KVM Mouse Problems

Hey, Guys. Just picked up a new KVM switching box, and was setting it up. It runs between my Suse 9.1 64bit system and an old WINXP box. (Reference to "connected" from her out refers to being through the KVM switch, unless otherwise stated) For some reason when the mouse is connected to the XP box it works fine, but when switching to the linux system it becomes scrambled and hectic. It will move only slightly from the corner of the screen before it jumps back. Movement is glitchy/jumpy. It continues to pull up windows and menus as if a button was being held or repetedly pressed. I currently use an logitech optical usb mouse with a usb to PS2 converter, but have tried switching out with an old ball mouse. The mouse does not glitch when plugged in directly to the Linux system, nor when plugged via KVM to other systems. Have tried: rebooting after connecting the mouse to the KVM; switching the connectors of port A and B (To assure one portside is not messed up electronicly); checking the drivers for the mouse (they seem to be the right ones); and switching mice. sbp2 problems

Hi, I have a weird problem with sbp2 on an amd64/SuSE9.1 machine. When I plug in a firewire harddrive (Apple iPod, PC partitioned) it gives me an "unknown partition message" which is strange since this partition map gets recognized without problems on every other machine with the same setup - SuSE 9.1 The firewire card is recognized as a Lucent Microelectronics FW323 and worked without any probem on an older linux system, so I suppose this is a problem with the sbp2 driver (?) I'm running a SuSE kernel version 2.6.4-54.5-default. The only change I did was to add the line options sbp2 serialize_io=1 to /etc/modprobe.conf.local, since this was needed to get access to the iPod on all other machines. Any ideas? 9.1 and 2.4

Hi! I deeply depend on afs/openafs. As there seem to be no way to use afs with a 2.6 kernel I would like to run a 2.4 kernel. Is there any way I can run a 2.4 Kernel with SuSE 9.1, be it rpm or selfmade, on my k8 cpu? In the later case, would there be any tool to revert my modprobe.conf to a modules.conf? Excessive memory usage

Is someone else seeing excessive memory usage, in SuSE ? /home/oehansen> free total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 511480 508108 3372 0 11072 74076 -/+ buffers/cache: 422960 88520 Swap: 1895628 1719860 175768 This is just the desktop, plus kmail running?

Using apt ... and xine

Ok, I'm using apt to update KDE, and I get strange dependancy issues... PyQt: Depends: libqscintilla.so.2()(64bit) but it is not installable But the version in SuSE 9.1 is vdir /usr/lib64/libqscintilla.so.3 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 35 2004-05-19 22:59 /usr/lib64/libqscintilla.so.3 -> ../lib/qt3/lib64/libqscintilla.so.3 Anyone? For those who have tried to build xine, version rc4a crashes, but rc3c will compile, at least for me.

I installed clamav from dvd. updated via online-update. MSI K8T Neo {Via VT8237, Promise 20378} SATA + Suse9.1 - stable?

Hi, recently I tried to install Suse v9.1-AMD64 on my Athlon64 machine with an MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R (MS-6702) board. [Kernel was updated to 2.6.4-54.5] To make the story short: During various stages (after finishing the installation and trying to fix issues like an incorrectly formatted swap partition), I had my only SATA drive connected to either of the two SATA controllers (and always the other one disabled). Still I encountered many complete system freezes and recently mainly kernel oopses, which - as far as I can tell - were related to either access to the SATA HDD or a PATA device on the VT8237 controller. Even though I can finally boot the system, strangely yast2 is broken in a way that I get "import 'SCR' failed" errors. [I was only fiddling with modules.dep and initrd.] Unless you have a better idea, I have now made up my mind that I should take the windows approach and format-and-reinstall Suse9.1. But before I start with that and run into the same problems: Can you recommend to me which of the IDE controllers I should use? Which one has the most stable amd64 kernel modules? Or should I consider patching the kernel (for a recent sata_via patch see also: http://lwn.net/Articles/76129/ ) - or possibly using a kraxel kernel? Would system stability increase if I switched to a 32-bit kernel? Maybe the SATA controllers are not the problem? Any hints would be greatly appreciated. best regards, Jan P.S.: On the Via VT8237 my SATA hdd is now recognized as /dev/hda. Should it not be /dev/sda as on the Promise? PPS: When I got the system to run after switching the SATA drive from Promise to VT8237, the hardware autorecognition feature offered me to add the sata_via module to initrd. I said 'yes' and my initrd got screwed in a way that I could not boot anymore. It took me quite a while to recreate a workable initrd - and still I got error messages that mkinitrd could not check the dependencies in modules.dep for sata_via. Maybe something is wrong with the mkinitrd script? PPPPS. I also have a recent NVidia based graphic card, which takes an AGP aperture of 128MB. Örn, Could you also do a ps or a top at the same time and show what is running? It is not unusual for Linux to show very little free memory in ram, but you are also using a lot of swap. Linux should almost always show little free ram. It is designed to use as much ram as possible to buffer everything, but processes give up the ram easily for more important tasks. You are using a lot of swap though, that means something is running that really needs memory. ps and top will give an idea of what is running on your system. top can run in batch mode with the 'b' flag. you can limit the number of iterations with the 'n' flag. You can probably eliminate idle processes, they may or may not be a problem, but you should start searching without them using the 'i' flag. For four iterations with a 1 second refresh in batch mode without idle processes use the command: top bin 4 d 1 > top_log1 to include the idle processes use the same command without the 'i': top bn 4 d 1 > top_log2 running top in interactive mode will let you sort the processes in all kinds of ways: by memory usage, cpu usage, pid, etc. type 'top' and when it is running hit the 'h' key for a help screen.
