[opensuse-autoinstall] keyboard not set correctly when installing from autoyast

Hello, I selected the keyboard i want in the autoyast2 gui and when i do the install the keyboard i selected is working on a terminal window (Ctrl-F2 for example) but not at the login screen, gnome, kde3 or kde4 where i get a US keyboard instead. Here's what i think the relevant section of the autoyast file looks like: <keyboard> <keyboard_values> <capslock config:type="boolean">false</capslock> <delay></delay> <discaps config:type="boolean">false</discaps> <numlock></numlock> <rate></rate> <scrlock config:type="boolean">false</scrlock> <tty>tty1 tty2 tty3 tty4 tty5 tty6 tty8 tty9 tty10 tty11 tty12 tty13 tty14 tty15 tty16 tty17 tty18 tty19 tty20</tty> </keyboard_values> <keymap>french-ca</keymap> </keyboard> I have a machine i installed manually from DVD and the keyboard works fine on this one and when i look in the yast -> keyboard layout on both machine it displays the same: Canada - basic. Both machines are identical and share KVM. I also reinstalled the machine that didn't have the right keyboard manually from DVD and as expected the keyboard is ok. I execute a number of post-install scripts in an AutoYast setup. [opensuse-autoinstall] How to assign *root* shell (= /bin/tcsh) in AutoYast-profile?

I've created an Opensuse11 AutoYast profile. I've assigned the "root" user's shell to "/bin/tcsh". The generated AutoYast source is: <users config:type="list"> <user> <username>root</username> <encrypted config:type="boolean">true</encrypted> <password_settings> <inact>-1</inact> <max>-1</max> <min>-1</min> <warn>-1</warn> </password_settings> <user_password>$2a...$O</user_password> </user> </users> <user_defaults> <expire></expire> <group>25</group> <groups>video,dialout</groups> <home>/home</home> <inactive>-1</inactive> <shell>/bin/tcsh</shell> <skel>/etc/skel</skel> </user_defaults> The AutoYast install works, and I can boot from the resulting system. But, "root" comes up in /bin/bash shell. I can easily "chsh -s /bin/tcsh" @ shell; next reboot all's OK. How can I make sure the AutoYast-installed system correctly assigns root-shell to /bin/tcsh? [opensuse-autoinstall] Reusing fstab data using partitioning_advanced

I'm using the partitioning_advanced feature: http://www.suse.com/~ug/autoyast_doc/CreateProfile.Partitioning.html#id2552… to upgrade a collection of boxes to SLES10SP2 while keeping some of the filesystems intact. Two problems: 1) I have to add the two swap partitions on each system by hand after the install is complete. I can't find any syntax which would allow me to list the two partitions in the autoyast file, and they aren't picked up automatically by partitioning_advanced. 2) The new /etc/fstab uses "/dev/disk/by-id" names rather than simple device names like "/dev/sda1", even though I am using e.g: <partition> <format config:type="boolean">true</format> <mountby config:type="symbol">device</mountby> <mount>/var</mount> </partition> I think that (2) might be a known bug, although the following: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=364793#c1 suggests that it should have been fixed in SP2. [opensuse-autoinstall] opensuse 11 Failed to add add-on product

Hello, I'm having trouble creating my autoyast configuration file. So far when i don't add any repositories and select some software i get an autoyast that works correctly. But when i add some repositories i get the error message: Failed to add add-on product For each of the repositories i have (it seems, i haven't counted exactly).. I'm also not sure about how the software selection works. It seems to have all the software available from the repositories that are set on the machine, not the ones setup in the autoyast tool. I select some packages that aren't on the DVD and when the installation starts i get messages saying a bunch of stuff isn't found. That's what i thought adding repos was for but that doesn't seem to work. If i manage to create an xml file with the list of packages i want, is there a tool that would allow me to download everything so i can setup a local repository and avoid downloading that from the Internet each time. Hello, I have SLES 10 SP2 media in a partition on a hard drive, and an add-on product in a separate folder in the same partition. I have created an add_on_product file and placed it in the folder where I have SLES 10 media. Here is the content of the add_on_products file: hd://sda2/myproduct When I try to install SLES and the add-on product from the drive, autoyast fails to locate the RPMS in the add-on product. Also, I have tried adding the following in the autoyast profile (autoinst.xml). In this case, it fails to locate/configure add-on product. <add-on> <add_on_products config:type="list"> <listentry> <media_url>hd://sda2/myproduct</media_url> <product>myproduct</product> <product_dir>/</product_dir> </listentry> </add_on_products> </add-on> Is installing SLES 10 SP2 with an add-on from hard drive broken or I doing something silly? [opensuse-autoinstall] Where is initrd and linux kernel for 64 bit PXE

For PXE installation for 32 bit, you get the initrd and the kernel (linux) from *boot/i386/loader/initrd* and *boot/i386/loader/linux*. Then you copy those file to the root of the tftp server and you specify in the default file: kernel linux and initrd=initrd. If you use more than 1 menu labels then it is best to rename those files to linux-sles10sp1-i32 and initrd-sles10sp1-i32. I have problem to specify the initrd and the kernel for 64 bits. I cannot find those file anywhere on the 64 bits DVD. *Where are those files situated?* or what else do I have to do? Hello, I'm trying to install opensuse 11 booting from a DVD but selecting an ISO DVD on an NFS server. I tried creating an autoyast configuration file but i was having all sorts of problems with software selection and repositories at install time so i went back to a simple semi-manual NFS install to try and troubleshoot the problem. I can start the installation, select a kde3 desktop, set up the other options and install the software and then it reboots to complete the installation. At the moment i keep it to bare minimum so i didn't try to setup NIS and many other things. After the reboot it seems like it can no longer find the NFS source even after many retries. I tried doing the installation with DHCP and with a static address and i get the same result in both cases. When i go to Ctrl-F2 console i can do an ifconfig and see that the machine has an IP address but it doesn't seem to be able to ping anything on the network which would explain why it can't connect to the NFS server. I tried an "ifconfig eth0 up" and then pings start working and i can dig as well. After that when i hit retry it seems to proceed correctly. When i type in the NFS source i use the IP address of the machine to avoid possible DNS problems. I'm out of ideas on what to try out next. [opensuse-autoinstall] TR: opensuse 11 autoyast no IP address after reboot (and other autoyast questions)

Hello, We have an autoyast file we created and when we boot with the DVD and type in the appropriate NFS paths to it and the installation source (NFS as well) the system installs and then reboots before doing some other tasks. However after that reboot the machine doesnt get an IP address and we have to stop installation there. We know the dhcp server is working, otherwise it wouldnt proceed to install in the first place. At first our autoyast didnt have a network configured but even after we added one it does the same. Any hints on what could be wrong? Were also having problem with the NIS authentication and root password. After starting the autoyast we make it stop at the configuration screen and it shows that root password isnt set and the authentication doesnt seem to be NIS. We configured those with yast but it just doesnt seem to be used. I read that in opensuse 10.3 we could make a manual installation and ask it to create an autoyast file, is it still possible to do that with opensuse 11? I didnt find the option anywhere and most searches I do return results for 10.3. Should i include the autoyast configuration file in here? I tried in my previous message but it got rejected.
