mysql stories for suse-amd64

Can anyone tell me stories about marrying mysql and suse-amd64? It'd be great to hear in some areas where folks have successfully used mysql binary distro or home-grown compiled versions of mysql, along with the hardware they have it running on. I'm not looking for performance touting. More over if anyone has a preferred ./configure options. I'm having a pickle of a time to get the mysql amd64 version to run stable on a debian pure64 install. My next venture is to see how well mysql on a suse-amd64 install runs. My hardware consists of dual opteron 250 8GB - sunfire v20z. Cheers, -.mag

I am currently using the 1.0.6111 driver and 2.6.8-24.11-default #1 How do I go about upgrading to version 6629? I don't see any available updates in YaST2. John

nvidia kernel mismatch?

OK, I should have disabled auto-update kernel in YaST. The problem: When I boot the system, the screen goes blank right at the end of the boot sequence, just at the point where the graphical login screen should appear. I had to disable S17xdm from rc5.d (from a telnet session) in order be able to login from the console. I then was able to insert a different graphics card and configure it to the point where I could enable S17xdm again in order to log-in and write this email. So, the question is this: Did the kernel upgrade screw up NVidia's proprietary driver? I now have 2.6.5-7.145 whereas the last kernel that worked was 2.6.5-7.111.30. Am I barking up the wrong tree? TIA

Problems accessing updates

Hi all, I am new to SuSE (9.2 DVD x86_64). I come from a Mandrake / PCLOS background. I am having what I suppose is a basic problem trying to install updates. I have set up the ftp site in YaST - Online Updates and it fetches the list of updates. Problem is I can't seem to install packages the are supposed to be in the x86_64 directory. Bacically what I am saying is I can't seem to install new x86_64 software from ftp sites. I must be making a simple mistake but this is the first time I have used the SuSE package manger / YaST. Could someone maybe let me know what I am doing wrong or point me to a FAQ for installing new packages? Thanks. John Watson.
