pktcdvd0: WRITE error sector xxx

Hi, I have a problem writing anything to a external USB cdrw. Using cdrwtool -d /dev/scd0 -q -t 4 it is formated without any problems. Then I can mount it and see the content, the detected speeds are OK. But any write produces a lot of "pktcdvd0: WRITE error sector xxx" messages. It should not be related to a bad medium, I tried several with the same result and I think the drive doesn't even try to write, as the red LED is never active. I used packet-2.4.19-2 and packet-2.4.20-pre11 and with cdrecord the writer works without any problems. Any ideas? MKUDFFS fails

Hi, I still have the same problem that several people already had earlier but apparently it resolved for them. My CDRW device is a LiteON LTR-24102b. This occurs on every medium i use, with 650MB as well as 700MB CD-RWs, different manufacturers. I tried already quite a lot to resolve this, including different versions of both udftools and udf, different kernel versions (2.4.18 and 2.4.19), browsing the mailing list archives for patches and applying if appropriate, but nothing so far worked. When i set it up manually (cdrwtool -b, then -m and then mkudffs) the same thing happens, and it's not related to the amount of blocks used or the size of the UDF filesystem. The most important thing here to note is that it just worked 2 weeks ago. I have a UDF disk i formatted on this very machine and i still use it. Using the writer with whatsoever method trough cdrecord/cdrdao works w/o problems, the device is actually completely OK. Thanks a lot in advance for any hints. Does anyone know where a UDF write patch is for the kernel in Mandrake 9, version 2.4.19-?? When I tried to apply the 2.4.19 kernel patch from http://w1.894.telia.com/~u89404340/patches/packet/ <http://w1.894.telia.com/~u89404340/patches/packet/> it errors out on locating ioctl and asks if I want to skip the file. Hello, I created two patches for pktcdvd which deal with 4 issues: 1. Reading the maximum write speed from the ATIP of the media 2. A rounding problem 3. Getting the current speed selected instead of the maximum speed in pkt_get_speed() 4. Performing Optimum Power Calibration in pkt_open_write() I created these against packet-2.4.19-2. Beware Stephen. I had difficulty getting the module to compile using Redhat's kernel source. I'm having a great time with packet writing on 2.4.19, I've decided to drive it with ide-scsi and sr_mod so I can use cdrecord too. Only thing is the 1.4GHz machine gets really unresponsive during writes. I was wondering if there was a way to keep the UDF filesystem from updating the atime on files accesed while the disc is writeable. When it updates these times, I feel like I'm wearing out my disc when I read the files I've just written. Thanks, packet-writing gurus! It's a really useful patch. - Daniel Holth

I have updated the packet writing patch for use with kernel 2.5.40. http://w1.894.telia.com/~u89404340/patches/packet/2.5/packet-2.5.40.patch.b… There are no exciting new features, only adaptions to kernel changes. Although this version works, I get the feeling that it is slower than it used to be. It looks like the packet driver isn't fed enough simultaneous requests.
