Cdrwtool segmentation fault - kernel 2.6.0-test*

Hi, I'd like to be able to have packet-writing working, but cannot figure out whether I'm doing something wrong or there is a bug somewhere. I've compiled (for Athlon) Linux kernel 2.6.0-test1 (and just a moment ago 2.6.0-test2, too) with udf and packet-cd support, but _without_ any scsi support (see the attached .config) and also tryed to applay the patch http://w1.894.telia.com/~u89404340/patches/packet/2.5/packet-2.6.0-test1.pa…, without better results. I have a Promise controller for the HD (so it is /dev/hde), a cd/dvd drive at /dev/hda and the cd-rw device at /dev/hdb (the model is HL-DT-ST GCE-8480B, according /proc/ide/hdb/model). I can read from both hda and hdb. Silly me... I'd have *sworn* I had it correctly. Note, however, that this does not explain why the kernel tried to load the character major 97 drive while looking for the block major 97 ... Dear list, I forgot to specify that I also tried to add : alias block-major-97 pktcdvd in the /etc/modutil/aliases file and ran update-modules. With this setup, the kernel does *not* complain about not finding a driver for block major 97, but the pktsetup utility still reports the same error(open cd-rom: No such device or address). Dear list, I have trouble using the recent packet driver. I downloaded http://w1.894.telia.com/~u89404340/patches/packet/2.4/packet-2.4.21.patch.b…, and used it to patch my kernel. I use Debian unstable, and compile my kernels with the Debian kernel-package utility. Almost all my drivers are compiled as modules, and I use the kernel module autoloader. At first, I saw the kernel trying to load the "pg" driver, which is the driver for generic access to parallel port IDE devices, and happens to be a character device, major 97 (the pktcdvd driver is a *block* device with major 97). I recompiled a kernel without parallel IDE modules. This time, when I try to "pktsetup /dev/graveur /dev/pktcdvd", I get an error : charpent@yod:~$ pktsetup /dev/graveur /dev/pktcdvd0 open cd-rom: No such device or address The syslog shows that the kernel complains that it doesn't know a block driver for major 97 : Jul 31 09:45:29 yod modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module block-major-97 The module can be manually inserted : yod:~# modprobe -v pktcdvd /sbin/insmod /lib/modules/2.4.21/kernel/drivers/block/pktcdvd.o Using /lib/modules/2.4.21/kernel/drivers/block/pktcdvd.o Symbol version prefix '' The syslog just says : Jul 31 10:06:24 yod kernel: pktcdvd: v0.0.2p 03/03/2002 Jens Axboe (axboe(a)suse.de) but I get the same error message as before whet trying to setup the packet writing device. Can't fixate CD-RW

All - I am trying to get a CD-RW to write using the udftools and "dar". I have done the following - compiled the SuSE 2.4.21-4 (mantel) kernel with the 2.4.21-patch from kernel.org; I had 3 "rejects" (two Makefiles which were easy to fix, and drivers/block/elevator.c, which seemed to have already had the patch applied) - used modprobe to load the pktcdvd module - cdrwtool -d /dev/cdrecorder -q - pktsetup /dev/pktcdvd0 /dev/cdrecorder - mount -t ufd -o rw,noatime /dev/pktcdvd0 /media/cdrecorder - used "dar" to write an archive on /media/cdrecorder - removed and restored a file from the archive At that point, I wanted to unmount and eject the CD-RW, to make sure the archive would be saved on the disc. So, I tried - umount /media/cdrecorder and the command never returns. The system is still up, but the Konsole window is still waiting for the command to complete. I have tried killing the command, rebooting the system, halting the system, nothing works. I finally had to power-cycle to get the system to reboot. After it rebooted, I thought maybe I missed a step, so I went back and re-read the "cd-rw hint" file I was working from, but didn't see any steps I missed. I even tried - modprobe to load the pktcdvd module - cdrwtool -d /dev/cdrecorder -q - pktsetup /dev/pktcdvd0 /dev/cdrecorder - mount -t ufd -o rw,noatime /dev/pktcdvd0 /media/cdrecorder - used "dar" to write an archive on /media/cdrecorder - removed and restored a file from the archive - cdrwtool -d /dev/cdrecorder -c 1 - umount /media/cdrecorder same result, can't reboot/shutdown/halt and the umount command never returns. can't read superblock

Hello, I use linux-2.4.21 with a slackware distrib. I have patched the kernel with the 2.4.21 patch available and compiled it successfully. I have been able to format a cdrw. The disc have been recognized by Adaptec DirectCD under Windows. problem formatting cd-rw with kernel 2.5.70-bk12

Hello, I have patched linux-2.5.70-bk12 with the packet-2.5.70 patch and rebuilt the kernel.
