linuxrc - netdevice=<hwaddress>

Does anyone know if any of the SLES releases 9 or 10 support passing the linuxrc option netdevice=<hardware mac address> ? I noticed Red Hat has had this for sometime and it seems totally missing in SuSE which seems really odd. I'm still scratching my head if we really are still passing only by kernel interface name. I read in the change log for linuxrc-1.8.6-3 a change that "sounds" like this feature. * Mon Mar 14 2005 - snwint(a)suse.de - s390: fix segfault in net_list_s390_devs() - extra root image was sometimes not used - allow netdevices to be specified by hwaddress But it looks like linuxrc-1.8.6-3 is only available in SuSE Professional 9.3. "any" commentary would be sincerely appreciated the feature also seems to be fairly minor since any delimiter seperating the octets in the hwaddr string could be used to identify the difference between an interface name and interface hw address if i could figure out a generic method of overriding the linuxrc with a custom script and daisy chain it back into linuxrc after setting up the interface name, I would.. and have a slight idea on how to do that.. but i'd rather find out i'm just missing something and the feature is already there Thanks!

Hello list, I'm having difficulties enabling systemd services in openSUSE 12.2 from the autoyast file. Our current way doesn't work anymore: <runlevel> <default>3</default> <services config:type="list"> <service> <service_name>rpcbind</service_name> <service_status>enable</service_status> </service> </services> </runlevel> At least not for rpcbind. My workaround currently is to use a post-script to do a "systemctl enable rpcbind.service". -- Kind regards. [opensuse-autoinstall] autoyast with multiple LVM Volume Groups

Hello, I'm trying to have autoyast setup some LVM volume groups. I can get things setup with a single volume group, but if try to add 2 volume groups I seem to be running into some issue. I'm using the following xml inside the partitioning section to setup the PVs and add to the volume groups. . . . <drive> <device>/dev/sdb</device> <partitions config:type="list"> <partition> <lvm_group>firstvg</lvm_group> <partition_type>primary</partition_type> <size>max</size> </partition> </partitions> <use>all</use> </drive> <drive> <device>/dev/sdc</device> <partitions config:type="list"> <partition> <lvm_group>secondvg</lvm_group> <partition_type>primary</partition_type> <size>max</size> </partition> </partitions> <use>all</use> </drive> . . . The problem is that both disks are configured as PVs in the same VG. Both sdb and sdc will be added to firstvg and secondvg will not exist. Hey everyone, another simple Autoyast question: Can I somehow specify a RIS (http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Standards_Repository_Index_Service) URL, so that YaST gets all repositories from a RIS repoindex.xml file? I tried to add is as an add_on product: <add_on_products config:type="list"> <listentry> <media_url>nfs://<server>/ha/export/install/linux/opensuse/11.4/ris/base</media_url> <product>OpenSUSE11.4</product> <product_dir>/</product_dir> <name>AutoYaST_LNT_RIS</name> </listentry> ... Hello all, after setting up a 12.2 machine, I wanted to clone some of its settings for autoinstallation. But the "Autoinstallation" module from Yast keeps crashing when I click "Save as" or "View Source" when I clone my LDAP settings for example (with other settings as well, but not everything). I get the error message: ----------- YaST got signal 11 at YCP file Partitions.ycp:126 /sbin/yast2: line 427: 1358 Segmentation fault $ybindir/y2base $module "$@" "$SELECTED_GUI" $Y2_GEOMETRY $Y2UI_ARGS ----------- Anyone else having this problem? Hello, I just noticed that when installing 12.2 with AutoYaST, KDM does not come up as my displaymanager, whereas it does when doing a manual installation. When I look at /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager in the installed system, the DISPLAYMANAGER variable is empty... What package/pattern do I need to install, such that the machine runs KDM by default? Here is the simple way I found : * put Virtualbox virtual network card in : NAT * setup a ftp serveur on the host * use argument : install=http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/12.1/repo/oss/ autoyast=ftp://IP/autoyast.xml IP is the "real" "private" host one, not the virtual one, not the public one. With autoyast, in the xml file I put the grub arguments : kernel : /boot/vmlinuz initrd : /boot/initrd root : (hd0,0) However, during installation I can see that /boot is empty ! And grub install fails ("An error occurred during initrd creation"). What are the correct arguments ? Hi, Is there an autoyast tag to add a sudoers line to /etc/ldap.conf file? [opensuse-autoinstall] schema fixes for <files>

The autoyast schema currently lacks the file_location element and thus my profile fails to validate (despite working properly). I've fixed this in my "simple_files_fix" branch on github[1]. I've also made a "files_cleanup" branch that enforces what I think autoyast expects (open to correction, of course): * there should only be file_content or file_location, not both * file_path should be mandatory * everything else (file_owner, file_permissions, file_script) is optional but should only occur once per file * all of the file_* elements can occur in any order within the <file> tag Which brings me to a point of confusion: my profile, which I based on a previous version of the AutoYaST documentation, uses <file> rather than <config_file>, e.g.: <files config:type="list"> <file> <file_location>http://blah.blah/foo</file_location> <file_path>/foo/bar</file_path> </file> ... </files> However, the current documentation[2] uses <config_file> instead of <file>. My profile works correctly in both SLES 11 SP1 & SP2 and openSUSE 12.1, and the schema expects <file>, so this appears correct, but I hesitate to call the documentation wrong without further input. Whichever way is correct, everything should be reconciled. BTW, it's great that YaST on github now -- it makes fixes like this a lot easier! Uwe (or others), please let me know how you wish to proceed, and I'll file a github pull request and/or a BugZilla entry. Hello, I wan't to install opensuse 11.4 with an USB Stick as the installation source. But how do I tell the system where the source is? I tried it with install=hd:// install=usb:// install=/dev/sdc1, with 2 Slashes, 3 slashes, on slash....nothing seems to work. Hey there, I just started testing 12.2RC2 and noticed to following. There are multiple custom user scripts in my XML file, all of which get pulled from an NFS server. Now, all scripts were transferred successfully to the installation system under /var/adm/autoinstall/scripts, EXCEPT the init script! The Init script is mention like this in my XML: -------- <init-scripts config:type="list"> <script> <filename>init0000_final_installation.sh</filename> <location><![CDATA[nfs://<server>/<path>/init0000_final_installation.sh]]></location> </script> </init-scripts> -------- All other scripts come from the same NFS server, same path, different filename (of course) and work nicely.
