I've stuck a beta release of my rewritten mkudffs util up on sourceforge. Also included is a moded cdrwtool that works with it. http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/linux-udf/udftools-1.0.0b1.tar.gz Any problems, suggestions, etc. Let me know.... It should generate much more compliant images than the previous version, as well as supporting generating 2.x images in addition to 1.5. Ben

Teac CD-W524E Problems (slowness and corruption)

I (very recently) purchased a Teac CD-W524E drive. Unfortunately, it does not seem to be very compatible with pktcdvd. To be specific, it is EXTREMELY slow (ls on a relatively small directory once took five minutes; writing 150 megabytes to the disc and umounting it took over an hour!) and the discs seem to be highly prone to spontaneous corruption (for instance, an attempt at an ls of a file that should be there results in "permission denied" errors). IDE and SCSI emulation modes produced no difference in results that I could detect. Following is an excerpt from the log from a typical write. Notice the five minute delay towards the end. I didn't include the whole log excerpt because the operation generated about 8 megabytes of logging info. :) I did notice the log comments were very different than those left by the Sony CRX175A, which I managed to get to operate successfully. If anyone could help me with this, I'd appreciate it. I'd like Mount Rainier support on a drive, and Teac supposedly has it, but if I can't get it to work on Linux I'll have to take it back in about ten days to get my money back. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. If it matters, I am running kernel 2.4.17. New cdrwtool (trying to format too many blocks)

If your seeing the new cdrwtool fail and the value for blocks is more than it used to be, could you send me the output of cdrwtool -i. The new code bases the number of blocks on the lead_out, which looks like it can lie as bad as the track_size.. joy =) Ben

Segmentation fault with CDRW packet writing

Dear all, I am running kernel 2.4.17 and have applied the patch for enabling UDF packet writing. I always experience the same problem everytime I write my CDRW discs with file size about 7-10 MB. I have tried this with 2 different CD writer, Sony and Ricoh and both produce the same problem. The error message was segmentation fault and the associated process just hung and I couldn't even free and unmounting my CD writer because it was said to be busy whenever the problem persisted so I have to uncleanly reboot my system each time. BTW, I am using Redhat 7.2 and have done all the necessary steps compiling the kernel and prepare it for packet writing as mentioned in the procedures. Is there any tweak that I missed out? Compiling error

I'm trying to compile the udftools but the compile keeps crappoing out on me. I'm running Mandrake 8.1 with a 2.4.17 kernel. I have compiled UDF fs support as a module. I have made a new version of the packet patch available here: http://w1.894.telia.com/~u89404340/patches/packet/packet-2.4.18-pre4-2.patc… Changes since the 2.4.18-pre2 version: packet-2.4.18-pre4-2: - Don't do unnecessary work in pkt_release_dev and pkt_open. Unless it is the first open/last close, very little needs to be done. - Don't flush the cache on last close if the device was only opened for reading. - When opening/closing the packet block device, call blkdev_get and blkdev_put on the underlying cdrom device. This makes drive locking work automatically, and also gives better handling if the tray is open or the drive is not ready when you try to mount a filesystem. packet-2.4.18-pre4: - Fixed kernel hangs after I/O errors. - Make sure not to overflow the "read speed" value in pkt_set_speed(). packet-2.4.18-pre3: - Made it possible to set up/tear down the pktcdvd device even if there is no disc in the drive. - Don't lock the drive door at setup time, only keep the door locked while the device is opened for read or write. -- Peter Osterlund - petero2(a)telia.com http://w1.894.telia.com/~u89404340

Hi I'm new to this list.I've used the packet-cd patch until my last kernel-upgrade and was very impressed.it allowed me to record videos to a cdrw in realtime using ffmpeg. great!. Well but it was very hard for me to change the kernel. and i can't even find the newer kernel patches. well now that i am in this list i'll update to the 2.4.18 version some of you seem to be using. but where is it? Another thing: I read that cdrs will be supported as soon as the cdrw support works nicely. well imho that time has come and i'd be so very happy if i could record tv to cdrs intead of rw. very great woork you did. problem with disk formatting (cdrwtool) and other UDF troubles

Hello. Can anybody help me ? My system: RedHat 7.2 (2.4.17, gcc-2.95-3), IDE CDRW drive Mitsumi 4805, udf tools from udf-0.9.5 package. I successfully compile patched kernel 2.4.17 with UDF write support (with loadable modules) and now able to read and write to UDF CDRW disc (formatted by DirectCD 5.0 for Windows). But two problems remains: 1. I can't succesfully read files (writed by DirectCD) in folders on CDRW disk (perhaps problem with absence of owner/group information) - only in root of /mnt/cdrw directory. Please look to end of the letter for this problem. 2. I cannot finish formatting of CDRW disk with cdrwtool usage: --- [root@my home]# cdrwtool -d /dev/cdrom -q using device /dev/cdrom 1312KB internal buffer setting write speed to 12X Settings for /dev/cdrom: Fixed packets, size 32 Mode-2 disc ... What's the status of the packet writing project? Does it work? It appears as though the http://packet-cd.sourceforge.net/ home page hasn't been updated in over a year. If packet-writing is still a go, is the patch identified on this page still need for the 2.4.17 kernel? Cory
