______________________________________________________________________________
1) Solved Security Vulnerabilities
To avoid flooding mailing lists with SUSE Security Announcements for minor
issues, SUSE Security releases weekly summary reports for the low profile
vulnerability fixes. The SUSE Security Summary Reports do not list or
download URLs like the SUSE Security Announcements that are released for
more severe vulnerabilities.
Fixed packages for the following incidents are already available on our FTP
server and via the YaST Online Update.
- fetchmail
This update fixes a heap-based overflow in fetchmail's sdump() function.
It can be exploited while displaying detailed X.509 certification in-
formation to cause a crash or to probably execute arbitrary code too.
(CVE-2010-0562: CVSS v2 Base Score: 4.0)
Affected products: openSUSE 11.2
- krb5
Invalid requests by unauthenticated attackers could crash the kerberos
server. (CVE-2010-0283: CVSS v2 Base Score: 7.8)
Affected products: openSUSE 11.2
- rubygem-actionpack-2_1
This update of rubygems fixes two vulnerabilities:
- CVE-2008-7248: CVSS v2 Base Score: 4.3
Rails CSRF protection can be bypassed by using special content-types
for a HTTP request.
- CVE-2009-4214: CVSS v2 Base Score: 4.3
The method strip_tags does not completely protect agains XSS attacks.
Affected products: SLE11
- libexpat0
Specially crafted XML files could crash applications that use expat to
parse such files.
(CVE-2009-2625: CVSS v2 Base Score: 5.0, CVE-2009-3560: CVSS v2 Base
Score: 5.0)
Affected products: openSUSE 11.0-11.2
- unbound
Unbound did not check signatures on NSEC3 records which allowed
attackers who could spoof DNS responses to bypass DNSSEC.
(CVE-2009-3602: CVSS v2 Base Score: 7.5)
Affected products: openSUSE 11.1-11.2
- apache2-mod_php5/php5
This update of php5 fixes:
CVE-2008-5624: CVSS v2 Base Score: 7.5: bypass safe_mode
CVE-2008-5625: CVSS v2 Base Score: 7.5: bypass safe_mode
CVE-2008-5814: CVSS v2 Base Score: 2.6: Cross-Site Scripting
CVE-2009-2626: CVSS v2 Base Score: 6.4: Information Leak
CVE-2009-2687: CVSS v2 Base Score: 4.3: Input Validation
CVE-2009-3546: CVSS v2 Base Score: 4.4: Buffer Overflow in gd
CVE-2009-4017: CVSS v2 Base Score: 5.0: Denial of Service
CVE-2009-4142: CVSS v2 Base Score: 4.3: Cross-Site Scripting
Affected products: openSUSE 11.0-11.2, SLE10-11

2) Pending Vulnerabilities, Solutions, and Work-Arounds
none

3) Authenticity Verification and Additional Information
- Announcement authenticity verification:
SUSE security announcements are published via mailing lists and on Web
sites. The authenticity and integrity of a SUSE security announcement is
guaranteed by a cryptographic signature in each announcement. All SUSE
security announcements are published with a valid signature.
To verify the signature of the announcement, save it as text into a file
and run the command
gpg --verify <file>
replacing <file> with the name of the file containing the announcement.
The output for a valid signature looks like:
gpg: Signature made <DATE> using RSA key ID 3D25D3D9
gpg: Good signature from "SuSE Security Team <security(a)suse.de>"
where <DATE> is replaced by the date the document was signed.
If the security team's key is not contained in your key ring, you can
import it from the first installation CD. To import the key, use the
command
gpg --import gpg-pubkey-3d25d3d9-36e12d04.asc
- Package authenticity verification:
SUSE update packages are available on many mirror FTP servers all over the
world. While this service is considered valuable and important to the free
and open source software community, the authenticity and integrity of a
package needs to be verified to ensure that it has not been tampered with.
The internal RPM package signatures provide an easy way to verify the
authenticity of an RPM package. Use the command
rpm -v --checksig <file.rpm>
to verify the signature of the package, replacing <file.rpm> with the
filename of the RPM package downloaded. The package is unmodified if it
contains a valid signature from build(a)suse.de with the key ID 9C800ACA.
This key is automatically imported into the RPM database (on RPMv4-based
distributions) and the gpg key ring of 'root' during installation. You can
also find it on the first installation CD and included at the end of this
announcement.
- SUSE runs two security mailing lists to which any interested party may
subscribe:
opensuse-security(a)opensuse.org
- General Linux and SUSE security discussion.
All SUSE security announcements are sent to this list.
To subscribe, send an e-mail to
<opensuse-security+subscribe(a)opensuse.org>.
opensuse-security-announce(a)opensuse.org
- SUSE's announce-only mailing list.
Only SUSE's security announcements are sent to this list.
To subscribe, send an e-mail to
<opensuse-security-announce+subscribe(a)opensuse.org>.

______________________________________________________________________________
1) Problem Description and Brief Discussion
This update fixes various security issues and some bugs in the SUSE
Linux Enterprise 9 kernel.
CVE-2009-4005: The collect_rx_frame function in
drivers/isdn/hisax/hfc_usb.c in the Linux kernel allows attackers
to have an unspecified impact via a crafted HDLC packet that arrives
over ISDN and triggers a buffer under-read.
CVE-2009-3080: Array index error in the gdth_read_event function in
drivers/scsi/gdth.c in the Linux kernel allows local users to cause
a denial of service or possibly gain privileges via a negative event
index in an IOCTL request.
CVE-2010-0007: Missing CAP_NET_ADMIN checks in the ebtables netfilter
code might have allowed local attackers to modify bridge firewall
settings.
CVE-2009-4536: drivers/net/e1000/e1000_main.c in the e1000 driver
in the Linux kernel handles Ethernet frames that exceed the MTU by
processing certain trailing payload data as if it were a complete
frame, which allows remote attackers to bypass packet filters via a
large packet with a crafted payload.
CVE-2009-3889: The dbg_lvl file for the megaraid_sas driver in the
Linux kernel has world-writable permissions, which allows local users
to change the (1) behavior and (2) logging level of the driver by
modifying this file.
CVE-2009-1883: The z90crypt_unlocked_ioctl function in the z90crypt
driver in the Linux kernel does not perform a capability check for
the Z90QUIESCE operation, which allows local users to leverage euid
0 privileges to force a driver outage.
CVE-2009-2903: Memory leak in the appletalk subsystem in the Linux
kernel, when the appletalk and ipddp modules are loaded but the
ipddp"N" device is not found, allows remote attackers to cause a
denial of service (memory consumption) via IP-DDP datagrams.
CVE-2009-3621: net/unix/af_unix.c in the Linux kernel allows local
users to cause a denial of service (system hang) by creating an
abstract-namespace AF_UNIX listening socket, performing a shutdown
operation on this socket, and then performing a series of connect
operations to this socket.
CVE-2009-3620: The ATI Rage 128 (aka r128) driver in the Linux
kernel does not properly verify Concurrent Command Engine (CCE)
state initialization, which allows local users to cause a denial of
service (NULL pointer dereference and system crash) or possibly gain
privileges via unspecified ioctl calls.
2) Solution or Work-Around
There is no known workaround, please install the update packages.
3) Special Instructions and Notes
Please reboot the machine after installing the update.
4) Package Location and Checksums
The preferred method for installing security updates is to use the YaST
Online Update (YOU) tool. YOU detects which updates are required and
automatically performs the necessary steps to verify and install them.
Alternatively, download the update packages for your distribution manually
and verify their integrity by the methods listed in Section 6 of this
announcement. Then install the packages using the command
rpm -Fhv <file.rpm>
to apply the update, replacing <file.rpm> with the filename of the
downloaded RPM package.
Our maintenance customers are notified individually. The packages are
offered for installation from the maintenance web:

6) Authenticity Verification and Additional Information
- Announcement authenticity verification:
SUSE security announcements are published via mailing lists and on Web
sites. The authenticity and integrity of a SUSE security announcement is
guaranteed by a cryptographic signature in each announcement. All SUSE
security announcements are published with a valid signature.
To verify the signature of the announcement, save it as text into a file
and run the command
gpg --verify <file>
replacing <file> with the name of the file where you saved the
announcement.
SUSE update packages are available on many mirror FTP servers all over the
world. While this service is considered valuable and important to the free
and open source software community, the authenticity and the integrity of
a package needs to be verified to ensure that it has not been tampered
with.
This key is automatically imported into the RPM database (on
RPMv4-based distributions) and the gpg key ring of 'root' during
installation. You can also find it on the first installation CD and at
the end of this announcement.
- SUSE runs two security mailing lists to which any interested party may
subscribe:
opensuse-security(a)opensuse.org
- General Linux and SUSE security discussion.
All SUSE security announcements are sent to this list.
To subscribe, send an e-mail to
<opensuse-security+subscribe(a)opensuse.org>.

- SUSE's announce-only mailing list.
Only SUSE's security announcements are sent to this list.

______________________________________________________________________________
1) Solved Security Vulnerabilities
To avoid flooding mailing lists with SUSE Security Announcements for minor
issues, SUSE Security releases weekly summary reports for the low profile
vulnerability fixes. The SUSE Security Summary Reports do not list or
download URLs like the SUSE Security Announcements that are released for
more severe vulnerabilities.
Fixed packages for the following incidents are already available on our FTP
server and via the YaST Online Update.
- moodle
This patch updates Moodle to the latest stable upstream version (1.9.7)
fixing multiple security issues:
CVE-2009-4297, CVE-2009-4298, CVE-2009-4299, CVE-2009-4300,
CVE-2009-4301, CVE-2009-4302, CVE-2009-4303, CVE-2009-4304,
CVE-2009-4305, MSA-09-0030
(New detection of insecure Flash player plugins)
The new version also has a completely new , more secure password handling.
Beside other features, Admins will be asked to change their passwords next
time they log in after upgrading.
Affected products: openSUSE 11.0-11.1
- xpdf
This update of xpdf fixes an integer overflow that may lead to code
execution. (CVE-2009-4035: CVSS v2 Base Score: 6.8)
Affected products: SLES SDK 9
- pdns-recursor
This update of pdns-rucursor improves the packet parsing code to fix a
possible DNS spoofing vulnerability (CVE-2009-4010) and a remote buffer
overflow that could give the ability to execute arbitrary code (CVE-2009-4009).
Affected products: openSUSE 11.0-11.2
- pango
Long glyph string could trigger a heap-based buffer overflow in pango
(CVE-2009-1194).
Affected products: openSUSE 11.0-11.1, NLD9, SLES9, SLE10, SLE11
- horde
This update of horde fixes:
- CVE-2009-3236: CVSS v2 Base Score: 5.0: Overwrite arbitrary files and
execute PHP code
- CVE-2009-3237: CVSS v2 Base Score: 5.0: Cross-Site Scripting (XSS)
- CVE-2009-3701: CVSS v2 Base Score: 4.3: Cross-Site Scripting (XSS)
- CVE-2009-4363: CVSS v2 Base Score: 4.3: Cross-Site Scripting (XSS)
Affected products: openSUSE 11.0
- gnome-screensaver
gnome-screensaver was updated to the stable release 2.28.3, fixing
various bugs and security issues.
Following security issues have been fixed:
When resuming a system gnome-screensaver does not lock external displays
that got connected while the system was suspended (CVE-2010-0285:
CVSS v2 Base Score: 5.6).
Additionally another bug in gnome-screensaver was fixed that allowed
bypassing the unlock dialog by using a removable monitor. (CVE-2010-0414:
CVSS v2 Base Score: 6.2)
Pressing "return" repeatedly caused a X error which terminated the
lock and so allowed local users to access the underlying session.
CVE-2010-0422: gnome-screensaver can lose its keyboard grab when locked,
exposing the system to intrusion by adding and removing monitors.
Affected products: openSUSE 11.1-11.2
- fuse
A race condition in fusermount allowed users to umount any filesystem
(CVE-2009-3297).
Affected products: SLE SDK 10, SLED10
- gnutls
gnutls did not properly handle embedded '\0' characters in x509
certificates. Attackers using specially crafted certificates could
exploit that to conduct man-in-the-middle attacks (CVE-2009-2730).
Affected products: openSUSE 11.2
- flash-player
Insufficient checks in flash-player allowed malicious flash applets to
create illegal cross-domain requests (CVE-2010-0186). The update also
fixes a denial of service condition (CVE-2010-0187).
Affected products: 11.0-11.2, SLE10, SLE11

1) Problem Description and Brief Discussion
This kernel update for openSUSE 11.0 fixes some bugs and several
security problems.
The following security issues are fixed:
CVE-2009-4536: drivers/net/e1000/e1000_main.c in the e1000 driver
in the Linux kernel handles Ethernet frames that exceed the MTU by
processing certain trailing payload data as if it were a complete
frame, which allows remote attackers to bypass packet filters via a
large packet with a crafted payload.
CVE-2009-4538: drivers/net/e1000e/netdev.c in the e1000e driver in
the Linux kernel does not properly check the size of an Ethernet
frame that exceeds the MTU, which allows remote attackers to have an
unspecified impact via crafted packets.
CVE-2010-0007: Missing CAP_NET_ADMIN checks in the ebtables netfilter
code might have allowed local attackers to modify bridge firewall
settings.
CVE-2010-0003: An information leakage on fatal signals on x86_64
machines was fixed.
CVE-2009-4138: drivers/firewire/ohci.c in the Linux kernel, when
packet-per-buffer mode is used, allows local users to cause a denial
of service (NULL pointer dereference and system crash) or possibly
have unknown other impact via an unspecified ioctl associated with
receiving an ISO packet that contains zero in the payload-length field.
CVE-2009-4308: The ext4_decode_error function in fs/ext4/super.c
in the ext4 filesystem in the Linux kernel before 2.6.32 allows
user-assisted remote attackers to cause a denial of service (NULL
pointer dereference), and possibly have unspecified other impact,
via a crafted read-only filesystem that lacks a journal.
CVE-2009-3939: The poll_mode_io file for the megaraid_sas driver in
the Linux kernel 2.6.31.6 and earlier has world-writable permissions,
which allows local users to change the I/O mode of the driver by
modifying this file.
CVE-2009-4021: The fuse_direct_io function in fs/fuse/file.c in the
fuse subsystem in the Linux kernel before 2.6.32-rc7 might allow
attackers to cause a denial of service (invalid pointer dereference
and OOPS) via vectors possibly related to a memory-consumption attack.
CVE-2009-3547: A race condition in the pipe(2) system call could be
used by local attackers to hang the machine. The kernel in Moblin
2.0 uses NULL ptr protection which avoids code execution possibilities.
CVE-2009-2903: Memory leak in the AppleTalk subsystem in the Linux
kernel 2.4.x through 2.4.37.6 and 2.6.x through 2.6.31, when the
AppleTalk and ipddp modules are loaded but the ipddp"N" device is
not found, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service
(memory consumption) via IP-DDP datagrams.
CVE-2009-3621: net/unix/af_unix.c in the Linux kernel 2.6.31.4 and
earlier allows local users to cause a denial of service (system hang)
by creating an abstract-namespace AF_UNIX listening socket, performing
a shutdown operation on this socket, and then performing a series of
connect operations to this socket.
CVE-2009-3612: The tcf_fill_node function in net/sched/cls_api.c in
the netlink subsystem in the Linux kernel 2.6.x before 2.6.32-rc5,
and 2.4.37.6 and earlier, does not initialize a certain tcm__pad2
structure member, which might allow local users to obtain sensitive
information from kernel memory via unspecified vectors.
CVE-2009-3620: The ATI Rage 128 (aka r128) driver in the Linux kernel
before 2.6.31-git11 does not properly verify Concurrent Command Engine
(CCE) state initialization, which allows local users to cause a denial
of service (NULL pointer dereference and system crash) or possibly
gain privileges via unspecified ioctl calls.
CVE-2009-3726: The nfs4_proc_lock function in fs/nfs/nfs4proc.c in
the NFSv4 client in the Linux kernel before 2.6.31-rc4 allows remote
NFS servers to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference
and panic) by sending a certain response containing incorrect file
attributes, which trigger attempted use of an open file that lacks
NFSv4 state.
CVE-2009-3286: NFSv4 in the Linux kernel 2.6.18, and possibly other
versions, does not properly clean up an inode when an O_EXCL create
fails, which causes files to be created with insecure settings such
as setuid bits, and possibly allows local users to gain privileges,
related to the execution of the do_open_permission function even when
a create fails.
CVE-2009-2910: arch/x86/ia32/ia32entry.S in the Linux kernel before
2.6.31.4 on the x86_64 platform does not clear certain kernel
registers before a return to user mode, which allows local users to
read register values from an earlier process by switching an ia32
process to 64-bit mode.
CVE-2009-3238: The get_random_int function in drivers/char/random.c
in the Linux kernel before 2.6.30 produces insufficiently random
numbers, which allows attackers to predict the return value, and
possibly defeat protection mechanisms based on randomization, via
vectors that leverage the function's tendency to "return the same
value over and over again for long stretches of time."
CVE-2009-2848: The execve function in the Linux kernel,
possibly 2.6.30-rc6 and earlier, does not properly clear the
current->clear_child_tid pointer, which allows local users to cause a
denial of service (memory corruption) or possibly gain privileges via
a clone system call with CLONE_CHILD_SETTID or CLONE_CHILD_CLEARTID
enabled, which is not properly handled during thread creation and exit.
CVE-2009-3002: The Linux kernel before 2.6.31-rc7 does not initialize
certain data structures within getname functions, which allows
local users to read the contents of some kernel memory locations
by calling getsockname on (1) an AF_APPLETALK socket, related to
the atalk_getname function in net/appletalk/ddp.c; (2) an AF_IRDA
socket, related to the irda_getname function in net/irda/af_irda.c;
(3) an AF_ECONET socket, related to the econet_getname function
in net/econet/af_econet.c; (4) an AF_NETROM socket, related to the
nr_getname function in net/netrom/af_netrom.c; (5) an AF_ROSE socket,
related to the rose_getname function in net/rose/af_rose.c; or (6)
a raw CAN socket, related to the raw_getname function in net/can/raw.c.
CVE-2009-1633: Multiple buffer overflows in the cifs subsystem
in the Linux kernel before 2.6.29.4 allow remote CIFS servers to
cause a denial of service (memory corruption) and possibly have
unspecified other impact via (1) a malformed Unicode string, related
to Unicode string area alignment in fs/cifs/sess.c; or (2) long Unicode
characters, related to fs/cifs/cifssmb.c and the cifs_readdir function
in fs/cifs/readdir.c.
2) Solution or Work-Around
There is no known workaround, please install the update packages.
3) Special Instructions and Notes
Reboot the machine after installing the update.
4) Package Location and Checksums
The preferred method for installing security updates is to use the YaST
Online Update (YOU) tool. YOU detects which updates are required and
automatically performs the necessary steps to verify and install them.
Alternatively, download the update packages for your distribution manually
and verify their integrity by the methods listed in Section 6 of this
announcement. Then install the packages using the command
rpm -Fhv <file.rpm>
to apply the update, replacing <file.rpm> with the filename of the
downloaded RPM package.

SUSE update packages are available on many mirror FTP servers all over the
world. While this service is considered valuable and important to the free
and open source software community, the authenticity and the integrity of
a package needs to be verified to ensure that it has not been tampered
with.

SUSE Security Announcement
Package: postfix
Announcement ID: SUSE-SA:2010:011
Date: Mon, 15 Feb 2010 14:00:00 +0000
Affected Products: openSUSE 11.2
Vulnerability Type: remote denial of service
CVSS v2 Base Score: 5.0 (AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:P)
SUSE Default Package: yes
Cross-References: CVE-2010-0230
Content of This Advisory:
1) Security Vulnerability Resolved:
postfix port open
Problem Description
2) Solution or Work-Around
3) Special Instructions and Notes
4) Package Location and Checksums
5) Pending Vulnerabilities, Solutions, and Work-Arounds:
- see SUSE Security Summary Report
6) Authenticity Verification and Additional Information
______________________________________________________________________________
1) Problem Description and Brief Discussion
The value of SMTPD_LISTEN_REMOTE accidentally defaulted to 'yes'. The postfix
smtp daemon therefore was reachable over the network by default.
This update resets the value to 'no' in /etc/sysconfig/mail. If you
intentionally want postfix to listen for remote connections you need to
manually set it to 'yes' again.
This update also fixes a problem where the relay database was not created and
postfix refused to start.
2) Solution or Work-Around
Manually set SMTPD_LISTEN_REMOTE to 'no' and run
# SuSEconfig --module postfix
3) Special Instructions and Notes
Please restart postfix after the update.
Watch out for SuSEconfig output indicating that /etc/postfix/main.cf
wasn't fixed due to local modifications. In that case either rename
/etc/postfix/main.cf.SuSEconfig to /etc/postfix/main.cf or manually
run
# postconf -e "inet_interfaces = localhost"
4) Package Location and Checksums
The preferred method for installing security updates is to use the YaST
Online Update (YOU) tool. YOU detects which updates are required and
automatically performs the necessary steps to verify and install them.
Alternatively, download the update packages for your distribution manually
and verify their integrity by the methods listed in Section 6 of this
announcement. Then install the packages using the command
rpm -Fhv <file.rpm>
to apply the update, replacing <file.rpm> with the filename of the
downloaded RPM package.

SUSE Security Summary Report
Announcement ID: SUSE-SR:2010:003
Date: Tue, 09 Feb 2010 11:00:00 +0000
Cross-References: CVE-2008-6123, CVE-2009-3297, CVE-2010-0295,
CVE-2009-4035
Content of this advisory:
1) Solved Security Vulnerabilities:
- lighttpd
- net-snmp/libsnmp15/perl-SNMP
- fuse
- xpdf
2) Pending Vulnerabilities, Solutions, and Work-Arounds:
- samba
3) Authenticity Verification and Additional Information
______________________________________________________________________________
1) Solved Security Vulnerabilities
To avoid flooding mailing lists with SUSE Security Announcements for minor
issues, SUSE Security releases weekly summary reports for the low profile
vulnerability fixes. The SUSE Security Summary Reports do not list or
download URLs like the SUSE Security Announcements that are released for
more severe vulnerabilities.
Fixed packages for the following incidents are already available on our FTP
server and via the YaST Online Update.
- lighttpd
This update fixes a denial of service vulnerability in lighttpd
that can be triggered using slow requests.
(CVE-2010-0295: CVSS v2 Base Score: 5.0)
Affected Products: openSUSE 11.0-11.2, SLE10, SLE11
- net-snmp/libsnmp15/perl-SNMP
This update of net-snmp fixes the following bugs:
- truncated walk of hrSWRunPath
- crash when 64-bit counters wrap
- unknown host names in snmp traps
- sensitive host information disclosure
(CVE-2008-6123: CVSS v2 Base Score: 5.0)
Affected Products: openSUSE 11.2
- fuse
A race condition in fusermount allowed users to umount any
filesystem (CVE-2009-3297: CVSS v2 Base Score: 1.7).
Affected Products: SLE11
- xpdf
This update of xpdf fixes an integer overflow/signed-issue that may
lead to code execution.
(CVE-2009-4035: CVSS v2 Base Score: 6.8)
Affected Products: SLES9
______________________________________________________________________________
2) Pending Vulnerabilities, Solutions, and Work-Arounds
- samba
At the weekend a vulnerability (directory traversal) in the samba server
code was found that allows users (even guest) with write-access to a
share to use symbolic links to access files outside of the share.
The files can be read and modified with the privileges of the user
('nobody' for guest) only.
To disable the affected code path edit the [global] section in smb.conf
and add "wide links = no"
______________________________________________________________________________

This update of the openSUSE 11.2 kernel brings the kernel to version
2.6.31.12 and contains a lot of bug and security fixes.
CVE-2010-0299: The permission of the devtmpfs root directory
was incorrectly 1777 (instead of 755). If it was used, local
attackers could escalate privileges.
(openSUSE 11.2 does not use this filesystem by default).
CVE-2009-3939: The poll_mode_io file for the megaraid_sas driver in
the Linux kernel 2.6.31.6 and earlier has world-writable permissions,
which allows local users to change the I/O mode of the driver by
modifying this file.
CVE-2010-0007: ebtables was lacking a CAP_NET_ADMIN check, making
it possible for local unprivileged attackers to modify the network
bridge management.
CVE-2010-0003: An information leakage on fatal signals on x86_64
machines was fixed.
CVE-2009-4141: A race condition in fasync handling could be used by
local attackers to crash the machine or potentially execute code.
CVE-2010-0006: The ipv6_hop_jumbo function in net/ipv6/exthdrs.c in
the Linux kernel before 2.6.32.4, when network namespaces are enabled,
allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer
dereference) via an invalid IPv6 jumbogram.
CVE-2009-4536: drivers/net/e1000/e1000_main.c in the e1000 driver in
the Linux kernel 2.6.32.3 and earlier handles Ethernet frames that
exceed the MTU by processing certain trailing payload data as if it
were a complete frame, which allows remote attackers to bypass packet
filters via a large packet with a crafted payload.
CVE-2009-4538: drivers/net/e1000e/netdev.c in the e1000e driver in
the Linux kernel 2.6.32.3 and earlier does not properly check the
size of an Ethernet frame that exceeds the MTU, which allows remote
attackers to have an unspecified impact via crafted packets.
2) Solution or Work-Around
There is no known workaround, please install the update packages.
3) Special Instructions and Notes
Please reboot the machine after installing the update.
4) Package Location and Checksums
The preferred method for installing security updates is to use the YaST
Online Update (YOU) tool. YOU detects which updates are required and
automatically performs the necessary steps to verify and install them.
Alternatively, download the update packages for your distribution manually
and verify their integrity by the methods listed in Section 6 of this
announcement. Then install the packages using the command
rpm -Fhv <file.rpm>
to apply the update, replacing <file.rpm> with the filename of the
downloaded RPM package.

SUSE update packages are available on many mirror FTP servers all over the
world. While this service is considered valuable and important to the free
and open source software community, the authenticity and the integrity of
a package needs to be verified to ensure that it has not been tampered
with.
To subscribe, send an e-mail to
<opensuse-security+subscribe(a)opensuse.org>.
opensuse-security-announce(a)opensuse.org
- SUSE's announce-only mailing list.
Only SUSE's security announcements are sent to this list.
To subscribe, send an e-mail to
<opensuse-security-announce+subscribe(a)opensuse.org>.

______________________________________________________________________________
1) Problem Description and Brief Discussion
The SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 SP 2 kernel was updated to fix various
bugs and some security issues.
Following security issues were fixed:
CVE-2009-3556: Two sysfs files in the qla2xxx driver were world
writable, so users could change SCSI attributes of the qla2xxx driver.
(The e1000e driver is not included in the SLES 10 SP2 kernel, so
CVE-2009-4538 does not affect this kernel.)

SUSE update packages are available on many mirror FTP servers all over the
world. While this service is considered valuable and important to the free
and open source software community, the authenticity and the integrity of
a package needs to be verified to ensure that it has not been tampered
with.
To subscribe, send an e-mail to
<opensuse-security+subscribe(a)opensuse.org>.
opensuse-security-announce(a)opensuse.org
- SUSE's announce-only mailing list.
Only SUSE's security announcements are sent to this list.
To subscribe, send an e-mail to
<opensuse-security-announce+subscribe(a)opensuse.org>.

- acl
- libthai
2) Pending Vulnerabilities, Solutions, and Work-Arounds:
none
3) Authenticity Verification and Additional Information
______________________________________________________________________________
1) Solved Security Vulnerabilities
To avoid flooding mailing lists with SUSE Security Announcements for minor
issues, SUSE Security releases weekly summary reports for the low profile
vulnerability fixes. The SUSE Security Summary Reports do not list or
download URLs like the SUSE Security Announcements that are released for
more severe vulnerabilities.
Fixed packages for the following incidents are already available on our FTP
server and via the YaST Online Update.
- virtualbox-ose
This update of virtualbox-ose fixes a memory consumption bug in the
kernel code that can be used to allocate almost all physical memory
(CVE-2009-3940).
Affected Products: openSUSE 11.0, 11.1, 11.2
- NetworkManager-gnome
nm-applet connected to WPA2 Enterprise networks even if the specified CA
certificate file didn't exist (CVE-2009-4144).
When editing connections in nm-applet the connection object was exported via
DBus disclosing potentially sensitive information to local users
(CVE-2009-4145).
Affected Products: SLE11, openSUSE 11.0, 11.1, 11.2
- avahi
The avahi-daemon reflector could cause packet storms when reflecting
legacy unicast mDNS traffic (CVE-2009-0758).
Affected Products: SLE10-SP2, SLE10-SP3, SLE11, openSUSE 11.0, 11.1
- acl
the getfacl tool followed symbolic links in recursive (-R) mode even
if the --physical (-P) option was specified (CVE-2009-4411).
Affected Products: SLE11, openSUSE 11.0, 11.1
- libthai
very long strings could lead to a heap buffer overflow in libthai
(CVE-2009-4012).
Affected Products: SLE11, openSUSE 11.0, 11.1, 11.2
