Hello, In the firewall section of my autoyast config file, I'd like to replace the hardware specific lines below to something more generic. Any idea what I should specify to make it work on different hardware? I couldn't find anything about the firewall section in the documentation. [opensuse-autoinstall] Dell 2950 and autoyast

I am autoyasting a Dell 2950 and its ethernet driver is bnx2. I tried using insmod, but I get the flakiest behavior when autoyasting using "info" or the "autoyast" directive at linuxrc. The server will activate, then deactivate it. Sometimes it grabs the profile, then sometimes it does not. Is this more indicative of a network issue or a network driver not loading properly? All, How are the files /etc/permissions.* used by autoyast? It seems that as soon as the chkstat package is installed, the permissions are changed on some files and it's not performed in any post-install process. The documentation in the autoyast homepage doesn't seem to mention what the "permissions_security" XML tag does or the options it can have apart from a comment which says "see the reference for the meaning and the possible values of the settings in the following example". (http://www.suse.com/~ug/autoyast_doc/CreateProfile.Security.html ) The documentation for autoyast at http://www.suse.com/~ug/autoyast_doc/index.html says that the latest documentation can be found at http://yast2.suse.com/autoinstall/ This link redirects to http://forge.novell.com/modules/xfmod/project/?yast which in turn points to http://developer.novell.com/wiki/index.php/YaST The main link on that page under documentation points to http://developer.novell.com/wiki/index.php/YaST which is another copy of the orginal link above. So where is the "reference" that the security example refers to? Error: The package resolver run failed. Please check your software section in the autoyast profile. I get this message above when I autoyast these days. My software is as such and I do not know why .... I have even ran it through the yast autoinstallation module. Does it not automatically resolve these issues itself? I choose "yes" Enter the IP address of the HTTP server: 192.168.x.x Use HTTP proxy: No Enter the directory on the server -> I just hit enter because it is what is in the info file it downloaded It loads the installation source from the specified location and then it dies on the package resolver issue .... [opensuse-autoinstall] Custom autoInstall boot CD for multiple distributions (SLES 9 & SLES10)

Is it possible with AutoYast and CD install source to have different options in the isolinux.cfg that will autoinstall DIFFERENT releases. I have a product that installs on top of SLES and supports both SLES 9 and SLES 10. My customer base is mostly hardware maintenance folks not computer users so automation in necessary I'm trying to make my software install using autoinstall with a custom boot CD. I plan to have the "isolinux.cfg" present a list of machine hardware models and SLES version combination for them to select from and the rest be automated. I'm having trouble getting my custom boot CD to boot and start yast and then ask for the CD1 of SLES 9 or SLES 10 depending on which "isolinux.cfg" option was selected. It correctly boots and starts yast with the correct config file but then fails when it reaches "Configure Software Selections" and pops up the "Initializing catalogs" window. The error window contains: Error occurred while creating the catalog. cd:///?devices=/dev/hdc Source rejected by the user Retry Abort I was expecting it to ask for the SLES 9 CD #1 at this point but it does not. I have tried various combinations of options in the "content" files and in the "yast/order" and "yast/instorder" files to no avail. At this point I'm in need of help on how or IF this is even possible. [opensuse-autoinstall] Strategy for cluster install

I'm working on the installation for a new linux cluster. All nodes are identical except for hostname and IP. Today some scripts generate an individual autoinst.xml and pxe config file pointing to the autoinst.xml for each node. These files are the same except for the (static) hostname and IP address. We want to keep static addresses. I can reduce the 2 config files per node to two single files if I have a simple way to assign the correct hostname and static IP address during installation. We have dhcp set up to assign a fixed IP for each node. It looks like during post-install I can access the IP address in the hostname. (the hostname command returns the ip address). I suppose I can set the ip address using yast command line tools (yast lan edit id=0 ip=myip), but there seems to be no way to set the hostname using the command line. Can I just write the hostname into /etc/HOSTNAME ? Is there a good reason I should remain with the individual pxe and autoinstall.xml files per node ?
