Order of eth0 & eth1 in SuSE 9.3

Hi, In SuSE 9.2 the on-mother-board ethernet became eth1 *after* I plugged in a pci 3COM ethernet card (which took over the eth0 position). In 9.3 the motherboard ethernet remains eth0 even after I plug in the 2nd network card. I need to make sure that the order of sensing the Network cards is such the the PCI 3COM card is sensed *before* any other network cards. Can anyone tell me how I can achieve this? (or point me to some documentation). TIA, Zoltan

gtk.h not found error

Hi, I'm getting an odd error here, maybe there's a simple answer. Though the devel rpms are installed, when I'm trying to compile a gtk app, I'm getting a gtk/gtk.h: No such file or directory error. Checking my $LD_LIBRARY_PATH I notice that all I get is this: /usr/ lib/fglrx/lib:/usr/lib/fglrx/lib:/usr/X11R6/lib whereas the ld.so.conf has a lot more than that. Did the fglrx rpm screw up my ld path? Ideas how to fix? D'Arcy

PCI BAR1 register

Greetings I'm working on a driver for a PCI card. During the installation, I read the BAR0 and BAR1 registers two different ways and I get two different results for BAR1. pci_resource_start(0) = A pci_read_config_dword(0x10) = A pci_resource_start(1) = B pci_read_config_dword(0x14) = B+8 Any ideas anyone? I've tried this on two systems, same hardware. Kernels 2.6.5-7.155 and 2.6.11.xxx. x86_64 flavo(u)rs. TIA & cheers

Asathor doesn't like icecream

I set up icecream on my network. I have one box running the scheduler. All the participating systems all have icecream for the netname. The scheduler is not the same box on which I run the make command. That box is, however one of the boxes running iceccd. The scheduler only seems to use two of the four boxes I have running iceccd. These are the two highest performing boxes, but I'm not sure that's why they are the only ones being used. It seems to favor the second best box. That is, if there's only one job, it will send it across the network to a slower box than the one where the make job was started. Why wold icecream not use some boxes, and use others? -- Regards, Steven

what is current X font?

Hi, I see the following X Window functions: XLoadQueryFont() XSetFont() XUnloadFont() XFreeFont() and of course one uses a XFontStruct to hold the info. But, does anybody know how to load a font structure with the values of the current font. i.e. How do I find out what the current font is? I only want Xlib or Xt functions. Thanks for hints, Colin

checking for qsort... no configure: error: No qsort library function. configure: error: could not configure Berkeley DB I have db-4.3.27, db-devel-4.3.27, db1-devel-1.85-89, db1-1.85-89 installed. Before I upgraded from 9.2 to 9.3, KDevelop was building with the latest Berkely DB. Anybody know what's wrong here? -- Regards, Steven

Cygwin : How-To cut & paste

I wonder whether there is someone who has some experience at installing and using Cygwin on a Windows/XP box to run graphics applications remotely on a Linux platform ... I did that recently. When I run Cygwin X-server it pops up an xterm taht I use to X-connect to the remote Red Hat machine. Luckily I can run remotely all the graphic applications I need and have them display on the Windows box sitting on my desk ... But there is a typical X feature that I cannot get. It's the common cut & paste that does not work even inside the single Cygwin xterm... Even ohn the Window machine some sort of cut/copy & paste is possible through the drop-down menus fired up by clicking the mouse rightmost button Can anyone help me with taht , please ? Maura

svn ps ignore "semantic.cache" . rejected by server?

I'm using an svn configuration very close to the one described in /usr/share/doc/packages/subversion/README.SuSE. I saw in the online documentation that I could set an ignore property on a directory, and it vaguely suggested that this should apply recursively to the subdirectories. So I did `svn ps ignore "semantic.cache" .' on the root of my current project. When I tried to commit it with `svn ci -m "set ignore semantic.cacne on ."', I received the message: "Sending . svn: Commit failed (details follow): svn: Your file or directory '' is probably out-of-date svn: The version resource does not correspond to the resource within the transaction. Either the requested version resource is out of date (needs to be updated), or the requested version resource is newer than the transaction root (restart the commit)." What I want to do is apply this property to the entire project tree. I see there is a way to create a per-user ignore list in the ~/.subversion directory, but that really isn't what I want. xemacs question

I frequently use emacs and xemacs for development. Recently, I found that on xemacs, when receiving diagnostics, the display window displays the raw VT200 escape sequences. GNU Emacs does not display the raw sequences. Obviously this makes xemacs somewhat unusable for development. db, db1, db4.0, db4.1 What do I really need?

On the SuSE 9.2 DVD there are 4 different versions of Berkeley DB. Add to that, at one point I installed my own because the ones available on the version of SuSE I was running at the time didn't support the software I was trying to build. Using YaST I removed all the db versions that didn't result in a conflict. That left me with db1, and db (which I believe is db4.2.x). I have the development rpms for both the db1 and db installed. Has anybody encountered problems or conflicts that I'm likely to run into by removing the other versions? I know I probably need to rebuild Emacs, Xemacs, Qt4-snapshot, KDevelop, and r++ pre-prerelease. But other than that, I don't beleve I have anything I've built against Berkeley DB. -- Regards, Steven

Hi. In my program i am trying to sort a deque using STL sort algorithm: deque<double> q; /* fill q with some doubles*/ ... /* sort */ sort(q.begin(), q.end()); The above works OK. The problem is that now i want to have the following deque: struct rrTask { double C; int tid; }; deque<rrTask> q; /* fill q with some rrTasks*/ rrTask rt; rt.C = A_DOUBLE; rt.tid = AN_INT; q.push_back(rt); /* Try to sort q !!!*/ sort(q.begin(), q.end(), rt.C); The above seems to be wrong. My intention is to sort q using rt.C field as the sort key. What is the right (and easiest) way to do this? Thanks.

svn GUI clients CVS emulation, etc.

I'm thinking about moving my CVS repository over to SVN. There are a few reasons I'm hesitant. First off, I don't know much about it, so I will have to take the time to learn. In addition, I have tools that currently do a decent job of supporting CVS. For example Emacs, and Cervisia. The Cervisia Konqueror mode is especially nice. AFAIK, Cervisia doesn't support SVN, and I don't know if or how well Emacs will. KDevelop has been all over the place with version control support (I run the bleeding edge), so I have no idea what the current status of that is. Does anybody know of a good SVN GUI client similar to Cervisia? I believe Emacs is actually served out from an SVN server with some kind of CVS emulation wrapper. I usually would use a \n to tell my shell script to line feed but that does not work using Red Hat/Suse /bin/bash. How can I tell my /bin/bash shell script to \n line feed without doing an echo " " > $outfile? TIA!
