info-File and Floppy Drive

Hi, I have a problem with a 7.3 automatic installation. The installation boots from a CD and if there is no floppy-drive connected, the installation will halt in the "Searching for infofile" section. I think, that Yast searches for the info-file on the floppy (first?), but it will find nothing and so it crashes. What's the meaning of the readinfo entry in syslinux.cfg (the value here is 2)? simulated installation with yast2?

meta devices / root on lvm with autoinstall ?

YAST1 autoinstallation off CD

Hi, I've created a CD to auto install SuSE7.3 off CD. This process works fine and installs SuSE correctly. However when I reboot the machine, YAST1 attempts to restart as it says that it didn't complete the last time. This happens just after IP Forwarding has been enabled in the boot process. I've added rc-config values to my info file, could this be a reason? The whole installation seems to work OK, just trying to stop YAST1 always starting during boot!? Thank for the Help Mike

Default Route Not Being Set

I'm not sure that the default route is being set in the following situation: Relevant portion of control file: ... </interfaces> <routing config:type="list" > <route> <destination>default</destination> <device>eth0</device> <gateway>192.168.0.1</gateway> <netmask>0.0.0.0</netmask> </route> </routing> </networking> I'm installing using DHCP to initially identify the host (was having trouble with ip=). The client does not use DHCP once it is installed. My config file specifies <BOOTPROTO>static</BOOTPROTO> for all NICs. I'm guessing that DHCLIENT_SET_DEFAULT_ROUTE="yes" is being left in /etc/sysconfig/network/dhcp due to DHCP being available during initial install, and that is also causing the <route> configuration above to not take. I'm going to use a <file_path>/etc/sysconfig/network/routes</file_path> workaround for now. Please let me know if there are any additional Profile Elements not documented at: http://www.suse.com/~nashif/autoinstall/autoyast2/index.html I like autoinstall/autoyast better than ALICE (which I was just recently trying to learn after a successful history with Solaris Jumpstart). I really appreciate Anas' and anyone else's work in creating this. Thanks! John

hostname and ip number specification

is there another way to specify the hostname and ip number, then using DHCP or the config files? I was thinking of a possibility to specify the hostname and ip number on the bootprompt when AutoYast is about to start. I don't know how many characters can be specified at the boot promp, but it seems a good alternative to the above 2. I hope this is possible and can be made part of AutoYast. The reason I'm asking is; I have no access to our company's DHCP server, and it seems to me that changing the config files for each individual workstation is not "right". -- Richard Bos Democracy cost a fortune

Yast2 change "source of installation"

Hi list, I've installed SuSE8.0 Pro using CDROMs here at the office (The whole office runs linux!!). After installation I copied all the 7 discs onto our fileserver for easy access when updating packages etc. When I now in Yast2 choose "Change source of installation" and point it to the fileserver either via NFS or via mounting the directory and choosing "Harddisk" as installation, I get the following error message; "Could not mount the source medium. mount: filur:/mnt/projects/suse/CD8 failed, reason given by server: No such file or directory" Of course there is no CD8..... At least my dist came with 7 CD's. I've grepped for anything mentioning a CD8 but cannot find anything. I'm beginning to doubt that Yast2 actually can set installation medium after initial installation. Gah! Any ideas or solutions on how to change source of installation. How I miss yast1.... :-/ Oh, and by the way... Yast2 always segfaults when I close it. Don't know if it has anything to do with the above problem but this is what it says; /sbin/yast2: line 149: 27487 Segmentation fault /usr/lib/YaST2/bin/y2base $module "$@" qt -geometry "$Y2_GEOMETRY" -style="$Y2_STYLE" -fn $Y2_XFONT

[Q] creating/using package selections

Dear Listmembers, I would like to do an autoinstall for stand-alone systems without having a network connection using the DVD. Is it possible to use as self-build package selection list for doing this. I'm thinking of giving the the source of the selection similar to the place of the info xml file. Is this possible? Second: how can I generate a package selection without having a system running on exactly the same packages? Yast2 was not that much helpful on this task or wasn't I able to do the right clicks? I'm having a problem with the password section of the autoinst.xml file. That section of my .xml file is: <users config:type="list" > <user> <encrypted config:type="boolean" >false</encrypted> <user_password>123456</user_password> <username>root</username> </user> </users> After installation, I can log in successfully as root with no password. dear, I just buy a new Suse 8.0 workstation. I got a trouble when I want to install it. I choose a Manual Installation option, but it's always running Yast2. My computer can't run Yast2, I'd always use Yast1 to install the Suse O/S. pls somebody help me, how to install my Suse 8.0 with or without use Yast2. best regards, ocky yonathan <ocky(a)linuxkini.com>
