tcp_connect problem with SuSE 10

Hello all. When the instant messenger gaimt wants to play a sound, I get the following errors: tcp_connect: can't connect to server (tcp:presario.localnet:1036) unix_connect: can't connect to server (unix:/tmp/ksocketu-gus/presario.localnet-220c-436955fe) Could somebody explain what these error messages mean? The file '/etc/services' indicates that port 1036 is reserved for ntssp (tcp/udp Nebula Secure Segment Transfer Protocol). I admit I am lost. TIA for your time. CF

X.org, USB optical mouse and SuSE 9.3 AMD64 : bad behaviour at 3 (components) !

Hello all Before, I tested the SuSE 10.0 AMD64 and I got so many problems that I decided to go back to the SuSE 9.3 AMD64. The main problems under 10.0 are : no PCMCIA available (card modem), crash of the X server (driver nv) when reading DVDs, freeze of the computer with driver nVidia (8178) after 4 or 5 minutes of use, very slow access by writing files on USB memory key. I hoped to have no such problems with SuSE 9.3. I use it but on a laptop 32 bits : all works perfectly. Similar behaviour with AMD64 version ? My 64 bits computer : an Asus L5D laptop (Athlon64 3000+, chipset nVidia 150, graphic card nVidia 5650, touchpad and USB optical mouse). On this laptop, WinXP and SuSE 9.2 AMD64 ... and a space for an other SuSE ! All works fine under 9.2 (except often artsd of KDE (at login) and sometimes ksorfirq which becomes "crasy" : 100% of CPU used) : no problem in the use of the two devices, touchpad and mouse, in parallel. After installation of SuSE 9.3, I did a YOU : all is updated now. But I have a curious behaviour : after a random time of use, I loose the mouse. I tried an other one : same behaviour. When it occurs, the touchpad is still available. But when I do a logout, KDE closes very slowly and after the screen becomes black : no other way than to use the on/off swith of the laptop for halting properly the system. When the touchpad is desactived from the bios, I have the same problem ... but no way to exit from KDE ! For information, when I was watching a DVD (with Kaffeine) suddently the sound switched off and the mouse was lost at the same time. It occured one time. Curious behaviour, isn't it :-) ? Who can help me for solving this problem ? I tried to use other protocols for mouse (explorer, imps) without success. I did several configurations with Sax2. No improvement. Help !!! Same here. Unfortunately, I haven't even installed the drivers; the reason why I was asking was because I'm planning on buying some ATI cards for our Tyan / Linux workstations, and would like to know if they are supported. And for some reason it does not show it as possible target. Dmitry, Ricardo, how about your installer, does it has the same md5sum? Does it report Suse as a target for building rpm? Hi All, I was kind of partially successful in configuring the my wifi card with ndiswrapper-1.5 along with the 64-bit drivers downloaded from Acer website. But, not sure if I am facing a slight problem while transferring files from my desktop to my laptop. Actually it takes about 12 mins to transfer 6 mb file from my PC to laptop(I feel this is fairly slow). I am not sure if this should actually take so long ... it the . Info about my network@home: a PC connected to Wireless Access Point (which is Dlink, DL524, supports upto 54 mbps) over an CAT-5 cable and I connect to my wireless access point from my laptop. I use WEP 64-with bit key strength between the WAP and laptop. Is there configuration parameter tweaking required to improve the payload throughput? Auto Suspend Feature, Battery always displays %1

Hi I have been trying to migrate to linux full time. But I am facing 2 issues: 1. I see that my laptop (Acer Aspire 5000 amd64 turion, Suse 10 x86_64) does not show the exact battery status. Though the battery has full charge .... it just displays 1% when i log into KDE. 2. Auto suspend feature does not work ... similar to windows. I see that on the screen goes off ... and fan and processor just keep running when i close the display. Please put forward your suggestions. Thanks in advance, Best Regardz, Guru
