-incompatible changes, and no big changes worth mentioning. For more details see [1]. There is one thing notable for people who write or maintain software that embeds Python: the new function PySys_SetArgvEx [2] does the job originally done by PySys_SetArgv, but closes a nasty security problem with the latter [3][4]. Most software should be fixed by now, but please review your packages anyway. have fun m. [opensuse-packaging] packaging openoffice extensions oxt

Dear all, does anyone have experience packaging openoffice extensions? - althogh it might not be a bad idea to package openoffice extentions in general for system wide installation and usage - in this case, I only need it for one/two required extensions. Apparently, something like that exists in ubuntu. Telling from what I found the following might be possible: - set requirement to have openoffice installed - take the oxt file and copy it to the machine - take the correct path and install oxt with the opensuse packager on the command line called unopkg - call: /path/to/unopkg add --shared my-extension.oxt oxt files are renamed zip archives, so in another scenario one could just rename the archive, extract it and install the files in the right location ... but I'm not sure how to register the extension. [opensuse-packaging] Recommends/Requires for lang files

For -lang files that only contain .mo files (translations) and no doc files etc., we should use Recommends and not Requires. This allows users that run an English only system to remove the lang files completely. Please keep this in mind when packaging and change the spec files. Hello Mates, i have some trouble with my skrooge Package. Building and installing goes good. If i run it via console i'm getting: skrooge(21668)/kdecore (trader) KServiceTypeTrader::defaultOffers: KServiceTypeTrader: serviceType "SKG GUI/Plugin" not found skrooge(21668)/kdeui (kdelibs): Attempt to use QAction "view_context" with KXMLGUIFactory! Then the Program Starts with Splashscreen and the Main Program. But i just can see the frames, but no other things. The Menue is near empty. Hi, fell over the problem, that perl usually is using other versioning scheme than rpm is. Example: Version changes of perl-Sub-Uplevel 0.22 Tue Nov 17 05:38:42 EST 2009 0.21_01 Sat Nov 29 15:24:49 EST 2008 0.2002 Thu Sep 11 14:33:09 EDT 2008 0.2001 Tue Sep 9 22:22:40 EDT 2008 0.20 Tue Sep 9 19:23:35 EDT 2008 perl is using a decimalized versioning, where 0.22 > 0.2002, but for rpm it isn't. I think most perl Module Authors do not really know, that they are using a decimalized versioning. IMHO ther perl version should be normalized for packaging. 0.22 would be normalized to 0.220.0 (version->new(0.22)->normal) and 0.2002. would be normalized to 0.200.200. I can adopt cpanspec to do this for newly created packages, but this will only work for perl(version) >= 0.77 (openSuSE >= 1130). And the two scripts (perl.prov, perl.req) delivered with rpm should be adopted too, cause "find-provides". What do you think ? Hi, In 11.4, we're introducing a new set of rpm macros (shipped in the devel packages of gtk2, gtk3, gdk-pixbuf and glib) to make it easy to register GTK+ IM modules, GIO modules, gdk-pixbuf loaders and GSettings schemas. At the moment, not all of this is in Factory, but it will reach Factory in the next few days, so if you're aware of a package that needs to be fixed, be ready to fix it. Note that some of this replaces the old SuSEconfig way of doing things (for gtk2 IM modules and for gdk-pixbuf loaders). I grepped for run-gtk in Factory, and as far as I can tell, at least those packages need to be fixed for this change: ibus imhangul scim-bridge scim tamil-gtk2im uim If help is needed for those packages, please tell me. The macros for GIO modules and GSettings schemas are actually new: nothing was registering GIO modules correctly earlier (as far as I know) and GSettings schemas are new in 11.4. Here's the documentation from the macros.* files shipped in the packages. Hi, I'm getting "comp.c:42:3: warning: dereferencing type-punned pointer will break strict-aliasing rules" that translates to "I: Program is likely to break with new gcc. Try -fno-strict-aliasing. W: sipp strict-aliasing-punning comp.c:42, 46, 50" through post-build-checks. The thing is the offending code is "*(void **)(&comp_compress) = dlsym(handle, "comp_compress");" And the man page of dlsym explicitly says that is the correct way to do it: /* Writing: cosine = (double (*)(double)) dlsym(handle, "cos"); would seem more natural, but the C99 standard leaves casting from "void *" to a function pointer undefined. The assignment used below is the POSIX.1-2003 (Technical Corrigendum 1) workaround; see the Rationale for the POSIX specification of dlsym(). */ So, the question: could gcc -O2 really break that code? Or that's a false warning and I can be 100% safe ignoring it? Hi, I am the upstream author of S3QL (http://code.google.com/p/s3ql/) If I interpret https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=s3ql correctly, then pbleser (pascal.bleser(a)opensuse.org) has recently created an S3QL package for opensuse. While I am generally quite happy about this, there are a few things that I would like to have addressed. I tried to mail Pascal about this, but I did not get a response. Since I'm not sure if he is actually the right guy to contact, I'm posting this here again. Hopefully someone will be able to help. Note that I am not familiar with OpenSUSE at all, so some questions may sound a bit naive to you :-). - I would really like the package description to include the development status as reported on the homepage and in the source tarball. S3QL is still in beta stage, and I would like to make this very clear in the package as well. Would it be possible to change the description? - Where will bugs reported against the package show up? If it's on an OpenSUSE bug tracker: is there a way to automatically subscribe me? - Is there something like a stable and unstable version of OpenSUSE? If so, where will the S3QL package be in? I would not feel very good about having a beta package in a stable distribution... - Could you provide some instructions on how to get and install the OpenSUSE S3QL package for users of the current stable OpenSUSE? Then I could add these to the S3QL Wiki. [opensuse-packaging] Where to define some rpm macros needed by many packages?

Hi, I'm facing three cases where many packages should do something in %post/%postun but usually don't do anything because it's some manual work, and I want to provide macros to make it easier to fix this. The three cases are: + when installing a .desktop file, update-desktop-database should be called + when installing an icon in the hicolor theme, gtk-update-icon-cache should be called + when installing some mime information in /usr/share/mime, update-mime-database should be called I could put macros for this in the respective packages (desktop-file-utils, gtk2 and shared-mime-info), but I'm not really sure it's good to force every package installing a .desktop to have a BuildRequires on desktop-file-utils... On the other hand, I don't feel those macros should live in the rpm package itself either. Any idea what would be the best solution? (Btw, the best long-term solution is some trigger in rpm when a file get installed in a directory, but I've been waiting for this for a long time and I don't see it moving...) Hello, I need help to combine this shell script [1] and .spec file [2]into one .spec file to do the whole job and run from obs. Can someone help at joining the two together and list what the new .spec file would look like. The reason I ask is I can run the script locally and its builds the rpms and I want obs to do the building instead. Hello, I have packaged the Mail::Sender perl module (which is required by PostfixAdmin's vacation script). The buildservice successfully created packages for openSUSE >= 11.2, but it fails for 11.1 with + %perl_gen_filelist /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.94042: line 31: fg: no job control error: Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.94042 (%install) Does someone have an idea what is wrong and how I can fix it? Hi I've built a kernel module patched to flip the webcam video, however when trying to install on 11.3 I get the following error; Problem: uvcvideo-kmp-default-0.1.0_k2.6.34.0_14.5-1.x86_64 requires kernel(default:drivers_media_video) = 23cb8be9eb1e8c79, but this requirement cannot be provided Solution 1: do not install uvcvideo-kmp-default-0.1.0_k2.6.34.0_14.5-1.x86_64 Solution 2: break uvcvideo-kmp-default by ignoring some of its dependencies Checking the kernel provides confirms kernel(default:drivers_media_video) = 23cb8be9eb1e8c79 is there? Hello - What directory do I use to copy in and later apply an extra patch to this kernel vanilla compilation [1] for this project [2]. I'm using a copy of the .spec file. - I know in the process runs a script [3] to copy and apply the patches. - So what line do I add to spec file to the copy in the .patch to the correct location ?, before the patch is applied. The .patch file applies ok on a dry run [4]. [opensuse-packaging] gnome-commander asking for gksu

Hi Not sure if i should bug this or not. A user on the forums <http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-help-here/applications/443578-gksu-p…> had an issue that the current gnome-commander build (for 11.3) asks for gksu rather than gnomesu. Of course a softlink to gnomesu is a solution, however looking at the source a simple search and replace of gksu for gnomesu is all that is needed. Tuesday 03 August 2010 Hello. I build a package against Factory repository with Categories=Utility;TextEditor;XMLUtility; in desktop-file. Installing desktop-file I got warning: WARNING: Category "XMLUtility" is unknown \! WARNING: it is ignored, until you registered a Category at opensuse-packaging(a)opensuse.org . [opensuse-packaging] Calibre PDF issue when packaged at OBS

Hello, I notice that when calibre is package at OBS it cannot read PDF nor convert PDF. However, using the same spec file locally and all the dependencies from the same repo(s) it works OK.
