[opensuse-autoinstall] autoyast 11.2 keyboard, firewall and /etc/sysconfig problems

Hello, I can't figure out where i can select the keyboard that i want to use. I think i looked everywhere but apparently not since i still haven't found it. My next problem is probably not too important but it confused me. In the autoyast i disabled the firewall and when the install stops and shows the settings, it says the firewall is up and that ssh will be blocked (or something similar). However when the system is installed the firewall is disabled in yast2. Last problem is when i go in the sysconfig section of autoyast. For example i select kde4 and save the configuration file, quit autoyast, restart autoyast and reload the configuration file and nothing shows up in that section. There's no items anymore in the left side. [opensuse-autoinstall] Migration 11.1 to 11.2 - how to migrate autoyast.xml and KDE

Hello, I doing some tests for preparing a migraton from openSUSE 11.1 to 11.2. One of the main problems is, that in 11.2 "KDE 3" isn't available any more. My autoyast.xml contains some applications like "kde3_basis" for example, that doesn't exist any more. Is there a way to migrate this xml-file in a way that i get a *exact* autoyast.xml with all the KDE4 applications I had installed as before with KDE3? Another problem is that with "KDE 4" all the KDE3-user settings in /home and files, links etc. on the desktop are ignored. So I have to do a complete desktop migration from "KDE 3" to "KDE 4" (or Dolphin?) for each user. Has someone experience with this or a good howto? Thanks! [opensuse-autoinstall] What-If ?

Is there any way to do a 'what-if' run of autoyast to generate a list of what RPM's would be installed from a given autoyast.xml file? A "dry run", if you will, on a running system - in a scripted environment, though - not requiring a human running a GUI/Curses interface. I am also interested in differences in resolution models. I had a string of patches to be installed on a SLED11 box that required resolution if applied with yast or packagekit with an online update - for example, a conflict on kernel-syms as it tried to update ... yet zypper cheerfully resolved the whole thing. I can't work out if zypper is more stupid and just does things without realizing it should have seen a conflict, or smarter because it looked at what it would have in the end and realized it's all OK ? [opensuse-autoinstall] AutoInstall problems on Dell optiplex 740 & 760

Actually seen with SLED11, but I'm shooting for a wider view on the offchance that anyone is seeing this behavior in the open space too. Problem 1. The 740 It seems we have different vintages of 740. Some of the older machines have an irritating problem with a panic... http://lists4.opensuse.org/opensuse-bugs/2009-05/msg04704.html ... which we got past, but now I seem to have an issue where some of them go through to the first boot, then come up and land at the grub> prompt. Grub can correctly identify HD(0,0) or HD(0,1) (yes, I trued moving swap & root partitions around) as being a filesystem. We watched it install... but find seems to find nothing. rebooting the system into the installer with a startshell=1, I can mount the disk in question and everything appears to be where it should be... the menu.lst looks identical to machines that work. We even tried taking memory out in case memory size was a contributor. Now, I'm not necessarily looking for a magic answer here (though I'd take one if offered). I'm looking for any ideas on how to work out what's happening. Grub isn't terribly diagnostically helpful. Problem 2. The 760 I'd installed on a 760 a number of times (testing builds) when suddenly it gakked in the partitioning section. No obvious reason why - rebooting it cleared the error. <odd>. Then it did it again. Now it's consistent. I don't know why it changed - the behavior sometimes changed with a power cycle. The 760 doesn't have a floppy - rather, it has a 4-card reader that handles SD, CF cards etc. These devices are presented as SCSI disks (albeit with no media in them). What is happening, however, is that while a manual install happily sets up /dev/sda* devices, I clone the build, try to do an autoyast and it fails. Why? Because it has now decided that the card unit "comes first", so the disk is being presented as /dev/sde with /dev/sda,b,c & d being the accursed card readers. If I change the autoyast to use /dev/sde, it cheerfully partitions, installs, then reboots and hits the wall because - yes, you guessed it. The hard drive is now presenting as /dev/sda. I can edit /etc/fstab and change it to /dev/sda, reboot, and now it continues happily. BIOS is current on this box too. I've tried fiddling with the devices in the BIOS to no avail. I'm sure that removing the card readers would fix the problem, but that's loosely like cutting off ones head to cure a headache. I've googled and binged and burned more time than I care to admit on these two... in my dreams this is going to be simple and I'll just feel stupid. That's fine, I can live with that... Hello List, I hope I can ask my question about ayast_setup here ..... I found this littel sweet looking tool on Uwe Gansert hp at suse.de ... Now I have some questions: 1. Can the filename argument be are URL too ? 2. What if I just bring eg. a packetlist into the XML file - would it leave the rest of the installation untouched ? - Would it install all missing packages and delete all packages which are not in the XML file but at the System ? 3. [opensuse-autoinstall] Problems with rules in openSUSE 11.2 (milestone7)

Hello, I tried to install openSUSE 11.2 (milestone7) via autoyast for testing purpose. I am using the rules feature to create a profile dynamically. I have no problems within former openSUSE releases. But in openSUSE 11.2 it fails. 'xsltproc' is missing here (for merging the profiles) ! Is this problem already known? autoyast is not working yet. Is there a bugfix available or even a workaround to solve this problem? This will be great. At the moment I can not test autoinstallation in release 11.2. Regards, Werner Hack --

I have an autoYast xml file with the following section as part of my overall partition plan <partition> <create config:type="boolean">false</create> <crypt_fs config:type="boolean">false</crypt_fs> <filesystem config:type="symbol">ext3</filesystem> <format config:type="boolean">true</format> <loop_fs config:type="boolean">false</loop_fs> <lv_name>lv51root</lv_name> <mount>/</mount> <mountby config:type="symbol">device</mountby> <partition_id config:type="integer">131</partition_id> <resize config:type="boolean">false</resize> </partition> The disk is formatted as part of the install but not with the ext3 filesystem as I defined in the above section, but rather with the default filesystem for that particular openSUSE version. It gives Reiserfs with 11.1 and Ext4 with 11.2. From several examples found on the net I can not find what I'm doing wrong here. [opensuse-autoinstall] Merging Patterns in openSUSE 11.2 ?

Hi all, I'm adding two profiles in rules.xml. Both contain <patterns>, <packages> and <remove-packages> entries. When merging the two xml files manually according to Uwe Gansert's blog with /usr/bin/xsltproc --novalid --param replace "'false'" \ --param dontmerge1 "'package'" \ --param with "'server.xml'" --output out.xml \ /usr/share/autoinstall/xslt/merge.xslt COMMON.xml then out.xml contains all patterns and packages added from both profiles. Everything is as expected. Within autoinstallation only the <packages> and <remove-packages> are merged in the right way. <patterns> merging fails. Patterns added from the second profile are totally ignored. I'm adding the second profile as: <rule> ... <result> <profile>classes/software/server.xml</profile> <continue config:type="boolean">true</continue> <dont_merge config:type="list"> <element>package</element> </dont_merge> </result> </rule> as described in http://www.suse.de/~ug/autoyast_doc/merging.html But the patterns are not merged. Only packages. In y2log I see the same 'xsltproc' command as written above. Am I doing something wrong? Why does it only work if processed manually? Any ideas?
