This is really not the correct forum, you should send to suse-linux-e@suse.com That said: It has nothing to do with sendmail. Your hostname, lpar, is not listed in a public DNS database. This would need to be done by the DNS admins at dori.com.

Hallo, I m using SuSE 8.0, and i have sendmail configured so i can send emails using sendmail, and the received email will have the adress hikha@lpar.dori.com in the <from> field but when i try to send an email to this adress (hikha@lpar.dori.com) from a gmail account (for example) it fails and it bounces and i receive the email telling that:
This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently: hikha@lpar.dori.com

We suppose here that the domaine lpar.dori.com is already registred so when i tape: $> host lpar.dori.com lpar.dori.com has adress xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx $> host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.IN.ADDR.ARPA domain name pointer lpar.dori.com
what i have to do in order to send emails to hikha@lpar.dori.com and to retrieve them. ? must i configure a pop3 server or what ?
thanks (you can reply me to: sos_linux@hotmail.com)

so what? Your host, node06.lrap.polymtl.ca is not in DNS and host lrap.polymtl.ca is not in DNS. It is very possible that polymtl.ca does not expose its customers' host names. This is from my work host. gaf@sauron:~> host node06.lrap.polymtl.ca Host node06.lrap.polymtl.ca not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)
This is from my home host using a comcast DNS. gaf@gaf:~> host node06.lrap.polymtl.ca node06.lrap.polymtl.ca has address 132.207.162.106 The bottom line is that the problem is still a DNS problem, not a sendmail problem per se. -- Jerry Feldman <gaf@blu.org> Boston Linux and Unix user group http://www.blu.org PGP key id:C5061EA9 PGP Key fingerprint:053C 73EC 3AC1 5C44 3E14 9245 FB00 3ED5 C506 1EA9
