PXE install

Not having a bootnet.img like floppy image forces us to use a CDrom image containing the necessary kernel and initrd etc. But, I would like to be able to install many clients through network, so I would like to use a PXE server to serve the initrd and the kernel if possible. The problem is that I am forced to use a PXE server on Windows ;( Does anybody have any suggestion as to how I can configure on this server? Yes, there is a DHCP service running there, as well. Error configuring software base-selection

Hi, I'm trying to do an unattended install, where i put the install files from 8.2 on a nfs-share and the xml-files on a http-server. The installer retrieves the xml-file, but when autoyast tries to configure the software-selections (i just use "default" for now) it put following error-message on the screen: Error Could not set base selection: default Any hints for solving this problem? We spend a lot of time here (accrc.org) installing suse by hand, so it's very exciting to be able to automate the process. And it was a definite pleasure to discover how easy it is to set up an install server.

Install sendmail on SLES8

Hello, I have problems to autoinstall a system with sendmail properly. I specify sendmail in my config, but postfix is always installed in addition to sendmail. So postfix is running and the sendmail installation is broken. To fix it, I have to remove postfix and re-install sendmail. That's not so nice for an automatic installtion :-) Can anybody reproduce that error? I am using SuSE 8.1 I have a small problem.... my modem doesn't work. The specs for my modem are: USB v90 UM9800 U (manufactured by Aztec 56K USB modem) I have been to the SuSE webpage and looked at the supported hardware section. It seems that this modem is supported under SuSE 8.2, but NOT under SuSE 8.1 Now, obviously, because my modem doesn't work I can't use any of this automagic business to upgrade.... but.... I have a windows partition which is connected to the net..... so.... if you would be so kind as to tell me which .rpm's I need to download, that would be well, really useful..... P.S. If you need to know any additional information: kernel versions, gcc versions, binutility versions library versions etc... etc... etc... I can find all of this out for you, but I don't have it handy right this second because I have to log into windows to send this email.... (basically I'm running SuSE 8.1 straight out of the box) P.P.S I would also be curious to know whether or not the support for this modem is binary or source. P.P.P.S If this is the wrong mailing list to be asking this question, could you please tell me which mailing list would be more appropriate.

SuSE 8.2 and NIC

I had SuSE8.0 installed and working fine. I then did a new install on 8.2 and it doesn't activate the eth0 while 8.0 did. The hardware is the same and the eth0 works OK on other distros I have on the same machine. The bootlog shows: Setting up network interfaces lp0 done eth0 failed I attempt to fix through YAST2 but it shows the network interface as if it were OK, showing correct device and settings. How can I diagnose and fix? Thanks Dennis

Strange as it may sound for an "auto" installation program, I'd love to be able to leave out a section (such as partitioning, etc.) and know that if it isn't there, autoyast will ask the user, just like a normal install. I'm trying to make an autoyast xml for literally a hundred different types of hardware, and it's a literal impossiblity because of all the differences. Hi, Had a couple of items I'd like to throw out there as potential wist list features for yast2/autoyast: * Pipe the standard output of the "custom scripts" to the yast gui interface during install. For scripts that can take awhile, this would provide some helpfull feedback on their progress. * Add a dhcp server option to "network services". * Automatic detection and installation of network and sound cards. This would be very helpfull for sites that are doing autoyast installs on large amounts of heterogeneous (sp?) hardware. Thanks, Darby

Bootloader fails to create initrd image

Hi, Is it possible to tell autoyast not to create "initrd" image during installation? I'm trying network install of SLES8 with my own kernel rpm in it. The filesystem used is ext3 and it is built into the kernel image. When Yast configures boot loader, it tries to create initrd image and looks for ext3 and jbd modules - they are not found as they are inbuilt into kernel. And so the mk_initrd fails. Grub is not configured properly. System comes up, but doesn't boot next time. Tried using <initrd_modules config:type="list"/> in the control file, that didn't work. Thanks, Sasi
