Hi, I’m operating some mirrors in Lisbon, Portugal and I would like to add openSUSE to the list of public mirrors available at this server. I don’t know if my previous email got somehow lost. Mirror URL https://mirror.leitecastro.com/opensuse It’s available via rsync, http(s) and ipv4 and ipv6 enabled. This mirror is connected at 20Gbps and with a generous 8TB NVMe cache. cdn.o.o provides bad mirror to SE USA

I don't know how to tell which one, but I did a TW zypper ref using baseurl=http://cdn.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/repo/oss instead of baseurl=http://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/repo/oss and the proposal included openSUSE-release 20240223 instead of 20240225. Switching repo file to the latter and another ref got me 20240225. This was not the first time cdn was feeding me oldies. I'm in FL and often find European mirrors are better performers e.g. for fetching .isos but not infrequently noticing sluggishness during ups & dups with both Leap and TW/Slowroll. -- Evolution as taught in public schools is, like religion, based on faith, not based on science. Hi, we have recently moved our stage.openSUSE.org server into a new location, where it got a new IP-address. If you used hardcoded IPs to rsync, these are the new ones: stage.opensuse.org has address 195.135.223.228 stage.opensuse.org has IPv6 address 2a07:de40:b250:131:10:151:131:32 If you allowed repopush only for our old IP, outgoing traffic from stage.opensuse.org currently gets randomly NATed to 195.135.223.32/29 Ciao Bernhard M. Question regarding cdn and mirror

Hi mirror list, As we already know, openSUSE implements cdn now. Could someone explain to me what the impact of the implementation is to our mirror? AFAIK cdn will maintain the newest copy from one legitimate source, I imagine this would be the mirror in openSUSE infrastructure. If it is the case anyone will use the closest cdn rather than the mirror. My understanding might be wrong. Looking at the statistics in the mirror that I manage the traffic is still high, most likely the TX amount is more than 100GB daily, sometimes more than 200GB. Thousand daily hits and hundred visitors. Anyone see the significant traffic difference before and after the cdn implementation? Thanks! -- Edwin (repo.opensuse.id; twrepo.opensuse.id)

Leap 15.5 GM build is already available for sync

Hello team, we've just published the Leap 15.5 Gold Master to the download-o-o prod + stage. We've started to decouple image availability and marketing annoucement in Leap 15.3 as part of release retrospective after identifying some issues with availability on mirrors. The only difference is that I will change current and latest symlinks only on Wednesday. The marketing annoucement of the new Leap 15.5 release is happening next Wednesday 12:00 UTC on June 7th. I use uyuni to sync opensuse repos and a collegue is also trying to update an OpenSuse server today. They are both failing with similar messages. FYI Novell Hungary http://ftp.novell.hu/pub/mirrors/ftp.opensuse.org/opensuse has been unreachable for quite a long time (perhaps more than a year now) and FSN.hu ftp.fsn.hu/pub/linux/distributions/opensuse will cease its operation on the first of May 2023. Besides being quite slow I am getting the following error (multiple times with different packages and repositories such as TW oss, hw): - Download (curl) error for 'https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/ hardware/openSUSE_Tumbleweed/x86_64/bolt-0.9.5-22.7.x86_64.rpm': Error code: Curl error 92 Error message: HTTP/2 stream 0 was not closed cleanly: PROTOCOL_ERROR (err 1) Will try again... The requests are sent to the closest mirror based on distance (lat/long) from IPs, so, as Brazil is the biggest country and has the most openSUSE users, requests are not leaving the country that easily. The south of Brazil is now covered by a mirror in Porto Alegre (RS) and Florianópolis (SC) before these users could go to São Paulo or even Uruguay. This leaves your mirror for most likely Uruguayan users and depending on the freshness of the data, users can still be sent somewhere else (RS, SC, or SP in Brazil due to distance) in case the files are not found in your mirror. I also noticed that many users are on Tumbleweed in SA, and your mirror is red because the data is not fresh. To solve that you should sync more frequently, maybe every 2h or even a shorter period. This is just a theory for now, but Andrii may be able to dig some metrics from our servers. new stage-main-repos.o.o - action wanted

Dear mirror admin, TLDR: 1. If you use 15.4 / rsync-3.2.3 with --delay-updates, beware of https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1204538 2. If you mirror only our openSUSE distribution, history, source, tumbleweed, or update directories, you can get them faster now. If you need debug, ports, or repositories: keep rsyncing from stage.o.o as before. What was the problem? stage.o.o regularly filled the available network bandwidth of 4 GBit/s and also had limited disk-IO. Thus much of the time, half of the rsync processes on stage.o.o got below 3MByte/s of updates. At that speed, getting a moderately sized 40GByte Tumbleweed snapshot out could easily take 4 hours. What is the solution? SUSE sponsored a new machine stage3 aka stage-main-repos.o.o that has fast SSDs and a 10G uplink. I have it setup with the same rsyncd config as the main stage.o.o. To use it as a mirror admin, you just need to pull from rsync://stage-main-repos.opensuse.org/ Please only use the stage-main-repos name, because the service might move to a different host next year. Note, that the "ports" and "repositories" dirs on stage-main-repos.o.o have only a small collection (150GB each) of repos that are more likely to be requested by users. Stay on stage.o.o, if you want the full thing. stage-main-repos.o.o will have below 5 minutes delay to pick up first new files and will ensure consistent repo state at all times. Besides this, I saw with 'mtr' that during some hours of the day, trans-ocean links were saturated (i.e. high jitter at New York ae0-3356.nyk10.core-backbone.com hop). If you notice such network bottleneck, you could find another regional mirror to rsync from them. Also, rsync://provo-mirror.opensuse.org/ is available as main staging point for the Americas, but with less bandwidth. Furthermore, I added a line about how the --ignore-existing rsync option can help compensate downsides of --delay-updates in https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Mirror_howto It might get even better once https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1204538 is fixed. kind regards Bernhard M. openSUSE Leap 15.3 repos were republished boo#1202116

Hello mirror-admins The recent change you might notice on openSUSE Leap 15.3 (GA) repositories is expected. We've recently republished Leap 15.3 GA repositories with the original GA content, which was previously overwritten by the latest Leap 15.3 Quarterly Update). The 15.3/iso directory was not changed and contains updated images from the latest Quarterly Update (QU) as expected. We decided not to touch GA repositories anymore as updating made of the original GA rpms that received updates not available (e.g., GA kernel boo#1202116) and broke some of the workflows that were expecting their availability. Updates will remain available as part of the /update repositories as they should be. GA reposistories will keep only GA content with the exception of/iso directory as we plan to keep refreshing isos for 15.4 via Quarterly Updates as needed. Running a containerized mirror

Hi, I've been running a mirror [1] for over a year inside containers (with Swarm). I cleaned up everything and I'm ready to share it with everyone that is interested in it. The Dockerfiles are on GitHub [2] and the images are on DockerHub [3]. The Swarm/Compose files are also on GitHub [4], but you would need to change them to your needs (replacing the domain name at least). Feel free to test it. Report any issues that you may find preferably on GitHub. Deploying this to Kubernetes is also possible, but no examples are provided at this time. Hello, As mirror.verinomi.com have been synced, I was surprised by slow download speeds in Turkey. When I check with my (fixed) IP 31.223.0.183 , download.opensuse.org resolves to 195.135.221.134 and not 193.162.43.250 ( mirror.verinomi.com ) which provides very good download/update speeds. I couldn't find any category on bugzilla so I am reporting here Have a nice weekend Ilgaz Öcal

How to setup tumbleweed mirror?

Hi folks, I noticed that when syncing the opensuse-full-with-factory rsync modules from stage.opensuse.org, the "update" directory contains the following symlinks. update/tumbleweed -> /srv/ftp/pub/opensuse/repositories/openSUSE:/Factory:/Update/standard update/tumbleweed-non-oss -> tumbleweed The path /srv/ftp/pub/opensuse/repositories/openSUSE:/Factory:/Update/standard does not exist on the system and therefore update/tumbleweed becomes unavailable in the mirror. I checked a few mirrors and the path returns 404 although the tumbleweed directory appears under "update". See: https://opensuse.mirror.ac.za/update/tumbleweed http://ftp.rz.uni-wuerzburg.de/linux/opensuse/update/tumbleweed-non-oss http://ftp.tu-chemnitz.de/pub/linux/opensuse/update/tumbleweed However, the update/tumbleweed path is fine on some mirrors, especially those managed by openSUSE Heroes. I did check /backup on pontifex but unfortunatelly it was only for content of /var. If you feel confident that there could be more request like this one, you should probably write a proposal to [1]admin(a)opensuse.org to keep checksum files for e.g. 14 days or similar. I can imagine that this might be quite demanding feature in regions with low bandwidth, where people want to be sure-sure that their image was corrupted before downloading a new one. But then TW might not be the best fit in given environment. Dominique do you have thoughts on this one? Leap could use similar approach for quarterly updates. However, it is possible that users use a closer mirror directly to avoid the known problems with high latency towards Nuremberg. But only after a significant delay (hours/maybe a full day) the new hash files appear.
