Checksum of image in repository /devel:/ARM:/Factory:/Contrib:/Pine64/images/ is wrong
by Freek de Kruijf 26 Sep '24
by Freek de Kruijf 26 Sep '24
26 Sep '24
I downloaded and tried to use the image
openSUSE-Tumbleweed-ARM-JeOS-pine64.aarch64.raw.xz
in fact 2024.03.15-Build9.20 on a Banana Pi M64. It starts OK but a reboot
gives errors.
I also found that the checksum in the .sha256 files differs from the checksums
calculated from the images.

+ CMake: move libdeflate and Lerc to Requires.private
+ CMake: enable resource compilation on all Windows.
* Library changes:

+ TIFFXYZToRGB: avoid integer overflow (fixes issue #644)
+ uv_decode() and uv_encode(): avoid potential out-of-bounds array index (fixes issue #645)
+ Fix cases where tif_curdir is set incorrectly. Fix cases where the current directory number (tif_curdir)
is set inconsistently or incorrectly, depending on the previous history.
+ TIFFRead[Scanline/EncodedStrip/EncodeTile]: 0-initialize output buffer if setupdecode fails ;
most codecs: zero-initialize (not-yet-written parts of) output buffer if failure (fixes issue #375)

+ Fix wrong return of TIFFIsBigTIFF() in case byte-swapping is active
+ Setting the TIFFFieldInfo field set_field_type should consider field_writecount not field_readcount
+ Avoid memory leaks when using TIFFCreateDirectory() by releasing the allocated memory in the tif-structure.
+ For non-terminated ASCII arrays, the buffer is first enlarged before a NULL is set at the end to
avoid deleting the last character. (fixes issue #579)
+ Check return value of _TIFFCreateAnonField(). (fixes issue #624, CVE-2024-7006)
+ Prevent some out-of-memory attacks (https://gitlab.com/libtiff/libtiff/-/issues/614#note_1602683857)

==== bind ====
Version update (9.20.1 -> 9.20.2)
Subpackages: bind-doc bind-utils
- Update to release 9.20.2
New Features:
* Support for Offline KSK implemented.
* Add a new configuration option offline-ksk to enable Offline
KSK key management. Signed Key Response (SKR) files created
with dnssec-ksr (or other programs) can now be imported into
named with the new rndc skr -import command. Rather than
creating new DNSKEY, CDS, and CDNSKEY records and generating
signatures covering these types, these records are loaded from
the currently active bundle from the imported SKR.
* The implementation is loosely based on
draft-icann-dnssec-keymgmt-01.txt.
* Print the full path of the working directory in startup log
messages.
* named now prints its initial working directory during startup,
and the changed working directory when loading or reloading its
configuration file, if it has a valid directory option defined.
* Support a restricted key tag range when generating new keys.
* When multiple signers are being used to sign a zone, it is
useful to be able to specify a restricted range of key tags to
be used by an operator to sign the zone. The range can be
specified with tag-range in dnssec-policyâs keys (for named and
dnssec-ksr) and with the new options dnssec-keyfromlabel -M and
dnssec-keygen -M.
Feature Changes:
* Exempt prefetches from the fetches-per-zone and
fetches-per-server quotas.
* Fetches generated automatically as a result of prefetch are now
exempt from the fetches-per-zone and fetches-per-server quotas.
This should help in maintaining the cache from which query
responses can be given.
* Follow the number of CPUs set by taskset/cpuset.
* Administrators may wish to constrain the set of cores that
named runs on via the taskset, cpuset, or numactl programs (or
equivalents on other OSes).
* If the admin has used taskset, named now automatically uses the
given number of CPUs rather than the system-wide count.
Bug Fixes:
* Delay the release of root privileges until after configuring
controls.
* Delay relinquishing root privileges until the control channel
has been configured, for the benefit of systems that require
root to use privileged port numbers. This mostly affects
systems without fine- grained privilege systems (i.e., other
than Linux).
* Fix a rare assertion failure when shutting down incoming
transfer.
* A very rare assertion failure could be triggered when the
incoming transfer was either forcefully shut down, or it
finished during the printing of the details about the
statistics channel. This has been fixed.
* Fix algorithm rollover bug when there are two keys with the
same keytag.
* If there was an algorithm rollover and two keys of different
algorithms shared the same keytags, there was the possibility
that the check of whether the key matched a specific state
could be performed against the wrong key. This has been fixed
by not only checking for the matching key tag but also the key
algorithm.
* Fix an assertion failure in validate_dnskey_dsset_done().
* Under rare circumstances, named could terminate unexpectedly
when validating a DNSKEY resource record if the validation had
been canceled in the meantime. This has been fixed.
Known Issues:
* Long-running tasks in offloaded threads (e.g. the loading of
RPZ zones or processing zone transfers) may block the
resolution of queries during these operations and cause the
queries to time out. To work around the issue, the
UV_THREADPOOL_SIZE environment variable can be set to a larger
value before starting named. The recommended value is the
number of RPZ zones (or number of transfers) plus the number of
threads BIND should use, which is typically the number of CPUs.
==== cairo ====
Subpackages: libcairo-gobject2 libcairo-script-interpreter2 libcairo2
- Add b9eed915f9a67380e7ef9d8746656455c43f67e2.patch: cff: Don't
fail if no local subs. Fix regression when writing PDFs with
fonts.
==== git ====
Version update (2.46.0 -> 2.46.1)
Subpackages: git-core git-email git-svn git-web perl-Git
- Update to version 2.46.1;
* "git checkout --ours" (no other arguments) complained that the
option is incompatible with branch switching, which is technically
correct, but found confusing by some users. It now says that the
user needs to give pathspec to specify what paths to checkout.
* It has been documented that we avoid "VAR=VAL shell_func" and why.
* "git add -p" by users with diff.suppressBlankEmpty set to true
failed to parse the patch that represents an unmodified empty line
with an empty line (not a line with a single space on it), which
has been corrected.
* "git rebase --help" referred to "offset" (the difference between
the location a change was taken from and the change gets replaced)
incorrectly and called it "fuzz", which has been corrected.
* "git notes add -m '' --allow-empty" and friends that take prepared
data to create notes should not invoke an editor, but it started
doing so since Git 2.42, which has been corrected.
* An expensive operation to prepare tracing was done in re-encoding
code path even when the tracing was not requested, which has been
corrected.
* Perforce tests have been updated.
* The credential helper to talk to OSX keychain sometimes sent
garbage bytes after the username, which has been corrected.
* A recent update broke "git ls-remote" used outside a repository,
which has been corrected.
* "git config --value=foo --fixed-value section.key newvalue" barfed
when the existing value in the configuration file used the
valueless true syntax, which has been corrected.
* "git reflog expire" failed to honor annotated tags when computing
reachable commits.
* A flakey test and incorrect calls to strtoX() functions have been
fixed.
* Follow-up on 2.45.1 regression fix.
* "git rev-list ... | git diff-tree -p --remerge-diff --stdin" should
behave more or less like "git log -p --remerge-diff" but instead it
crashed, forgetting to prepare a temporary object store needed.
* The patch parser in "git patch-id" has been tightened to avoid
getting confused by lines that look like a patch header in the log
message.
* "git bundle unbundle" outside a repository triggered a BUG()
unnecessarily, which has been corrected.
* The code forgot to discard unnecessary in-core commit buffer data
for commits that "git log --skip=<number>" traversed but omitted
from the output, which has been corrected.
* "git verify-pack" and "git index-pack" started dying outside a
repository, which has been corrected.
* A corner case bug in "git stash" was fixed.

Version update (2.0.0 -> 2.1.1)
- Update to 2.1.1
* #27259: BUG: revert unintended change in the return value of
set_printoptions
* #27266: BUG: fix reference counting bug in __array_interface__
implementation...
* #27267: TST: Add regression test for missing descr in
array-interface
* #27276: BUG: Fix #27256 and #27257
* #27278: BUG: Fix array_equal for numeric and non-numeric scalar
types
* #27304: BUG: f2py: better handle filtering of public/private
subroutines
- Update to 2.1.0
* Support for Python 3.13.
* Preliminary support for free threaded Python 3.13.
* Support for the array-api 2023.12 standard.
[#]# New functions
* A new function np.unstack(array, axis=...) was added, which
splits an array into a tuple of arrays along an axis. It serves
as the inverse of numpy.stack. (gh-26579)
[#]# Deprecations
* The fix_imports keyword argument in numpy.save is deprecated.
Since NumPy 1.17, numpy.save uses a pickle protocol that no
longer supports Python 2, and ignored fix_imports keyword. This
keyword is kept only for backward compatibility. It is now
deprecated. (gh-26452)
* Passing non-integer inputs as the first argument of bincount is
now deprecated, because such inputs are silently cast to
integers with no warning about loss of precision. (gh-27076)
[#]# Expired deprecations
* Scalars and 0D arrays are disallowed for numpy.nonzero and
numpy.ndarray.nonzero. (gh-26268)
* set_string_function internal function was removed and
PyArray_SetStringFunction was stubbed out. (gh-26611)
[#]# C API changes
* API symbols now hidden but customizable
* Many shims removed from npy_3kcompat.h
* New PyUFuncObject field process_core_dims_func
[#]# New Features
* Preliminary Support for Free-Threaded CPython 3.13
* f2py can generate freethreading-compatible C extensions
[#]# Improvements
* histogram auto-binning now returns bin sizes >=1 for integer
input data
* ndarray shape-type parameter is now covariant and bound to
tuple[int, ...]
* np.quantile with method closest_observation chooses nearest
even order statistic
* lapack_lite is now thread safe
* The numpy.printoptions context manager is now thread and
async-safe
* Type hinting numpy.polynomial
* Improved numpy.dtypes type hints
[#]# Performance improvements and changes
* ma.cov and ma.corrcoef are now significantly faster
[#]# Changes
* ma.corrcoef may return a slightly different result
* Cast-safety fixes in copyto and full
- Release 2.0.1
[#]# Improvements
* np.quantile with method closest_observation chooses nearest
even order statistic
==== python311 ====
Version update (3.11.9 -> 3.11.10)
Subpackages: python311-curses python311-dbm
- Update to 3.11.10:
- Security
- gh-123678: Upgrade libexpat to 2.6.3
- gh-121957: Fixed missing audit events around interactive
use of Python, now also properly firing for ``python -i``,
as well as for ``python -m asyncio``. The event in question
is ``cpython.run_stdin``.
- gh-122133: Authenticate the socket connection for the
``socket.socketpair()`` fallback on platforms where
``AF_UNIX`` is not available like Windows. Patch by
Gregory P. Smith <greg(a)krypto.org> and Seth Larson
<seth(a)python.org>. Reported by Ellie <el(a)horse64.org>
- gh-121285: Remove backtracking from tarfile header parsing
for ``hdrcharset``, PAX, and GNU sparse headers
(bsc#1230227, CVE-2024-6232).
- gh-118486: :func:`os.mkdir` on Windows now accepts
* mode* of ``0o700`` to restrict the new directory to
the current user. This fixes CVE-2024-4030 affecting
:func:`tempfile.mkdtemp` in scenarios where the base
temporary directory is more permissive than the default.
- gh-116741: Update bundled libexpat to 2.6.2
- Library
- gh-123270: Applied a more surgical fix for malformed
payloads in :class:`zipfile.Path` causing infinite loops
(gh-122905) without breaking contents using legitimate
characters (bsc#1229704, CVE-2024-8088).
- gh-123067: Fix quadratic complexity in parsing ``"``-quoted
cookie values with backslashes by :mod:`http.cookies`
(bsc#1229596, CVE-2024-7592).
- gh-122905: :class:`zipfile.Path` objects now sanitize names
from the zipfile.
- gh-121650: :mod:`email` headers with embedded newlines are
now quoted on output. The :mod:`~email.generator` will now
refuse to serialize (write) headers that are unsafely folded
or delimited; see :attr:`~email.policy.Policy.verify_generated_headers`.
(Contributed by Bas Bloemsaat and Petr Viktorin in
:gh:`121650`; CVE-2024-6923, bsc#1228780).
- gh-119506: Fix :meth:`!io.TextIOWrapper.write` method
breaks internal buffer when the method is called again
during flushing internal buffer.
- gh-118643: Fix an AttributeError in the :mod:`email` module
when re-fold a long address list. Also fix more cases of
incorrect encoding of the address separator in the address
list.
- gh-113171: Fixed various false positives and false
negatives in * :attr:`ipaddress.IPv4Address.is_private`
(see these docs for details) *
:attr:`ipaddress.IPv4Address.is_global` *
:attr:`ipaddress.IPv6Address.is_private` *
:attr:`ipaddress.IPv6Address.is_global` Also in the
corresponding :class:`ipaddress.IPv4Network` and
:class:`ipaddress.IPv6Network` attributes.
Fixes bsc#1226448 (CVE-2024-4032).
- gh-102988: :func:`email.utils.getaddresses` and
:func:`email.utils.parseaddr` now return ``('', '')``
2-tuples in more situations where invalid email addresses
are encountered instead of potentially inaccurate
values. Add optional *strict* parameter to these two
functions: use ``strict=False`` to get the old behavior,
accept malformed inputs. ``getattr(email.utils,
'supports_strict_parsing', False)`` can be use to check if
the *strict* paramater is available. Patch by Thomas Dwyer
and Victor Stinner to improve the CVE-2023-27043 fix
(bsc#1210638).
- gh-67693: Fix :func:`urllib.parse.urlunparse` and
:func:`urllib.parse.urlunsplit` for URIs with path starting
with multiple slashes and no authority. Based on patch by
Ashwin Ramaswami.
- Core and Builtins
- gh-112275: A deadlock involving ``pystate.c``'s
``HEAD_LOCK`` in ``posixmodule.c`` at fork is now
fixed. Patch by ChuBoning based on previous Python 3.12 fix
by Victor Stinner.
- gh-109120: Added handle of incorrect star expressions, e.g
``f(3, *)``. Patch by Grigoryev Semyon
- Removed upstreamed patches:
- CVE-2023-27043-email-parsing-errors.patch
- CVE-2024-4032-private-IP-addrs.patch
- CVE-2024-6923-email-hdr-inject.patch
- CVE-2024-8088-inf-loop-zipfile_Path.patch
- Add gh120226-fix-sendfile-test-kernel-610.patch to avoid
failing test_sendfile_close_peer_in_the_middle_of_receiving
tests on Linux >= 6.10 (GH-120227).

online reencryption operations that could lead to data corruption.
The code now adds strict checks (and aborts the operation) and
changes direct-io detection code to prevent data corruption.
* Fix a clang compilation error in SSH token plugin.
As clang linker treats missing symbols as errors, the linker phase
for the SSH token failed as the optional cryptsetup_token_buffer_free
was not defined.

Greetings!
I've been a user of openSUSE (Tumbleweed) ARM for a bit of time and I've been enjoying it so far. It's incredibly fast, stable, and easy to deploy. I have the KDE variant running on an RK3288 Chromebook of mine and it runs very well.
I've recently noticed that the Falkon (Qt WebEngine-based) web browser was removed from the openSUSE ARM repositories (as I recall using it at one point previously) and that Chromium also doesn't seem to exist at all on the repos.
The Firefox build appears to also be stuck on version 95. From what I can tell, this build of Firefox is also one of the older builds with the bug (that was fixed in newer builds) that makes Webrender not work with 'renderonly' GPUs (e.g. Mali GPUs with Panfrost) so everything is software rendered as well.
I was wondering if there are any plans to potentially upgrade the Firefox build sometime in future as well as any plans to bring Chromium and bring back Falkon to the repositories. I tried to see if any builds of Firefox/Chromium/Falkon for 32-bit ARM are available on Flatpak, but it looks like none are available.
Just in case there might be such in existence, are there any potential repositories that aren't added in the default openSUSE install archives that may already have one of those web browsers?
Any help would greatly be appreciated and thank you in advance.

==== gtk4 ====
Version update (4.15.4 -> 4.16.0)
Subpackages: gtk4-schema gtk4-tools libgtk-4-1 typelib-1_0-Gtk-4_0
- Update to version 4.16.0:
+ Note: This release changes the default GSK renderer to be
Vulkan, on Wayland. Other platforms still use ngl. The intent
of this change is to use the best available platform APIs. You
can still override the renderer choice using the GSK_RENDERER
environment variable.
+ We believe that most of the problems reported with the new
renderers during the 4.13 and 4.15 development cycles have been
addressed by now.
+ But the new renderers and dmabuf support are using graphics
drivers in different ways than the old gl renderer, and trigger
new driver bugs. Therefore, it is recommended to use the latest
mesa release (24.2) with the new renderers.

It takes 7+2 minutes to get the login screen of Leap 15.6 XFCE on my RPi4
by Freek de Kruijf 10 Sep '24
by Freek de Kruijf 10 Sep '24
10 Sep '24
After preparing the Leap 15.6 XFCE image for my Raspberry Pi 4B with 4GB and
inserting the SD in its slot it takes almost 7 minutes before I finally get
the grup2 screen. It shows a 10 seconds delay, but my keyboard is not
recognized, so I have to wait for the countdown. Each second countdown takes
12 seconds, so another 2 minutes before I finally see the login screen.
I recently upgraded the eeprom with the version of april 2024, which became
recently available in the Tumbleweed version for the RPi4.
It is the same on a similar RPi4, with also an updated eeprom. On a third,
older, RPi4, without an updated eeprom, the system starts normal and the
keyboard is recognized, so the Return key aborts the countdown.
When I use the Tumbleweed image I do get the grup2 screen after about 30
seconds. Still the keyboard is not recognized and each countdown second also
takes about 12 seconds.
Bug report is: https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1230104
