Hi Liste!
Windows herumschlagen.
Das macht mich bald tot.
MfG.: Daniel!
Well I have made some progress. I found the driver that my network card
needed. I just had it set under another name which didn't help too much.
So I have my network card working so I can access the net. Still have no
sound though. I tried to configure the sound card but it keeps saying that
an error has occurred and I should check to see if Alsa is properly
installed. So I installed a whole swack of soudn stuff including alsa but
it didn't seem to help the problem. What can I do to fix this. Another
question I have is I figured out how to send email but how the heck do I
receive messages. And how do I subscribe to and read newsgroups? I was
also wondering if there is a good icq port for linux. I love this OS a lot
and am really glad that I spent the ccash to buy it. I am trying to rig it
so all the stuff I do under windows is available under linux. This way I
don't have to use windows except in rare cases where things don't work
under linux yet. I like linux because I can work more quickly and the
system never crashes so I don't have to reboot all the time which I find
very annoying with windows. I figure once I get everything set up it will
be very good. Oh, and another thing I just thought of. How do I make
blinux show the braille cursor as just dots 7 and 8 blinking instead of a
full braille cell? Thanks a lot for your support and patience and
understanding and thanks for taking the time to help a poor newbie out. I
have learned quite a bit in the short time that I have been using linux
and I will keep finding things to read and play with it a bit more. At
least my internet access works under linux now so I can look up info a
little easier.
A very happy linux newbie,
Dave Csercsics
I have just looked through the suse drivers and it appears that my NIC is not listed. I haven/t checked the module disk so it
may be there but I am not sure. I can download the driver from 3com's website. My question is how the heck do I get the
driver onto my system after I download the driver to my hard disk. Another question I have is how do I check to see if my
sound works or not, and if it does not work how do I get linux to use my sound card. I have a soundblaster live which is
deffinitely supported by linux since this computer is like a month old or maybe less.
I have suse installed and it is working great. How do I get it to work with my cable connection? I have a 3com etherlink
xl 3c 900b 10mb ehternet card and my cable provider is @home. Also, is it po0ssible to get suse-blinux to use the US
braille translation tables? I am kind of a linux newbieas I just started using the OS a couple days ago but it is nice to
program in and it is very very quick. In some hways a lot easier to handle than windows. Also how does suse handle
things like floppies and cdroms. I tried to mount a floppy the other day and it said that vfat and fat were both invalid file
systems. I find this odd since my windows partition is a vfat filesystem and linux will let me access that with no problems.
Thanks for any help with this. I know it's probably stupid of me not to know how this works, but then I have only used
linux for like 2 days and I have never used unix at all before that. The only OS's I have used before linux are dos and
windows. Windows crashes too much and is a pain to reinstall when you are blind because the install screens won't talk.
I picked linux because I need to program in c++ for school and I can't have my machine go down in the m,iddle of trying
to get a computer science degree. That is one reason and another is that I find windows a little slower to access and
generally not all that reliable. So I will learn linuxz and use that mostly now I think.
Hi!
