What options are available for 64-bit SuSE for reliably executing writes of any length on NTFS partitions? Is there anything like captive-ntfs for 64-bit SuSE? CF

Install Windows after Linux?

Hi folks-- I'm currently dual-booting XP and 10.0. Linux resides on a SATA drive, but the MBR is on an IDE /hda. Well, Windows is corrupt, and I need to reinstall it. I think I'm going to go back to W2K instead of XP. Now, I know that W2K will rewrite the MBR and make SuSE unbootable. Is there an easy way to repair this? For example, will the automatic repair option fix it? Thanks....

Problems with ALSA's OSS emulation

Hi all. I've been trying to get all applications to share the sound card. As you may imagine, the most problematic have been 32-bit applications which are ALSA-agnostic, the most troublesome --and, unfortunately, most useful-- of them being skype. I wrote the following short two-line script, called 'osswrap', to make use of ALSA's OSS emulation: export LD_PRELOAD=$LD_PRELOAD:/usr/lib/libaoss.so exec $@ Although I get errors about about loading '/usr/lib/libaoss', the script works just fine with kopete (so, say, I can listen to my favorite jazz station on amarok while still being able to hear sounds from kopete), but not so well with skype. With skype, it works for the first two seconds, but then I get 'read error, res = -1 , handle = 41' and the incoming --and outgoing-- sound disappears, although I can hear the hangup sound. [1]+ Done ~/osswrap kopete gus@presario:~> I can't wait for project gizmo (http://www.gizmoproject.com) to deliver on its promises, but until then I have to put up with the closed-source, 32-bit, ALSA-agnostic skype. (Skype for Linux came out in 2004. Why would anybody write an OSS-only application in 2004 is beyond me!) The past few days project gizmo added Fedora support to Debian, so let's hope SuSE support is not too far behind and that their program is 64-bit ALSA compatible!

Linux macro recorder or scripting

Hi- On windows I routinely use nmacrorec to record a sequence of mouse moves and clicks to automate tasks like saving a spreadsheet as a csv file. Is there a similar tool for SUSE 10.? modprobe ndiswrapper probelm

Hi I am running SuSe 10 64 bit on my AMD 64 bit (Compaq Presario 3100) Laptop. I downloaded the latest ndiswraper and did make and make install. But when I did modprobe ndiswrapper I got an error saying "Operation Not Permitted". Also doing dmesg | tail giving "ndiswrapper: module not Supported by Novell, setting U taint Flag" I also tried to compile the default ndiswrapper source code came with the SuSe 10 64 bit DVD but when I did modprobe ndiswrapper got an error "FATAL ERROR MODULE NOT FOUND" ( to compile the code I went to /usr/src/kernel-moduels/ndiswrapper and then did make and make install) Does any one able to make ndiswrapper on under SuSe 10.
