Hello
I tried to ripp a dvd with k3b 0.11.17 (Suse 9.1 with KDE 3.3.2
update), after having
installed transcode x86_64 0.6.12. At the beginning, all was good but at
a next step,
k3b said that it was able to use this version of transcode. Is this
version of k3b really
too much "young" for transcode ?

The version is 1.3.1, taken from planetmirror site.
Thanks for this idea of downgrade

Hello
I decided to upgrade KDE 3.2 of SuSE 9.1. So I downloaded from SuSE FTP
site the KDE 3.3 kit for
SuSE 9.1 (is there a way to use YOU for upgrading more quickly ? I tried
without success). Then with "rpm -Uvh", I
installed all the required packages. After reboot, I discovered that
there was no more KDE event sound
like at startup or at session logout. In KDE control, I verified that
all was right for sound server but I
can't now to play a selected sound in the list (by example for startup).
Otherwise, the sound is good :
with Kaffeine or MPlayer, I can play a DVD : all is perfect. I don't
understand what happens. Did I miss
something ?

Hi List,
i tried to install SuSE 9.2 on FSC V810 Dual Opteron 250 WS with 4 GB Ram.
No way. If i boot the standard smp 64 Bit Kernel i get a kernel panic at
the boot. If i boot the standard 64 Bit Kernel without smp, everything
seems to work fine.
As a result from this tests, i have tried to install SuSE 9.1. This
Distri boots with the standard smp 64 Bit kernel bit later it's
unstable. I.e. X crashes without any comment or log entrys.
There are any experiences regarding this problem??

There seems to be a bug in Gimp that prevents saving in xpm format. I
read something that implied it had been fixed. Will the new version
make it via the normal 9.1 updates soon, or shall we have to wait for
9.3, or has it been fixed in 9.2?

Hi,
I am new to this list, coming from suse-linux-e group...
I have a list of MBs to choose from, but would like to consult some
real-life-experienced users before I throw my money away:
K8V-X
K8V SE Deluxe
K8N nForce3 250
K8N-E Deluxe nForce3 250 Pro
- all from asustek...
I've done a lot of googling, looking through list archives, but could
not find exact match of these MBs to SuSE 9.2 (kernel 2.6.8-24.5). I am
afraid of some NIC and soundcard problems that I've heard of.
Regards & TIA

Hi,
Can someone tell me if it's possible to get the GCC 3.4.x suite for x86_64?
We are running on SLES8, which has gcc version 3.3 20030312 (prerelease)
(SuSE Linux). I just downloaded SLES 9, and see that it has GCC 3.3.3.
The problem I'm runing into is that I'm running up against what is most
likely a compiler bug that caused numerical problems in R
(www.r-project.org). For some background on the problem, see
https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-devel/2004-July/030260.html. Some people
reported success after upgrading to 3.4.x. I tried building GCC 3.4.3 and
3.4.2 from source, but the test failed.
Would appreciate any pointers...
Best,
Andy

I'm running 9.2 with kernel 2.6.8-24.5-smp on Sun Metropolis desktop
hardware.
I have have pilot/visor device (Treo 600). It successfully sync'd once
and now it refuses to sync. I get lots of resmgr errors.
Anyone out there using kpilot with 9.2 on Opteron hardware?
Is there a 64 bit issue with kpilot/resmgr/kpilotDaemon?

I'm running SuSE 9.1 64-bit and was having problems using the shared folder as anything other than a place to copy things to and/from. I attempted an Oracle 9iAS R2 install from the shared folder and it would hang.
I could however copy the Oracle 9iAS distro into the VMWare drive. I know that doesn't explain anything but its the only way I've been able to use the shared folder in a consistent manner.

Subject: [suse-amd64] VMware shared folders
Has anyone gotten shared folders to work with a 64-bit host?
vmtools installed fine, but if you try to read a host file (e.g. via cp
or cat) on the guest, the command never terminates as the stream VMware
is providing is infinitely long. If you look at what it's reading (via
cat), VMware is repeatedly inserting copies of the original file into
the virtual file, one right after the other, ad infinitem.
Any thoughts?
Environment:
Host: SuSE 9.2 64-bit (x86_64)
Guest: SuSE 9.2 32-bit
VMware: 4.5.2
Thanks.
