[opensuse-packaging] Right usage of libexecdir?

Hey, Dominique and I are currently wondering what to do wrt libexecdir for evolution-data-server. Should we leave it unchanged (so files will be in /usr/lib) or should we change it to /usr/lib/evolution-data-server? If the latter, is there any reason this is not done automatically? Also, hrm, would rpmlint have ways to warn about packages that put binaries in libdir instead of libexecdir? [opensuse-packaging] Factory freeze

Hi, There seems to be some information missing about the state of Factory. With Milestone6 (the original deadline - last monday) all packages are version and feature frozen. This means: do not push new features / new versions / new packages towards Factory just because they are there. If you find that 11.3 will seriously lack something when not updating, then tell me personally or a list about it and give pros and cons. And let me get the biggest con straight: what we have in now has 2 months of testing, what we get later gets less testing. What you do in devel projects, is of course your concern - and pushing things there to test is of course a valid approach to convince me. Of course we exceeded the point where "succeeded" marks the end of testing. Hello all, I was investigating the build failures of VirtualBox for openSUSE 11.1 ... The package builds two KMPs, and so uses a custom filelist i.e. %defattr (-,root,root) dir /lib/modules/%2-%1/ %dir /lib/modules/%2-%1/updates /lib/modules/%2-%1/updates/vboxdrv.ko /lib/modules/%2-%1/updates/vboxnetadp.ko /lib/modules/%2-%1/updates/vboxnetflt.ko But on openSUSE 11.1 we are getting failures like > File not found: /var/tmp/virtualbox-ose-3.1.6-build/lib/modules/2.6.27.7-9-debug-debug (it builds fine on openSUSE 11.2) so "%2" is expanding to "version-flavour" rather than just "version" like CODE11 says it should (and like how it behaves on 11.2). This means openSUSE 11.1 is behaving according (at least for this macro) to CODE10 rather than CODE11. Is this expected? I thought openSUSE 11.1 followed CODE11, and this is what the documentation [1] states ... As a side note, this issue is not mentioned in the "CODE10->CODE11 changes" section of the CODE11 documentation. [opensuse-packaging] LLVM (for Mono) in 11.3?

Hello, The Mono team would like to have LLVM available in 11.3. We will be using LLVM in upcoming versions of mono and having it in 11.3 would make development easier for us and our many outside contributors. I am told that Duncan (dmacvicar) has packages of LLVM 2.6 ready and they just need to be imported to Factory. Unfortunately he's on leave until July (or October depending on which standard he was using when he wrote 10.07.2010). Can I get someone on the SUSE side of the pond to take ownership of this? Hi, Is there some documentation for configuring osc to use kvm for building? I tried yesterday, but was not successful. The only doc I could find was the sermon that was written into the .oscrc of a new user, and it was not too helpful. I have a package that started failing for Factory with: liballeg4_4-dga2-plugin.x86_64: E: shlib-fixed-dependency (Badness: 440) liballeg4_4 = 4.4.1.1 liballeg4_4-jack-plugin.x86_64: E: shlib-fixed-dependency (Badness: 440) liballeg4_4 = 4.4.1.1 liballeg4_4-oss-plugin.x86_64: E: shlib-fixed-dependency (Badness: 440) liballeg4_4 = 4.4.1.1 Your shared library package requires a fixed version of another package. The intention of the Shared Library Policy is to allow parallel installation of multiple versions of the same shared library, hard dependencies likely make that impossible. Please remove this dependency and instead move it to the runtime uses of your library. To be honest, I don't know the details of this one. But in general I expect plugins being able to use functions exported by the main library but not documented as public API, so they can change in any new minor version and I need to require the exact same version of the main library. Reading the explanation I am still not very sure about the objective of this check. Could someone give me one example where there would be a problem with parallel installation of multiple versions? So... - rpmlint needs to be fixed? - should plugin packages not be named libXXX? - should I just require liballeg4_4 >= 4.4.1.1? Hi, We introduced some new rpmlint failures you'll see: 1. /var/run was supposed to be mounted tmpfs in 11.3 and if we manage to change all packages, it will be. So rpmlint now will give it a pretty bad score, so please change the packages not to put files in there, but use %ghosts or purely files generated by init scripts 2. rpm in combination with pkg-config will add requires to your package if it has a .pc file that requires other pkg-config files. For this all packages that have .pc files need to buildrequire pkg-config, or it will break on either side. The change is trivial to do, so anyone can fix the build failure as it pops up. Dear all, I have a question. I would like to to build extra modules that aren't build by OBS for the original distro. To be more specific. I'm building the qemu for openmoko to make this work in need for instance the usb gadget. Hello Mates, i've just try to build calibre (Book Reader) who is written in python. Normally i use for building; %build env CFLAGS="%{optflags}" %__python setup.py build %install %__python setup.py install --prefix=%{_prefix} --root=%{buildroot} -- record-rpm=INSTALLED_FILES But now it looks that osc doesn't accept --record-rpm. + exit 0 Executing(%install): /bin/sh -e /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.6dAq76 + umask 022 + cd /usr/src/packages/BUILD + cd calibre + /usr/bin/python setup.py install --prefix=/usr -- root=/usr/src/packages/BUILDROOT/calibre-0.6.48-1.x86_64 --record- rpm=INSTALLED_FILES Usage: python setup.py install [options] Install calibre to your system. By default, calibre is installed to <prefix>/bin, <prefix>/lib/calibre, <prefix>/share/calibre. These can all be controlled via options. The default <prefix> is the prefix of your python installation. The .desktop, .mime and icon files are installed using XDG. [opensuse-packaging] Need help from somebody familiar with gtkmm2

Hi, I'm trying to fix the factory build of multimedia:apps seq24 which I branched in home:plater seq24. It builds correctly against a linked 11.2 gtkmm2 but fails with the factory one on :- mainwnd.cpp: In member function 'void mainwnd::file_import_dialog()': mainwnd.cpp:598:49: error: invalid conversion from 'Gtk::ButtonBox*' to 'Gtk::HButtonBox*' >From this I come to the conclusion that the factory version of gtkmm2 has changed. Does anyone have any idea what change in gtk2mm could have caused this? Servus Thomas, ich hatte jetzt mal einen Submit Request geschickt. Einmal ist dort nun die neue Version drin (baut durch). Und eine kleine Änderung im Spec. Das was mich momentan noch zur Verzweiflung bringt, sind die locales. %find_lang findet sie nicht, weil sie wohl nicht im Standard Verzeichnis sind. Unstipped binary or object versuchte ich zu lösen, durch ein manuelle Strip Da muss man vielleicht noch etwas experimentieren. [opensuse-packaging] OBS binary server currently down

JFYI, our build service backend server, which hosts all binaries is currently down due to a failure in the NAS system. fscheck is running and the binary server will hopefully run again in about 30minutes again. However, the schedulers will need to do a cold start, this means they will not schedule new jobs in the next ~ 4 hours. Source submissions are not affected by this. Hi all I am preparing package "cronie v 1.4.4" in System:Base repo, this package should replace old "cron 4.4" package. Basically it's the same package. Hi, I've a strange expansion error in multimedia:apps wavemon, it can't find build-mkbaselibs. An osc search build-mkbaselibs --binary search indicates that it's in openSUSE:tools for every supported rpm based distro except openSUSE. Where is the package the build is looking for? multimedia:apps is building against snapshot and the checked in branch builds successfully against standard. Hi, I'm updating multimedia:apps solfege and the new version produces a lot of .pyc files on make install which contain text which refers to the path that the file was installed in :- /usr/src/packages/BUILDROOT/solfege-3.16.1-1.x86_64//usr/share/solfege/solfege/ This causes lot's of rpmlint errors ie. ;- solfege.x86_64: E: file-contains-buildroot (Badness: 10000) /usr/share/solfege/solfege/cfg.pyc I understand these files to be compiled python but being a complete novice with python I don't know what to do with them. Can someone assist me to compile this package please. 1. I think Ive got to install wfnetobjs rpm but dont know to set that in the spec file. 2. Hi, I created a sr of server:monitoring/nagios-ndoutils for Factory. But this would only be accepted with correct naming. Hence I copied nagios-ndoutils to ndoutils. (No Source changes) Build for nagios-ndoutils is disabled, binaries are wiped. All packagers that have a link/branch to server:monitoring/nagios-ndoutils should change it to server:monitoring/ndoutils immediatly. nagios-ndoutils will be removed on Friday. Hi, Milestone 4 is out and Milestone 5 is going to be released next week. But there is a catch: Germany (and a lot of the western world) has holidays either friday or monday (or both in the case of Germany). So while I moved the release data of Milestone 5 to friday next week, this only means we will still take a couple of packages on april, 6th - but the big majority of packages needs to be submitted by tomorrow. With 274 diffs in devel projects, that is a lot to submit. So please take care not to miss the deadline. Note that M5 will bring a new Xorg and a new kernel - and a lot of people have vacation around the holidays, so if you don't make it, there won't be time for extra hand holding. And for those that keep wondering about milestones: Milestone 5 is the last release before we head into feature freeze. After it I only allow leaf packages to be updated - including a text freeze for all of it. Milestone 6 is then the first "Beta" - i.e. a milestone after feature freeze, so Milestone 5 will traditionally be the worst, please don't make it even worse. With '%find_lang %{name}' macro I got the second one. In %files section I can use only one list, '%files -f INSTALLED_FILES' or '%files -f %{name}.lang'. [opensuse-packaging] libpng-devel is missing from factory standard!

I don't know if it was intentional but libpng-devel is no longer provided in factory. There is libpng14-compat-devel from the libpng14 package and from the libpng12 package : libpng12-compat-devel and libpng12-devel. I'm not really sure what's going on but I do know that the lack of libpng-devel is causing a major blockage in some major packages ie. libqt4, cairo and cups to name the ones that are blocking packages I'm trying to fix but I think a large portion of packages depend on them. Maybe libpng12-devel should provide libpng-devel but libpng12.so.0 also seems to be missing. Can somebody with a bit more experience in this have a look, when I investigated yesterday I could have sworn that I saw libpng14-compat-devel in at least one of the above packages spec files so maybe the problem's already being worked on. Hi, I've come across an rpmlint error which I don't understand :- snd.x86_64: W: executable-stack /usr/bin/snd The binary declares the stack as executable. Executable stack is usually an error as it is only needed if the code contains GCC trampolines or similar constructs which uses code on the stack. One common source for needlessly executable stack cases are object files built from assembler files which don't define a proper .note.GNU-stack section. This is from multimedia:apps snd, I've just updated to the latest version, the old one was failing in factory build. Hi, I am attempting to package mongoDb and have some questions. The source tarball has an rpm directory with a spec file (mongo.spec). I created my own spec file that contains some minor changes w.r.t. naming but other than that is pretty much the same as the .spec file supplied by the project. Was this the right thing to do or is there a better way? I left the rpm directory including the spec file in the tarball (which I re-packed) and when building the project (https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=mongoDB&project=home%3Arjsc…) OBS is running into a conflict between the spec file of the project and the one I created. This ties into the previous question I guess, but I'll ask anyway. Should I just get rid of the original spec file, or rename it, or should I get rid of my spec file? But then I think I need a spec file to get things going, just uploading a tarball is not useful. I linked js from the OSSP project. Initially I had an expansion error w.r.t. the missing js-devel package. Thus I take it if I wanted mongoDB in the distribution I'd also have to get the developers of the OSSP project to submit the js package to the distribution, correct? Help is appreciated. Hi, I've found a few more strange factory rpmlint warnings :- rosegarden4.src: W: source-or-patch-not-compressed bz2 rosegarden-10.02-desktop.patch rosegarden4.src: W: source-or-patch-not-compressed bz2 rosegarden-10.02-rpmoptflags.patch rosegarden4.src: W: source-or-patch-not-compressed bz2 rosegarden-10.02-filepaths.patch rosegarden4.src: W: source-or-patch-not-compressed bz2 rosegarden-10.02-plugin-lib64path.patch A source archive or file in your package is not compressed using the bz2 compression method (doesn't have the bz2 extension). rosegarden4.x86_64: W: invalid-url DistURL obs://build.opensuse.org/multimedia:apps/openSUSE_Factory/a92ee5cade35ab948… rosegarden4.src: W: invalid-url DistURL obs://build.opensuse.org/multimedia:apps/openSUSE_Factory/a92ee5cade35ab948… The value should be a valid, public HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP URL. snd.x86_64: W: manpage-not-compressed bz2 /usr/share/man/man1/snd.1.gz This manual page is not compressed with the bz2 compression method (does not have the bz2 extension). If the compression does not happen automatically when the package is rebuilt, make sure that you have the appropriate rpm helper and/or config packages for your target distribution installed and try rebuilding again; if it still does not happen automatically, you can compress this file in the %install section of the spec file. I get these warnings in multimedia:apps rosegarden4 and snd (snd doesn't have patches), the biggest rosegarden4 patch is a massive 1114 bytes large and the smallest is 716 bytes large. I haven't tried it but 716 bytes might even be larger if compressed. The man page for snd is compressed by rpm and I wasn't aware that bz2 compression was available for man pages. Hi, with new rpmlint, I started getting some new warnings, some of them are quite weird IMO: -------- 1) prereq is deprecated: PreReq: info This comes from PreReq: %install_info_prereq , which is suggested by packaging conventions. [1] Does the warning mean that the PreReq: could be safely replaced with Requires: ? [2] If so, the packaging conventions should be updated to reflect this. -------- 2) W: source-or-patch-not-compressed bz2 parted-mac.patch I really doubt it makes any sense to compress most of the patches. I think this warning should be disabled (or at least applied only if the patch is bigger than some treshold). -------- 3) W: manpage-not-compressed bz2 /usr/share/man/man8/parted.8.gz W: infopage-not-compressed bz2 /usr/share/info/parted.info.gz These two are really funny especially given it is some RPM/build magic that (AFAIK) does the compression - apparently using gzip. Hi listmates! I got a branch of python-django at home:aledr:branches and updated it to 1.2-beta-1. I've also done some other changes: - Moved autocomplete file from /etc/profile.d to /etc/bash_completion.d (can we remove Django-1.2-completion-only-for-bash.patch?); - Spec file cleaned with spec-cleaner; - Using INSTALLED_FILES instead of declaring files; - And some minor changes declared in the changes file. Please, comment on this, and If there are no objections I shall send a sr as soon as 1.2 get a stable release on the road. [opensuse-packaging] No libpng-devel in factory is causing a serious blockage.

Hi, could somebody with maintainer rights for libpng provide libpng-devel for factory, it's blocking gtk, cairo and libqt4 and preventing me from working on updating multimedia:apps and libs packages. The expansion errors I'm getting are:- nothing provides libpng12.so.0 needed by gtk2, nothing provides libpng12.so.0(PNG12_0) needed by gtk2, nothing provides libpng12.so.0 needed by cairo, nothing provides libpng12.so.0(PNG12_0) needed by cairo, nothing provides libpng-devel needed by cairo-devel, nothing provides libpng12.so.0 needed by cups-libs, nothing provides libpng12.so.0(PNG12_0) needed by cups-libs and expansion error: nothing provides libpng-devel needed by libqt4-devel, nothing provides libpng12.so.0()(64bit) needed by libqt4-x11, nothing provides libpng12.so.0(PNG12_0)(64bit) needed by libqt4-x11 Maybe I'm diagnosing this wrong.
