Hi Team, Here's the current state of play with the artwork for 12.3 In short, we made it, just a little late.. Everything in the todo list got completed with a consistent colour and design theme, and that latest version of the branding-openSUSE package was accepted yesterday into the 12.3 branch This was too late for Release Candidate 1, but Release Candidate 2 and 12.3 Final should have our work If any of you want to make further changes, it is *highly unlikely* that I'll be able to get them past the Release Manager (coolo) and far more likely that we'll need to instead provide them as online updates. This shouldn't be a problem for any minor tweaks, but it does mean that it's too late for any major changes. (Major changes at this stage would also be a major problem for the Marketing Team, who are producing articles based on the artwork that will be in RC2) I have to say, after such a turbulent time for this team, the final sprint has been a pleasure to be a part of, and I think sets a good foundation for us to do it better going forward Special thanks for the last minute work by Andy (for his Grub2 design), Marcel (for gfxboot), Victor (for xfce), shumski (for KDM/kdelibs), Michal (for an improved Makefile) and tigerfoot (for everything) - we couldn't have made it without you, and it's thanks to your work at the last minute that 12.3 is going to be released with what I think is a pretty damn good look and feel, considering everything I think for 13.1 I am going to suggest a much earlier deadline for a 'design freeze', after which we can't have major changes to the design, so we have much longer to do the various bits and pieces that actually make the design 'work' in the distribution - and get feedback from our users earlier the last release candidate. [opensuse-artwork] YaST Installer Color Scheme

Hi all. Does anyone of you know how the YaST Installer color scheme is configured? Is it a kwin color scheme or a GTK theme, or something totally different. I am asking, because it would be great if these colors would fit the desktop color scheme we are using right now. [opensuse-artwork] Sticker Work

I reviewed some of the work for stickers and I can only remember a couple of designs that we have tried. The first one is similar to the ones shipped in laptops that says something like "powered by openSUSE" the other one is a circular image that resembles a CD with our logo on it. I am wondering, should we keep these designs, should we try different ones? If for change, please suggest some sticker formats and I could help try creating some designs based on the shapes proposed. [opensuse-artwork] State of 12.3 Branding - A Plea for 13.1

Hi All, As you can see in the published Release timeline for 12.3, the openSUSE Artwork Deadline was Thursday 24th Jan http://turing.suse.de/~coolo/opensuse_12.3/ As of 5PM UTC on Wed 30th Jan (ie almost a week later) the state of our team todo list (on wiki here: https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Artwork_Todo) was as follows: Urgent Tasks: Grub2 - Work not started gfxboot - Work not started YaST - Work not started Removal of application branding - Work not started Plymouth - complete, only polishing required (tittiatcoke) KDM - complete (MM) ksplash - complete (MM) kdelibs - complete (sumski) SUSEgreeter - complete (sumski) Less Urgent: GDM - Done (ilmehtar) GNOME dynamic wallpaper - Done, polishing still required (ilmehtar) Grub, gfxboot and YaST are the first 3 things users to 12.3 will see. In order to avoid the horrifically embarrassing situation of these key parts of 12.3 being released with 12.2's branding still in place, I hurriedly through things together and got them submitted. I'm not happy with how they look, and I'm hoping that we can play on the sympathies of the release team to speedily accept any polishing from me and anyone else over the next few days so 12.3 is not a complete artistic trainwreck. This is my plea for 13.1 to the whole team. Please do not let this happen again. We have this list full of people who are apparently keen to contribute to the artwork and branding of openSUSE, but when the time comes, we never seem to get the goods. Unlike previous releases, I do not think this can be explained as 'we did not know what to do'. A great deal of effort has been put in to explain the current situation, the current requirements, and simple ToDo lists have been put together.. and yet still we find ourselves in this situation. I've heard the complaints that people like me 'monopolise' the process, but even when I step back, do my best to inform what needs to be done and leave it to others to do it, we find ourselves in this situation.. I feel that far too often, openSUSE is relying on hackers like myself, tigerfoot & tittiatcoke to pull things out of the bag at the last minute, and given these people are not artists (nor wish to be) I think we'd all accept than the end result isn't as artistic as we'd like, or as openSUSE deserves. I don't think anyone likes this current situation, so we need the Artwork team producing art that can be used in the functions of the distribution. SUSE may be hiring a Graphic Designer to work on openSUSE, but when they do, I want them to find a functioning artwork team for them to collaborate with, not just a bunch of hackers desperate for relief from doing something which comes unnaturally to them. [opensuse-artwork] Meeting time!

Heya all, In a few hours you're all supposed to meet up for food, 11:30 according to the agenda at the wiki: https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:12.3_marketing_hackathon After that you'll have to plan for the rest of the week. As I am not there I decided to send my thoughts via mail and I hope you'll find time to set up a hangout for me and others to join ;-) First off, I would suggest one of you updates the agenda on the wiki to let those not there see what will be worked on and when and of course have a tracking tool for ourselves. If you like you could try to use the technique that was used at the previous hackathon with little cards with tasks to track progress and all that - but in any case, a list of artwork items and marketing things would be a good outcome of the meeting. A second thing you all need to discuss on the artwork side is HOW to work - there have been some discussions and conflicts lately and that has to be talked about. A face to face is the best chance to do that, so plase don't waste this opportunity! I'm sorry I can't be there but I'm sure somebody from the openSUSE team will help you. I would love to join by hangout also Tuesday morning to talk with the marketeers about the feature guide, there's lots of work to do on that and it is very important for the release. >From the tasks on the wiki there is one important and urgent thing that I'd like to mention: the SUSE documentation team has asked if we could go over the documentation and tell them a chapter which urgently needs updating. They have someone they can put on that dedicated but we need to tell them what chapter is most urgent. I've put this on the wiki, incl some info. We'll need help from Max Lin, I suppose, he has done this job for openSUSE 12.2 - I hope we can get him for a hangout. Can you guys and girls try to schedule this in the agenda? Hugs, Jos

Option C in my opinion would be the last resort if nothing else works, but maybe it is the best way. So far it seems that we need to patch kdebase4-openSUSE regardless of the solution chosen. It would be good to do this in the next few days, so that we can submit the final version to 12.3/Factory. We have to keep in mind that the Pre-release freeze is tomorrow !
