I was about to update my kernel to the new stable 2.6.0, but notice Jens has added some changes since test11. Is there any reason to suppost the test11 patch wouldn't work? CDMRW with PHILIPS CDRWDVD3210

Hello! I tried to run "cdmrw -f full -d /dev/hdc" on a PHILIPS CDRWDVD3210 writer. It gives the following message: cdmrw: /dev/hdc is not a mrw drive or mrw reader Has someone (positive) experience with this drive? Linux-Kernel is 2.6.4. Are special options necessary? The drive works for burning CDs. I upgraded the firmware, it should support "easy-write", which is the same as mt-rainier?! Thanks! H-HB

lots of syslog error messages when writing to UDF DVDs

I'm running on an 650MHz Athlon, and the CD-RW drive in question is a generically rebranded Lite-On Combo LTC-48161H (16x DVD/48x read/48x CD-R/24x CD-RW combo drive.) I just compiled kernel 2.6.0, with the packet-writing patch (packet-2.6.1-rc1-2.patch.bz2) on a Debian unstable system. I followed the instructions in the hint file (http://cvs.linuxfromscratch.org/index.cgi/hints/Attic/cdrw-hint.txt?rev=1.3) to get it working, and it's working to an extent. The problem is that when I copy medium-large sized files (a few megabytes, such as an mp3,) the drive just keeps running & running, with the LED lit in amber (meaning it's writing). Running sync to get the drive to finish the job doesn't seem to do anything, and if I umount and remount the CD-RW, some of the files I tried to copy to it are missing. DVD Multisession

Hi. I want to write a multisession dvd. The problem is, that I can only write a singlesession. I tried: growisofs -M /dev/sr0=IMAGE_FILE Only the -Z command works Does anyone knows that problem or can solve it ? Thanks. Felix

Maybe it doesn't work if I also apply the packet patch ? I'll test it next week. sense: 00.00.00 read disc info failed cdmrw: failed to retrieve media status only appear under 2.4, but I'm worried about the ioctl: Input/output error that also appeared under 2.6.5-rc2. I did a test on Windows using InCD just to make sure my drive isn't damaged, and it seemed to work fine and much faster, but maybe the last part was just my impression since I only copied around 100Mb. Anyway, the 24x medias don't sound that good or my writer isn't very fast at reading Mount Rainier CDs, because Nero CD-DVD Speed reported an average os less than 10x for all them, while the 12x I was using with packet on the old drive have at least the double. What I'm replying to also didn't make into the list. With another 24x media brand (Prodisc Arita) I only got: not a mrw formatted disc LBA space: DMA No "new media" and "bgformat complete!", but like the other (Ritek), the light stopped after ~6 minutes, so I assumed it completed and I ran mkudffs --media-type=cdrw /dev/hdc. I also noticed that, unlike the other, which only terminated the cdmrw process after "bgformat complete!" appeared, it did in seconds and the format went in the background (just lacking to report when it completed). But it also took a long time (~10 minutes less) to put this: /dev/hdc 512960 506392 6568 99% /mnt/udf Maybe the new drive with only 2Mb of buffer versus the old GCE-8320B which had 8Mb makes that difference ? packet-writing really seemed much faster, and I was using 12x media (the drive only supported 10x). And now I just formatted another media of the same brand I first tested, and it acted like the above, so I have no idea why ioctl: Input/output error cdb: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 buffer (0): sense: 02.04.04 appeared. Cannot use cdrdao with packet device enabled

Hi, I can't write a CD using cdrdao when packetcdvd0 is linked to hdc. This doesn't happen if I just link packetcdvd0 with hdc. It happens if I mount a cd-rw, use it, and unmount. It shows the following message: ERROR: Cannot set write parameters mode page. ERROR: Cannot setup write parameters for session-at-once mode. ERROR: Please try to use the 'generic-mmc-raw' driver. ERROR: Writing failed. I then ran cdrecord in dummy mode and, after the process has begun, cancelled it. Then, I re-ran cdrdao and it worked. It may be some reset problem.
