cdrwtool doesn't work

Hi, I tried to use packet writing quite unsuccesfully. When I try to setup the cd with "./cdrwtool -d /dev/scd0 -q", it gives me the following output: using device /dev/scd0 1328KB internal buffer setting write speed to 4x Settings for /dev/scd0: Fixed packets, size 32 Mode-1 disc I'm going to do a quick setup of /dev/scd0. The disc is going to be blanked and formatted with one big track. All data on the device will be lost!! Press CTRL-C to cancel now. There it waits until I press return. Then it says Initiating quick disc blank and from that on, things start to be strange. The drive is switched to doublespeed (note that it said earlier it will be using 4x). This takes only a couple of minutes. After that I get the following messages which look alright to me: Disc capacity is 336779 blocks (673558KB/657MB) Formatting track Writing UDF structures to disc But then the formatting fails: -14400 (EDT)/300 mkudf: spared partitions must be a multiple of 32 blocks in size. and it quits :( Any suggestions? Ok, my hardware is not standard: Laptop PII-333, CDRW is a Panasonic KXL-RW10A which is supposed to be identical to the HP M820e. It comes with its own pcmcia scsi adapter which has a driver in the contribs folder, not in the official distribution. The driver gives me an oops at bootup, but other than that it works perfectly for mounting a cd as well as recording with cdrecord. cu, Philipp

Packet-writing summary

Hi all Could someone knowledgeable post a quick summary on this list for those of us who havent been following development? cdrwtool problems

i can't seem to get cdrwtool to do a quick setup with the packet-cd patch 0.0.2b and udf tools and module from current cvs. here's what i see: [root@sbox /root]# cdrwtool -d /dev/scd1 -q using device /dev/scd1 4085KB internal buffer setting write speed to 4x Settings for /dev/scd1: Fixed packets, size 32 Mode-1 disc I'm going to do a quick setup of /dev/scd1. Press CTRL-C to cancel now. and then it just sits there indefinitely. there is a corresponding entry in the kernel log file: Jun 25 13:19:51 sbox kernel: cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize i've tried this multiple cd-rw's, before and after blanking them. any hints? thanks, ian

Hi, Due to a couple of stupid errors in yesterdays release, I'm doing a new one today. Tested on SCSI as well as ATAPI this time. Patch is here: *.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/axboe/packet/packet-0.0.2b.tar.bz2 and is against 2.4.0-test1-ac21. Hi, I pulled the stuff back together into a brand new release of CD-RW packet writing. This release should be a lot more solid than previous versions, not to mention a whole lot faster. Patch is here ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/axboe/packet/packet-0.0.2a.tar… and is against 2.4.0-test1-ac21. Extract from Changelog: - kpacketd kernel thread pulling missing data - fix plugging bug - rewrite pkt_gather_data to a one-step solution - add private pktcdvd elevator - shutdown write access to device upon write failure - set inactive request queue head - rework locking - introduce per-pd queues, simplifies pkt_request - store pd in queuedata Since this is still considered alpha (at best), kdb is included in the patch. Hopefully this will make it much easier for folks experiencing problems to report back with useful info. This release is pretty solid for me, although I'm sure there are still lots of bugs.
