Hi Leute,
ich habe einen Weiteren Link für Linuxbücher gefunden. Schaut mal vorbei
unter:
http://infosec.cs.pku.edu.cn/~tly/unixbook/

betreiben. Hat da jemand erfahrungen?
Vielen dank für eure Antworten.

Hi.
2 Questions regarding the installer. Firstly, is there any comprehensive
documentation on the installer when used in conjunction with a Braille
terminal? Secondly, when I run the installer, I get no text output on my
monitor when a Braille display is detected. Is this normal? I thought
some kind of redirection may be going on here, but it seems strange to me
if that is the case. It also has a huge disadvantage, in as much as I
can't always track the installer properly with my Alva 340, and it would
maybe help to have sighted help. But, since there is no text being
displayed on my monitor, that isn't possible.
Kind regards, Gordon Smith.

Hi.
I am still struggling with the Braille interface in the Yast2 installation
program for SuSE. I can't seem to move around the installation dialogs
properly. The keys I am trying to use are: Tab to advance to the next
dialog, up/down arrow to select items in list boxes and radio
buttons. Space to highlight an option in a radio button. Enter to select
the next button. However, the Braille display is not tracking the changes
on-screen, and parts of the display appear to be getting complete
garbled. Also, is there a way to change the Braille translation table from
the German 8-dot default, (which I find extremely difficult to read), to
English 6-dot? I'm using an Alva-Braille ABT340. The display seems
responsive enough, and is initialising reliably now. Finally, wen I boot
into the installation, I'm getting some sort of message about my computer
not supporting the graphical installation, and about needing a minimum of
64M of RAM for this. It also says something like as a fallback, the
textual front-end will be used to guide me through the installation. Is
this normal for users of Braille, or could it be that SuSE doesn't like my
graphics card? Any help appreciated.
Kind regards, Gordon Smith.

Subject: Re: [suse-blinux] Installing with an Alva Braille Display.
Hi again. I have the Alva working now with the installation process, and
it is seeing it on Com2 every time. One more question, if I may. I only
have a 40-character display. Therefore, obviously, I am only seeing half
of each line. When I press the key on the Alva which usually advances to
the next 40 characters, I am still missing important parts of the displayed
line. Is there a way I can move smoothly around the screen? But I am
encouraged greatly by the fact that at least I am now seeing some response
from the terminal.
Kind regards, Gordon Smith.

alva displays only supported on the serialport

any hardware-synth is supported
standard is apollo2 and infovox
you can modify the config-files for any hardware-synth
you only need the controlcodes for it
mbrola is a softspeech via soundcard
ok, try it with the serial connection

Hi. Has anybody had any success installing SuSE with an Alva Braille
terminal? I can't even try this operating system, about which I heard so
many good reports that I went out and bought it. I can't get my Alva to be
recognised on boot-up. Is this a known issue, and or is there a
solution? I'm excited about what I've read and heard about SuSE, I think
it has a lot of potential for the visually impaired user, but until I can
install it myself, I can't really recommend it to my clients. I would also
be interested to know whether there is a speech package which will work
with SuSE? People have mentioned Speakup and EmacSpeak, but more info
would be welcome and appreciated.
Kind regards, Gordon Smith.
