Please help with this problem.
I am using Linux kernel 2.6.11.4-21.11-smp and SuSE 9.3 on a dual Opteron
machine. I access the Internet with a cable modem connected to a Linksys
router and my computers are connected to the router.
PREVIOUSLY: I could bring down the Internet connection with ifdown eth0 (in
super user mode) and (when I need the Internet again ), I could bring it up
bring it up with ifup eth0. It has been always working fine for months.
NOW: Since last week or so, probably as a result of any of the security
updates, the ifup command is not working. When I use the ifdown eth0 command
(in super user mode), the ifdown command shuts off the Internet connection
(as intended). However, now it does it in a way that the ifup eth0 command
does not work. Once I use ifdown, I must restart the computer to get the
Internet connection. The ifup command cannot bring up the Internet even when
the Internet is accessible to other computers connected to the router.
Please help by suggesting how to bring down the Internet connection and bring
it up again WITHOUT the need to restart the machine when the ifup command is
not working well.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Best regards.
