Hallo, suse-amd64 ML! I have a question about assembler source(gas) on x86-64. It is a thing about a .s file's difference between x86 and x86-64. Initial boot up on Compaq Presario R3340US Laptop

Good afternoon. I am attempting to set up a partition on my laptop for Suse 9.3 in the 64 mode for the amd64 athlon chip that is my system. The installation is fine until the initial boot prior to setting up the root password. When the system reboots, I am not given the option to define the root password. My other partition on this system is Suse 9.3 in the 32 mode. This works fine and I have been trying to look into the 64 mode partion which it acknowledges but will not access. Does anyone know of a way that I can determine what this nefarious undefined root password is so that I can access the 64 installation. The responses I get from my official requests to Suse help have been less than satisfactory. Any working suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Mike

SuSE 9.3 or openSuSE 10.0?

I am putting together an Opteron system later this week which will function primarily as a Java/database/sw development workstation and secondarily as a photographic/video workstation. The system is based on the Supermicro H8DCE motherboard, Opteron 246(s), 4G RAM, and eVGA 7800GTX. I hope to use the motherboard SATA to run (4) 250G SATA drives in Linux software RAID 10 I plan to install SuSE and/or Debian. Probably SuSE for now and try Debian when the current transitions have calmed down a bit. My question for you folks is: should I install SuSE 9.3 Professional (which I have on other desktops/workstations) or the openSuSE SuSE 10.0? Thanks R.Parr, RHCE Temporal Arts

problem with apache!

hi. I have a presistent problem with apache on my Amd64, 1GB. when i try to open a page on apache the computer hangs, I've traced the problem back to mod_ssl, so I've configured SSL and made a certificate as demonstrated on the doc's, but the problem still persists. can any one help? my speck's are Amd64 +3000 1GB HDD 310GB (250GB+60GB) Suse 9.3 Apache2 PHP5 and a problematic mod_SSL

I'm sorry Ryan, I didn't read the whole e-mail before I responded. The automatic update tool in YOU is working for me on a 3 9.3 machines, one of which is x86_64. 3D graphics on RS480 Mother Board

Hi I installed SuSe 9.3 Profesional on my AMD 64 3200 machine. It have RS480 MOBO which is a basically a ATI chip Set based MOBO. I downloaded the driver from ATI site but still I am unable to enable the 3D Acceleration. The graphics processor is inbuit in the MOBO and it is ATI Xpress 200 series chip. When you start YOU there is an option at the bottom of the screen to configure for automatic updates. What is the best way to automate online updates on suse? We use 9.x version on x86_64 machines. I'm looking for something that will automatically apply critical patches except for ones that have messages, for instance kernel updates. It would be nice if it informed me that a critical update is available to be installed. I've tried to perform autoupdate using the yast you autoupdate feature. I set the time and date I want the system to perform the update as normal. According to the log: /var/lib/YaST2/you/youlog no attempt is made by the system to perform an update at the specified time. I've also heard of fou4s. Does anyone have an opinion about this tool? Thanks. --ryan

traceroute6 goes into infinite loop

I recently encountered a stuck traceroute6 using 100% CPU. I tracked down the problem to a x86_64-specific bug in traceroute6 and have made a source patch (available at http://i1.dk/download/traceroute_patch/) USAGI traceroute6 works fine too.
