hi to everyone! i'm Davide and write from italy i would know if someone of you have implemented the udf packet writing on Fedora core3..(kernel 2.6.9 patched and pktsetup 1.0.0b3 patched because i have this problem: when modprobe pktcdvd, the device pktcdvd0 appear on /dev but whith strange "caracter" (crw------- 1 root root 10, 62) and there isn't one directory pktcdvd on /dev whith into the "0" device..so when i try to setup pktcdvd i obtain "ioctl: Inappropriate ioctl for device" ..if i create the "0" device on /dev/pktcdvd/ and try to setup it..the system hang! if anyone have any suggestion...ghh many thanks!!! ciao!!

Hi again, On 2.4 series there is a patch wich provides support for mounting dvd+rw devices read-write thru the normal cdrom device driver (e.g. /dev/hdd) I was ising it without majot problems until I switched to 2.6. in the 2.6 it works again after the pscket-writing patches merged, but I get "no space left on device after copying few files to the dvd. df shows gigabytes of free space, but i cannot copy anything to the disk. Any ideas? Thanks, compi

dead umount - some additional info

Hi, Don't know if it helps, but saved dmesg after pressig alt+printscreen+T Maybe it gives some additional information to trace the root of this weird behaviour. I has been produced on a different hardware with different DVD+/-RW unit. The kernel is the same (2.6.11-pre2) and the problem seems quite reproduceable on this box.vopied approx 1 gig to a newli formatted DVD +RW and the umount process never returned. Tried again with about 500M data and the results werw the same. Thanks, Attila

cannot umount

Hi, I am playinh with packet writing again since it is included in the main 2.6 tree, and having lots of problems. First, this freezing umount thingy also hits me, however emergency sync seems to be working. Also could be relvante information that after trying to umount the dvd+rw, I cannot umount _anything_ even a hdd partition mounted just to back it up to dvd. I'm runing 2.6.11-pre1, pktcdvd 0.2.0a Any ideas? compi

packetwriting to cd-r or dvd+r and packet writing issues with dvd+rw

hi there, I have 1 questions about packetwriting and 1 remark /question: 1 Is it possible to use packetwritiing with cd-r media like DirectCD can? I recall dvd+r media is not supported. 2 I use(d) Fedora Core 2 with the packet patch applied to the latest Fedora 2.6.9 kernel and patched udftools, have a nec 3500ag dvd+/-r(w) dual layer writer and a Celeron 2.4 Ghz 512 pc. I can not write to dvd+rw directly, got: #mkudffs /dev/cdrom trying to change type of multiple extents And when using a otherwise formatted udf dvd+rw disc: # mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom -t udf -o rw,noatime mount: blok-apparaat /dev/cdrom is schrijf-beveiligd, alleen-lezen aankoppelen (= block device is write only error in dutch) If I route it through pktcdvd everything works as expected: 1 'pktsetup nec /dev/cdrom' 2 mkudffs /dev/pktcdvd/nec' 3 'mount -o rw,noatime -t udf /dev/pktcdvd/nec /mnt/cdrom' 4 write some file(s) to /mnt/cdrom However today Fedora released kernel 2.6.10-1.8_FC2 and to my surprise it 1 allowed a simple 'mkudffs /dev/cdrom' and 2 already had pktcdvd module. So is this Fedora specific or has the pktcdvd driver become standard in kernel 2.6.10? And has something dvd+r(w) related changed between 2.6.9 and 10 that allows dvd+rw discs to be used as standard blockdevices with blocksize >= 2k without a packetdriver again or is this also Fedora related? -- Jeroen Beerstra jeroen.beerstra(a)gmail.com

Error when applying the patch

I am running the kernel-default package and the version is 2.6.5-7.111.19. Dear All, I have recently changed my operating system by purchasing SUSE Linux 9.2 Professional. However, I do miss the ability to drop files onto a desktop CDRW/DVD±RW icon - like InCD or DirectCD. Whilst crawling the web looking for help, I came across references for this. Unfortunately, as a complete newbie to linux, I really have not understood how I am supposed to install your software onto my system. Please, can anyone help? Simple instructions would be best! Thank you for your cooperation and assistance. Roy
