Hi heroes, I have made a pull request for the new theme/skin of wiki. You can find some screenshots in the description. https://github.com/openSUSE/wiki/pull/9 The theme itself is based on Bootstrap and responsive. However, some page content, especially wide tables will break the layout. I will work on a solution later. Hi Just want to inform you about the things that happened around our mirror infrastructure in the last days.... First some Statistics: * 74 billion file entries in the mirrorbrain database * 43 mirrors for openSUSE-Tumbleweed-DVD-i586-Current.iso * 31 mirrors for openSUSE-Tumbleweed-DVD-i586-Snapshot20170724-Media.iso * 62 mirrors for openSUSE-Leap-42.3-DVD-x86_64.iso * 73 mirrors for the Leap 42.3 oss repository * down to 4 open mirror tickets in progress.opensuse.org (3 of them really mirror related, feedback pending) * 207 active mirrors worldwide Done/doing: * cleanup of the apache configuration on download.o.o, which brought back the tumbleweed mirrors and removed old stuff (11.X, 12.X and also redirected all 13.X ) * finally removed 11.X, 12.X and 13.X from download.o.o - ~750G more space on download.o.o and our mirrors * rsync module cleanup on widehat and pontifex3 - the 13.X cleanup gave also more room for "other" stuff in the "hotstuff" modules * the DB-slave of mirrorbrain was out of sync with the DB-master - so the mirrorbrain database used by apache (which is using the read-only slave) was outdated. I most definitely am logged in, but did the logout-login sequence suggested with the same report when I tried to save my edit. It has multiple metos (one from me including a traceroute). zypper just took 17 minutes to fetch 56MiB kernel-default-4.11.8-2.2.x86_64.rpm using download.opensuse.org as the repo baseurl. [heroes] Wiki updates

Hello, sometimes plans change while you are working on them ;-) The plan for tonight was to move and update some of the localized wikis. Things worked better and faster than expected, and in the end we (Max, Theo and I) moved *all 18 localized wikis* from Provo to Nuremberg and updated them to MediaWiki 1.27 :-) This means *all* openSUSE wikis are now running on MediaWiki 1.27 and support the features announced for the english wiki last week. For probably obvious reasons, I didn't have time to change the <feed> tags to the new <rss> tags. I'll do that in the next days, but I won't complain if someone is faster and does it in some of the wikis ;-) There are two exceptions: old-en.o.o and old-de.o.o, which contain the historical content of the old german and english wiki before they were rebuilt from scratch some years ago. I have the data for them, but didn't update them yet because a) 18 wikis are enough for an evening ;-) and b) they were still running MediaWiki 1.15.1 (released in 2009!) which will make the update "a bit" more interesting[tm]. I didn't want to do this after midnight ;-) For those who are interested in statistics: - moving 18 wikis in about 6 hours means about 20 minutes per wiki - can someone beat this? ;-) [1] [2] - today's move came with about 500 lines on IRC to coordinate everything - this helped to keep the read-only time of each wiki short - I'd guess on average each wiki was read-only for 30 minutes (again, can someone beat this? ;-) - we moved about 10 GB of uploaded files and 1.6 GB of mysql dumps today (which was sometimes "funny" because the server in Provo is limited to a 10 MBit connection) Regards, Christian Boltz PS: I plan to make a news.o.o article and maybe also an announcement mail based on the above, so if you notice anything that should be changed, added or removed, please tell me ;-) [1] I still can't believe this myself ;-) [2] Of course this was only possible with "some" preparation (having all directories, empty databases etc. ready). Hello, I'd like to inform everybody that I moved the following two services behind the new openvpn: - gitlab.opensuse.org: both https and ssh are fully functional for the openvpn clients. It is not available publicly any more as it used to be. There is also a gitlab.infra.opensuse.org domain, which properly redirects to gitlab.opensuse.org - freeipa.infra.opensuse.org: https is fully functional for the openvpn clients, haven't tested its CLI yet. Hi As the maintenance window tomorrow might result in some outages for all openSUSE services in Nuremberg, I decided at short notice to setup an additional machine for status.opensuse.org on the cluster in Provo. The new machine "status2.opensuse.org" is already up and running, the DB is cloned. I'm currently waiting to get the ports opened in the firewall. After that, we should be able to switch the DNS alias status.opensuse.org from status1 to status2 - and should be done. I just tested very roughly (as it's not so easy to test without network ;-) - and did no "redundant" setup (sync between the two nodes) - so please inform me personally if you are doing changes on the new status2 host, as I need to sync them manually for now. While writing it, I noticed that it doesn't make too much sense to split it into two articles, so Theo and I changed the plan and think it's better to publish the text below before the update (to announce the read-only time/downtime) and update it when the move is done. (Hopefully with the text "Update: The english openSUSE wiki has been moved and updated successfully. If you encounter any issue, please let us know by mail to admin(a)opensuse.org.") Reason is the move of the wiki from the old Provo cluster to the new Nuremberg opensuse network. Hello, it looks like someone broke login2.o.o - it always gives me [1] The username/password combination you entered is invalid. Please try again, or recover it from here. (THIS IS DAFFY). This affects en-test.o.o, progress, and maybe more services using it. It will also affect en.o.o starting with the move tomorrow. Another problem is that I still don't have SSH access the wiki VMs, which will make the wiki move and update tomorrow interesting[tm]. I don't care if I get openVPN access or some simple, old-style port forwardings on hydra, but I will need SSH access (or, if everything else fails, a good IRC-to-SSH relay ;-) to do the wiki move and upgrade. Needless to say that the deadline for both issues is in about 19 hours ;-) @Theo: Please coordinate with Max where he can/should put the database dump and tarball with uploaded files so that I can access it. (Last time, he uploaded them to the "old" test-wiki VM - that's still an option if you make sure that I can access that VM.) Hello, I'd like to summarize the schedule for the wiki update. Those who joined the last heroes meeting should already know it ;-) - beginning of next week (maybe tuesday evening, but I have to check this with Max and Theo): update the english wiki - let people do the real testing (aka "using/editing") in the updated english wiki - not too many people test on en-test.o.o, so if something is broken, we'll only find out after updating the production wiki - a week later: start updating the other wikis until a) all are done ;-) or b) 4 days before the Leap 42.3 release Update means (without including all the technical details): - the to-be-updated wiki will be set to read-only mode - Max fetches a database dump and the uploaded files - I import files and database dump to the wiki VM, update the database scheme etc. - when everything is ready, Theo switches over the DNS entry This means that the wiki will be read-only for some hours. @Ludwig and Doug: I know the 42.3 release is pretty soon. This is why I CC you. If one of you sees a problem with the above plan, please tell me ;-) @Doug: We'd like to have an article on news.o.o before the wiki update (announcing the downtime/read-only time), and an "update done" afterwards that also describes the changes and new features (based on the "What's new?" section on https://en-test.opensuse.org/Main_Page). An alternative would be to include the "What's new?" part already in the article that announces the read-only time, and update that article when the update is done. (Doug, which way do you prefer?) I'll draft the news article (probably tomorrow) and send it to you for review. Note: I don't have an account on news.o.o, so you'll probably need to post the news article (and update it or post the second one when the update is done). If you don't want to update news.o.o in the late evening, give me an account ;-) For the update of the other wikis, I'll probably use the admin blog - we have about 20 wikis, and having a news.o.o article for each of them would be a bit too much ;-) Oh, BTW - the new wiki VMs [1] are already running with Leap 42.3. [heroes] openSUSE server migration

Hi @ll At the moment, most machines hosting the openSUSE infrastructure in Nuremberg are running in a co-location network together with other services from other teams/companies (like SUSE, openAttic, KDE, ...) With the new openSUSE Heroes team, SUSE-IT wants to split up the network into pieces to allow the heroes to get access to nearly everything they need for their work. It might be also used to clarify the responsibility for some services and make the openSUSE setup a bit more easy and clear. But this network split comes with some migration downtime. For most of the machines, a simple "shutdown", "put into the other network", "boot" should be enough (so something around max. 5-10 Minutes per machine). But some machines - especially those that are providing their service to others in this network - are a bit trickier... I started http://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/Server_migration to collect the affected machines together with some nodes and want to ask you: 1) Can someone from the SUSE-IT Heroes join the work? => All machines need a DNS change (new external IP) during the time, so we should minimize the refresh time, if not already done. => the haproxy setup on the old and new instances needs to be adapted during the migration. => we need to clarify the database usage and split up new DB servers, if needed 2) When will be the best time when we can start with the migration ? 3) What did I miss? Hello, I am making a new UI theme for openSUSE sites. software.opensuse.org is almost finished. Now I am turning to wiki. Here are some problems I have: 1. The source code on Github is still MediaWiki 1.22, not the newer version in testing wiki 2. Cannot setup a local test environment. All kinds missing PHP files problems appear. Many things on LocalSettings.php doesn't work with local test environment. Hope someone knowing wiki configuration could help me! Hello, [cross-post - please reply only on one of the mailinglists] A month after the first call for testing the updated wiki, here is another one ;-) Compared to the "old" test wiki [1], there were a few changes: - the test wiki is now running on the final VMs that will also be used for the production wiki - login is now done with the Auth_remoteuser extension (which means we can continue to use the "nice" login form) - the test wiki is now based on a (nearly) up-to-date snapshot of the english wiki - several changes "under the hood", including automated setup of the VMs and the wikis with salt, some extension updates, config tuning etc. - oh, and the wiki VMs are already running openSUSE Leap 42.3 :-) That all said - the test wiki is waiting for you at https://en-test.opensuse.org/ Please check if everything still works, play with it, test the new features, ...! It is a test instance, so nobody will complain if you do test edits that don't make sense content-wise At the same time, remember that it is a test instance, so any changes you do will be lost when I re-import the database dump for whatever reason. If you notice any issues, please report them - either in one of the mailinglists (opensuse-wiki preferred) or send a mail to admin(a)opensuse.org If nothing terrible happens, I plan to update en.opensuse.org next week. If you enjoyed testing the new wiki, please also take some time to go to our current wiki (en.opensuse.org or $LANG.opensuse.org) - there are lots of pages that need an update ;-) And finally - thanks to everybody who helped me to get everything in shape! [heroes] Wiki packages - please review

Hello, I linkpac'ed (with the -c option) the mediawiki and elasticsearch packages into openSUSE:infrastructure:wiki. These packages don't come from a devel project, so please review them before we start to use them in production ;-) BTW: You might want to read https://blog.cboltz.de/archives/76-Packaging-MediaWiki-extensions.html to understand some packaging decisions I made.
