This is both before and after the recent security patch release of 1.4.2_06 (RPM package version java2-1.4.2-129.10). You should look for evidence of a JVM crash in your ~/.xsession-errors file. That may offer some significant clues about what's happening. It's possible that errors may be logged in other files, as well. I am making a lib that process statistics/odds It does a TON of conditional processing and makes extensive use of STL. I used to be able to process about 1200 sets of numbers / second. I added a bunch code and comments all over the place for debugging information out to the console. When running in debug it is EXTREMELY slow, which is acceptable. When running without the debug statements it is now at about 300 sets/second. (I added a bunch of complication and recursive functions which slowed it down). I had setup a bunch of if statements to see if I'm in debug mode or not so it doesn't write out to the console if not. By commenting out all the if statements in one recusive function gives me about 100 sets/second more. my question is this is there a way to define "//" to be replaced? e.g. // how it is now if(debug) qDebug("this"); // what I'd like #define DEBUG_PRINT // //#define DEBUG_PRINT qDebug DEBUG_PRINT("this"); If I use #ifdef 's then the code is hard to read e.g. for(x) { for(y) { for(z) { #ifdef DEBUG qDebug("here I am"); #endif somestatment(blah); andanotherone(blah); if(somehting) { #ifdef DEBUG qDebug("here I am again"); #endif conditional(blah); } } } } any help would be appreciated B-)

I'm installing into a OS390 Guest. I actually boot up on a card punch. SLES 9 ISO mount structure, not sure?

This is my SuSe 9 mount structure; I get all the way to the point of choosing software and I get the following; any clues please and TIA! STL Vector Sort

This should be pretty simple. I can't for the life of me find the answer on google or remember to look through my books at home. Figure I'll just ask here and see what happens. I have a vector or ints or unsigned ints vector<unsigned int> vec vec.push_back(1); vec.push_back(1); vec.push_back(1); And I want to sort it Descending. When I call std::sort(vec.begin(), vec.end()); it sorts ascending. What would I add for the third parameter to get it to sort descending instead? B-)

Ah, I tried const vector<unsigned int>::iterator; instead of vector<unsigned int>::const_iterator; good guess. Your solution makes sense. I have a fuction that takes a vector as a parameter. I want to be able to have a default value so I'm not required to pass anything if I don't need to. I pass vectors by reference because of some things I need to do with it that pointers don't do. anyway I can define my function like this func(vector<unsigned int> foo = vector<unsigned int>()); and everthing is fine, however if I define like this, func(vector<unsigned int>& foo = vector<unsigned int>()); I get error: invalid type `std::vector<unsigned int, std::allocator<unsigned int> >' for default argument to ` std::vector<unsigned int, std::allocator<unsigned int> >&' I am running SuSE 9.1 2.6.5-7.145-default This syntax works with Borland 6 windoze (disclaimer: no, not mine, co-worker's) the only work-around I've come up with is to declare a global variable vector<unsigned int> g_empty_vec; then use that func(vector<unsigned int>& foo = g_empty_vec); I'd like something a little cleaner if possible.... unsigned ints as parameter to function

I have a function say like this func(unsigned int foo) { unsigned int i, retval = 0; for (i = 0; i < foo; i++) { retval++; } return retval; } and I call it with val = func(4 - 3); Seems like gcc WILL pass the -1 to func, and func just get stuck in a loop becase i starts at 0 (which is alread greater than a negative number) This not what I would have expected. Is this by design?
