Hi, I want to register the hostname of the newly installed system to the dns server. Which options do I have to configure in the autoyast sections? [opensuse-autoinstall] Remastering

I have an autoyast-based installation that will soon be going over 4.7GB. What is the easiest way to remaster it into multiple CDs/DVDs? It's SLE-based. Is there a tool to automatically split repos/create the catalogs? Greetings, we have a lot of CIDR networks. For our /16 and /24 networks, we have no problem at all with <network> or <hostadress> matches, but how does that work for CIDR addresses? [opensuse-autoinstall] Paritioning problems with parted / autoyast

Hello again, I have some problems with the partitioning system again (OpenSuse 11.3), maybe because I changed the filesystem sizes in my config for autoyast. Using my config on a existing system with the same patition sizes everything worked fine. After changing the sizes, I could not install the system any more. So I put a little (very basic) wipe-out script in my config, like this: <scripts> <pre-scripts config:type="list"> <script> <filename>wipe-sda.sh</filename> <interpreter>shell</interpreter> <location>http://192.168.0.101/autoyast/scripts/wipe-sda.sh</location> <source> <![CDATA[ #!/bin/bash dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda ]]> </source> </script> </pre-scripts> </scripts> It takes a lot of time, but at the end the whole drive is erased. Now autoyast has problems creating the new partitions: Systemcodeerror: -1013 /usr/bin/parted -s '/dev/sda' mklabel msdos /usr/bin/parted libblkid.so.1 version `BLKID_2.17` not found (required by /usr/lib/libparted.so.0) Should I better create the partitions with a pre-script? ** Maybe some has a nice "wipe-out" and partition-creation script here on this list for me? I'm not a genius with scripting ;-) ** By the way: I also noticed that when booting & installing via tftpd my USB-keyboard and mouse are comletely "frozen". Booting from DVD and passing the autoyast.xml location etc. at the console works fine... [opensuse-autoinstall] start offset on partition table / performance issues on vmware and raid systems

Hi, we are using sles11 in a vmware (esxi) enviornment and on Dell R510 Raid 5 devices. I've read there are performance issues due to a unsatisfying partition layout on the operating system which doesn't fit to the unterlying partition layout from the hardware/disks. Instead of one read request the underlying devices have to make two because the blocks are shifted and are not suit on eachother. i.e. - a report from netapp http://media.netapp.com/documents/tr_3593.pdf Is there any way to insert a start offset in the partition layout in the rules.xml file - or are there any other suggestions regarding this problem? [opensuse-autoinstall] Persistent enumeration of net devices

Hi My customer has run into what seems to be a general problem regarding the network interface names. They want to create an autoyast-based install of SLES11 on 100+ HP DL380 and DL360 machines, which are all equipped with an extra interface card. However Linux maps the logical interfaces depending on which of the internal or the extra card that answer first during the installation. This mapping can also differ from one OS installation to the next on the same box. We somehow need to ensure persistent mapping of device names to real physical ports. Trying to work around this they have developed as script that will be run after the SLESinstallation. The script will replace the /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules file with new rules that * Splits the name space of eth into "drivername" with individual enumeration, for each driver. * Uses busid instead of MAC to facilitate easy swap of broken cards. Also pci bus-id naming seems to follow the physical port assignment on the ports, which MAC address does not. However there must (hopefully) be an easier way of achieving this.. Despite searching high and low we have had no success in finding out how to switch to bus-id instead of MAC and to adapt the naming in /lib/udev/write_net_rules. How to do using yast2 is well described, but autoyast or adapting the generator scripts is very unclear. Most information talks about changing the rule-file itself, but not the scripts that generate it. Any information on how to do this would be most helpful. Thank you. Hello, I would like to make a custom rule that can differentiate between a kde and gnome installation. What is possible around setting a variable somehow that can then be used for this selection between the 2 display managers. I'm using a linuxrc info file to start the whole installation process, would it be possible to do something in here that can be used within the rules file to detect whether to install gnome or kde. Hello all, I'm testing a new autoyast.xml for OpenSUSE 11.3 and at the end of stage1 of the installation I'm getting this error: GNU GRUB version 0.97 (640K lower / 3072K upper memory) [ Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible completions of a device/filename.] grub> setup --stage2=/boot/grub/stage2 --force-lba (hd0) (hd0,4) Error 21: Selected disk does not exist grub> quit This is quite strange, because all partitions were created successfully without any complains, but grub seems unable to install in der MBR. I found that in the grub "disk order settings" "/dev/sda" is defined - this doesn't seem to work anny more in 11.3? Changing to "/dev/disk/by-id/ata-XXX" by hand solved that, but breaks the complete auto installation process - is there another solution?
