Read NTFS (Solve)

Dear All Linuxer, I've solved my problem since my Suse 8.0 could read NTFS partition on Windows XP. So this is how I make it happened (regarding to Christian Schoepplein [schoeppi(a)suse.de, Silviu Marin-Caea [silviu(a)genesys.ro] & Stuart Powell [SPowell(a)pcsolutionsmn.com]): 1. I make directory on /mnt directory => mkdir /mnt/ntfs 2. I change the fstab file => /dev/hda1 /mnt/ntfs ntfs ro,noauto,user,umask=022 0 0 3. I restart the system. 4. I login as ordinarry user 5. I create shortcut on desktop to /dev/hda1, with Windows XP Name (what's a name??;-)) 6. So, everytime I click that WindowsXP Icon, Konqueror will display the windows XP partition. All files in that partition could copied on my document directory. Many Thanks to all off you, Hangga

Read NTFS

Hello linuxer, My system right now is dual booting, winXP and suse8.0. The winXP use NTFS partition. How can I set suse8.0, so it can read the ntfs partition from windows. I've tried to mounting the ntfs partition, but failed. I've heard that another new released distro - like mandrake 9.0 - could read ntfs partition. Please, give me step by step information, because I'm still newbie on linux Thanks a lot. Hangga

Hi, i just finished installing suse and so far all looks great. How ever i'm a very slow braille reader and want some speech output. I downloaded the rpm for mbrolla from the suse site but can't fi8ugre out how to get sbl to use it. Any ideas or comment would be very helpful. thanks much rob

How to enable telnet and ftp under version 8.0

Hello All, I recently insalled Suse 8.0 and was using Red_hat before.I do like Suse for its very good GUI. But the problem is i could telnet ot other systems and no one can telnet to mine.Sice i'm desktop is within intranet there will be no security issue if i enable this option.I tried from past 2 days but was unsuccessful in enabling this option.How to enable this option. driver problem for Ambient Technologies modem

Hi all, I have been trying to install the driver for my modem Ambient Technologies on linux suse 7.2 and I have found some problems. I followed the instructions written in readme.txt was extract from Intel-v92ham-440-S73.tgz. So I do the following steps: 1. login as ROOT 2. extract the archive into a directory with "tar -zxvf <archivename>.tgz" 3. cd into the directory it created. 4. Type: make clean 5. Type: make all 6. Type: make install When I type make all, the followind message is displayed: <-------------------------------------- usage: make [ham] or [536ep] or [clean] or or [install-ham] or [install-536ep] ---------------------------------------> So I typed 'make ham' command in my bash console and the following message is displayed: <------------------------------------------------------------------ if [ -a /boot/vmlinuz.version.h ]; then \ cp /boot/vmlinuz.version.h /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build/include/linux/version.h; ficp: cannot create regular file `/lib/modules/2.4.4-4GB/build/include/linux/version.h': No such file or directorymake: *** [ham] Error 1 -------------------------------------------------------------------> I checked the /lib/modules/2.4.4-4GB/build and it is a link to /usr/src/linux-2.4.4.SuSE, but linux-2.4.4.SuSe does not exist in my file system. Hi again :) I was curious where i get the new blinux from as i can't find any links on the english site for suse for it. There seems to be much more on the de site but I of course can't read it :) Also I was curious about the keysniff feature I see in the blinux.conf file. Is their a patch for the kernel 2.4.10 to enable this keysniff feature? thanks very much rob

Hi, i want to know how googd the support is for hardware synths in blinux? can I install using an hardware synth? How well does it track using speech? I'm a poor braille reader is it possible to use with more speech and less braille? Has blinux been updated any since suse 7.0? thanks much rob

system administration without yast

Hi all, I am running SuSE 7.2 with brltty 2.99.5, and have noticed that yast and yast2 are not acccessible. Is there a way to do system administration of the system without these tools? I know that on red-hat adduser can be used to add a new user, but that seems to be missing from SuSE. Any help would be appreciated. I am a real newbie at SuSE, in fact only had it since Friday, and can't get it installed on another pc.

Hi, Is there a way to use a powerbraille 40 with suSe 7.2? I am currently using the brltty program to accomplish this, but cannot use tools like yast2. Is there a way to get a braille display to track the cursor in yast2?

Hi, I have a BrailleTop from HANDITEC and I use it without any problem with suse 7.0 in the past. Today I wish to use it with BRLTTY directly. i have configured and compiled BRLTTY with Vario-HT driver but the BrailleTop does not work. Is someone here using a such display with Suse and then can he/she tell me what is the good driver to use ? Thank in advance. I recently purchased SuSE 7.3 and am trying to install it. The problem I'm having is with my Raid. I'm using the Promise Fasttrak100 tx4 and at installation boot it freezes while detecting the drives (gives me an part table error). Seems to me that I need to have the driver for the controler installed for SuSE 7.3 to proceed. I tried looking on Promise's site and they do have linux drivers (ft.o), but not for SuSE 7.3 only 7.1 and 7.2. I am setting up an email server for unix and I have found several open source or free ones but I was wondering about SuSE's email server. Is there a free version or can I get a discount for being a student. And what about the ftp directory with an email server it says its SuSE IMAP server I only see files for version 2.0 what is this?
