Specifically I am interested in Django on Suse... all python... and would
like to ask some questions... right list?

Hi,
Is it safe to link an application against libraries compiled
with a different compiler? For example, to compile Linpack
using gcc, and then to link with static libraries
(libacml_mp.a and libmpich.a) compiled with PGI.
My presumption is that it is safe to do so, since
objects/libraries in Linux (SLES9) must follow a certain
format (ELF?). But with my shallow knowledge in compilers,
it's better to ask to this list.
Regards,
Verdi

Hello to all.
I'm using openSuse (Suse 10.2).
I'm interrested in having an environment of cross compiling using some old
versions of GCC, specially GCC 2.95 and GCC 3.4.
Does anyone knows a good tutorial, or build instructions to set these
environments?
Any clue will be a good help.
Thanks to all.
Best regards.

Hi.
Thx. man. Greate links ... especial first.
Im suse 10.0 my mouse go crazy in moments.
I get message in my system log: psmouse.c: bad data from KBC - bad parity
Then I found after "google-search" that error about I wrote above come
from bad
kernel code. That`s only reason why I should to compile and install new
kernel.
I am obstinate and I wan`t to lose my suse 10.0 because I have a lot
good software
installed on it.
I will try with this documentation and suse kernel rpm to resolve my
problem.
This problem is serious because mouse make unpredictable actions.
Thx. again.

Hi.
I need help.
I have SUSE Linux 10.0 with kernel 2.6.13.
Now I want to update kernel to last stable version.
I need answer on next question:
1. Can I use last kernel version from official linux kernel site for update?
2. When I get kernel, does I need todo some special action before update?
3. I found on net some introduction for update kernel. Does exist some
tutorial for manual SUSE update kernel?
p.s. I must manual update kernel beacuse I don`t have Internet at home.
Tnx so much.

Hello
My name is Lara Thynne and I am a PhD candidate at Deakin University
Australia. I am currently researching the boundary between work and
leisure activities directly related to the open source community and
open source program development.
As part of this I am running a survey at the following address.
https://dcarf.deakin.edu.au/surveys/oss/
The survey is completely confidential and looks at your views and
motivations to use Open Source software and to participate in the
community.
It will only take a five to ten minutes to complete and your contact
details will not be recorded. You can withdraw your participation at
any stage.
I sincerely apologize for the spammish nature of this e-mail - I
don't mean to abuse this list. I am trying to collect responses
from as many open source developers and users as possible and a
mailing list like can be the only way to reach many developers.
Thanks again
Lara
P.S The program that I am using is open source, of course
(www.phpsurveyor.org)!

Hello,
Thanks for the help. We mainly run scientific code
that is written by scientists rather than programmers
and our machines are *usually* set up to be fairly
forgiving of progamming style.
"ulimit -s" shows that the stack size is limited to
8Mb on the 10.2 nodes and unlimited on the 10.0 nodes.
Hence the program was crashing when it tried to
allocate an 8Mb buffer on th 10.2 nodes.
Now I just have to work out why the upgrade to 10.2
changed the limits.
Cheers.

Hello,
I am having problems running a program under Suse 10.2
that works on 10.0 when I increase the size of a
buffer from 4MB to 8MB. The test program immediately
segv faults on entry into the main function under 10.2
but runs fine on 10.0.
I have cluster of nodes all identical with 2 x dual
core AMD64, 8GB RAM. The Suse 10.0 machines have
uname -a "Linux d801 2.6.13-15.13-smp #1 SMP Tue Nov
28 13:43:50 UTC 2006 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux"
Suse 10.2 machines have "Linux d803
2.6.18.2-34-default #1 SMP Mon Nov 27 11:46:27 UTC
2006 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux"
What I have tried:
Program compiled on suse10.0
(gcc (GCC) 4.0.2 20050901 (prerelease) (SUSE Linux))
* Runs on 10.0 fine.
* Crashes on 10.2
Program compiled on suse10.2
(gcc (GCC) 4.1.2 20061115 (prerelease) (SUSE Linux))
* Runs on 10.0 fine.
* Crashes on 10.2
Sample gdb output (for 10.2 compile binary):
---
(gdb) run
Starting program: test-x86_64
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x0000000000400565 in main (argc=Cannot access memory
at address 0x7fffc2f9e84c
) at test.c:23
---
where line 23 is first line of main function.
Compile command for failed program:
gcc -O0 -pedantic -Wall -ggdb -BUFFER_SIZE=2*1024*1024
-o test-x86_64 test.c
Compile command for working program:
gcc -O0 -pedantic -Wall -ggdb -DBUFFER_SIZE=1024*1024
-o test-x86_64 test.c
Anyone have any ideas?
