[opensuse-arm] Problem with devel:languages:perl

Hi. As I wrote in another message just now, I have openSUSE 12.2 running (thanks to Ciaran) on my Cubox. Now, I'd like to install some packages from the devel:languages:perl repository -- any pointers on how to do this? Perl itself is installed on the Cubox already, from the openSUSE-12.2-ARM-Repo-OSS repository. I tried adding the devel:languages:perl repository like this: zypper ar http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/devel:/languages:/perl/openSUSE_1… But it doesn't work. Hi, Some things about java-1_7_0-openjdk. I just wanted to express my surprise that the "graphical system openSUSE-12.3-ARM-XFCE-chromebook-*.raw.xz" does include gimp and a softphone, while missing more essential parts. Could very well be a well thought of decision, no problems with that. Perhaps I was mislead by "XFCE image 4GB" and it might be wiser to rename it to: "Just enough X" When examining the size of the image (497MB), obviously not everything fits is there, though the name suggest a sort of "live arm image", just like the general openSUSE live (iso) images.... So absolutely no problem with that. Actually, what did worry me, was the amount of time needed to startup... At one point I feared that something was wrong with the image, despite the correct sha256 hash. Let me note that I transferred the image to an USB-stick, not a sd-disk. I don't expect something like the original OS, which is probably 200% tuned for turbo-startup. Any other experiences regarding chromebook startup time? I found apparently some images for the Raspberry Pi in http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/Factory:/ARM:/Contrib:/… however the name contains armv7l, whereas the Raspberry Pi contains a ARMv6 chip. [opensuse-arm] Building using native builders

Hi, I'm trying to verify some build failures are not as a result of using qemu, but for the life of me I can't work out how to get things built on the arndales rather than the x86 hosts. I would build locally on my chromebook, but I appear to have forgotten how. Problem is I have three packages that I'm trying to build and one of those three is a dep for the others. What's the best way to go about it? How can one get projects to build using the native builders? Hi, Just been playing with a chromebook. Looks great under xfce. Touchpad should be avoided: I guess I have to find an ordinary mouse somewhere. Also networkmanager worked OK! I was surprised to find gimp on it, but I didn't dare to start that beast up. What made me wonder, is that (at least from the xfce-menu-thingy) there is little under "Internet". I did see a voip-client, bit I missed any email-client or even a webbrowser. When your machine remains dual-bootable, one might say: switch back to chrome-OS, but in case you want the book to be single-boot with Gecko...... Hi everyone, Ever since I've been involved with openSUSE, the qemu package has had an unusual setup of configuring and building twice: once for the regular binaries, then moving them to a temporary directory and finally configuring and building statically for the qemu-linux-user subpackage, used for arm chroot builds among others. In our quest to finally unify the kvm and qemu packages, I have updated the qemu package to 1.5.0 (SR#176307 pending for Factory) and have subsequently prepared to split the qemu.spec[.in] to build qemu-linux-user in a separate linked package similar to gcc or kernel: https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/176308 AFAICS the RPM package name stays the same that way, so armv7/armv5el should hopefully be unaffected and the change transparent to end users. A nice side-effect is that we can limit the SLE_11_SP2 build breakage to qemu-linux-user package (BNC#820754: SLE_11_SP2 is missing a glibc maintenance update for static builds). Also the dependencies for qemu-linux-user get significantly less and no *-static deps for qemu. If I don't hear any objections, I'll accept the changed qemu package into Virtualization project later today and will setup qemu-linux-user package there. For Factory this is a heads-up that we will require to copy/setup the additional qemu-linux-user package once we've tidied up and submit the package split to Factory at some future point towards 13.1. Further 13.1 work still under discussion is to create further subpackages inside qemu so that the kvm package won't need to depend on mips etc. emulation binaries. Hi, I've recently finished an early image for the Cubie Board (http://cubieboard.org) which is an interesting relatively fast and small armv7 device in the price range of a Raspberry Pi. The image is intended for the 1 GB RAM variant. if you have a 512MB version, please let me know. I can trivially create an image, assuming that there are testers available. This image can be used as a base for a long list of Allwinner A10 based devices. If you own other A10 based devices and are interested in testing images, please ping me. I can't seem to get past 800MHz on the Beagleboard XM cpu clock, though the part is rated for 1GHz. The 800MHz limit can't be exceeded. Hi All, New to OpenSuse + ARM. I am experimenting with Rapsberry Pis. I have just downloaded the 20130407 raspberry pi image to take 12.3 for a spin. Why do we place the root partition sandwiched between the boot partition and the swap partition? Not sure of the RPi boot loader, but assuming the loader is hard coded to boot from the second partition - would we not be better to use a swap file and just having a rootfs as the only partition? This way the partition can be resized to fill the rest of a larger SD card. FWIW, I have run rtlsdr on a Beagleboard XM. I had to add a symbolic link to make it work. I have the ODROID-X and I installed odroidx-20121112-openSUSE-12.2-ARM_FOR_HDMI.img to replace Ubuntu 12.10. I have used the 12.3 repo to upgrade it and on a number of occasions it powered off during zypper dup. A check found the board was running at 1.7GHz so I now have the governor set for ondemand. It also powered off installing Hardkernel-Mali400-OpenSUSE-12.2-MultiInstall so I'll wait for the 12.3 version as mali400 support is something I need for the quisk SDR (Software Defined Radio) application which otherwise renders every spoken word unintelligible by video hogging CPU resources. Hardkernel are finding it difficult to get the mali400 driver working in kernel 3.6.x on Ubuntu so it only works 3.0.x kernels. The max98090 sound driver only exposes mixer controls SPK and Mic but we think later kernels should expose more controls. 12.3 has installed kernel 3.7.9-1.1 but it's still running 3.6.6. Everything in /boot is OK, but in /odroid-boot it still has 3.6.6 uImage and uInitrd. I have made uInitrd for 3.7.9-1.1 and I'll change uImage in /odroid-boot. Excellently done, congrats. This image is without enabling the LAN driver but is working fine to me. And I am wondering where I can find the source of the image ? Or is there any project in our obs for building the image for cubieboard ? Thanks.

[opensuse-arm] OpenSUSE 12.3 for armv7 on Mirabox almost runnning

For anyone who is interested in being able to run openSUSE 12.3 on Globalscale's Mirabox. Unfortunately I did not succeed... First I tried with the "standard" mirabox kernel 2.6.35.9 and the rootfs for openSUSE 12.3 for armv7 (see my previous posts on this mailing list). That did not work since (as I learned from some people around here, thanks!) the kernel was too old for openSUSE. So I tried to compile my own kernel. I started with 3.9-rc5 and a while later with 3.9-rc6. I did quite some tweaks and twiddeling and finally came up with this kernel config: http://pastebin.com/MjpE3yUD. This one does run, you can get into openSUSE, login as root etc., but I wasn't able to get the network up and running and the USB3 ports working. Note that my config file disables wifi and bluetooth (I got some errors and since I do not need it I disabled them). For the network, for 3.9-rc6 it seems to run but it cannot connect to "the outside world" even when I give it a fixed ip address with ifconfig (it is not able to get an ip address from my dhcp server). The weird thing is that the MAC addresses openSUSE thinks it has for eth0 and eth1 are not the MAC addresses which are printed on the mirabox itself. For the USB3 ports, I have no clue at all how to get those working. What I know, is that they are connected to an internal PCIe interface, but I couldn't find any options to enable it. For me, the USB3 ports are fundamental since I need to connect an external hard disk to it. I know it can be done because I have them working using debian 6 (with the "standard" mirabox kernel 2.6.35.9). For anyone who wants to compile the kernel, be aware it works with a device tree. Since Mirabox u-boot is quite old, you cannot use it directly. This is what I did to get a working uImage: cp arch/arm/boot/zImage . cp arch/arm/boot/dts/armada-370-mirabox.dtb . cat zImage armada-370-mirabox.dtb > zImage-mirabox mkimage -A arm -O linux -T kernel -C none -a 0x00008000 -e 0x00008000 -n linux-3.9-rc6 -d zImage-mirabox uImage If anyone wants to proceed with this, please feel free to do so! Hi, I have been working towards getting OpenStack/Folsom to work on openSUSE-12.3/ARM. First, to get it to boot a VM with LXC on x86, I had to workaround https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=814680 but when doing this on my pandaboard, it ran into another problem, claiming "internal error cannot create rule since ebtables tool is missing." even though, the ebtables tool was there, but when running libvirtd --listen in the foreground, it printed a better hint: Failure to execute command '$EBT -t nat -L' : 'FATAL: Module ebtables not found. coming from # CONFIG_BRIDGE_NF_EBTABLES is not set so I'm now going to build additional kernel modules to see how many it takes to get it working. Hi, on this extra-long weekend I tried to build a new Raspberry Pi image in OBS, which failed from at least two bugs: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=812589 and some kiwi problem, that might be improved in current kiwi git So in the end I updated my custom-built image once more at http://zq1.de/~bernhard/linux/opensuse/raspberrypi-opensuse-20130401.img.gz This has current Factory packages, the repo URL updated and the kernel upgraded to 3.6 because that is what the raspberry developers maintain atm. I packaged this kernel without xen at https://build.opensuse.org/project/show?project=openSUSE%3AFactory%3AARM%3A… but for some reason, the build process declares it as failure, so I built it locally and copied the arch/arm/boot/zImage out. The old 3.1 kernel is now running into the same failure, even though I did not change it much, so I guess the breakage comes from somewhere else. Would be nice if Adrian or Dirk could have a look. hi, cubieboard is Allwinner A10 based board, including 1GHz Cortex-A8 and Mali-400 GPU. i am trying to build a kiwi image for Allwinner A10. i have already run opensuse 12.3 successful on kernel 3.0. the kernel and uboot is build on obs: home:bjzhang:devel:ARM:12.3:Contrib:sun4i/kernel-sun4i home:bjzhang:devel:ARM:12.3:Contrib:sun4i/uboot-sun4i i reference "openSUSE for ARM on your device" slide and modify Image.kiwi.in then generate kiwi through "sh pre_checkin.sh". but i got lots of problems. i do not use kiwi before this, sorry for the noise: 1, when will uboot-setup.tgz used? it seems that it only used when kernel update on opensuse arm? So, i could just ignore it when build image at the beginning? 2, Jeos-cubieboard build successful, but xz image seems empty and tar.bz2 is generated. i could only see xz package on http://download.opensuse.org/ports/armv7hl/distribution/12.3/images/ except XFCE-rootfs. do i miss something important in Jeos-cubieboard.kiwi? 3, build image on server is very slow, i want to build locally, but i failed on both x86_64 and arm. 1), if i build on x64_64 on opensuse 12.3: XFCE-cubieboard> osc build XFCE-cubieboard.kiwi images armv7l --clean Building armv7l for XFCE-cubieboard.kiwi/images Unknown build type: ''. Build description should end in .spec, .dsc or .kiwi. 2), if i build on arm on opensuse12.2, lots of package not found, e.g. gawk, patch. 4, i could not find my package on https://build.opensuse.org/project/show?project=home%3Abjzhang%3Adevel%3AAR…, but i could search and access the package on obs, why? 5, some name of my packages is not correct, but i do not know how to rename it, e.g. it had better rename uboot-sun4i to u-boot-sun4i and rename Jeos-cubieboard to JeOS-cubieboard. beside, i could not find firefox on my opensuse arm 12.3, do i missing something? thanks in advance. [opensuse-arm] networking problem with openSUSE 12.3 in chroot

Hi, Using the HCL:Chroot HOWTO [1] and the openSUSE 12.3 JeOS rootfs [2] I've tried to get oS12.3 running on my Galaxy S2 with half success... The chroot environment is working [3] but I'm unable to access the network. Even ping returns with an error "Unable to open socket" Any tips? Hi, in attachment omapdrm log OK (openSUSE 12.2 kernel: 3.4.*) and KO (vanilla kernel 3.9-rc1). I think, we had a hack for omapdrm for openSUSE 12.2 (forcing 1024x768 because of broken things?). Alex, it is you who have backported omapdrm on 12.2 kernel. Any idea about that? Guillaume

[opensuse-arm] mysterious segfault

Hi, The attached piece of code randomly segfaults on a panda board with openSUSE 12.2. The same code works fine in a chroot with qemu on x86_64. The general method also works fine on x86_64. [opensuse-arm] OpenSUSE 12.3 for armv7 on Mirabox fails

Standard, Mirabox is delivered with Debian. I would like to have it run OpenSUSE 12.3 for armV7 because I like openSUSE better :-) and it is natively compiled for armv7. Debian Squeeze (debian 6) is not (it is compiled for armv5 if I understand correctly, which sounds kind-of silly on an armv7 architecture). So I downloaded the opensuse image from http://download.opensuse.org/ports/armv7hl/distribution/12.3/images/openSUS… and put it on my sdcard. I made 2 partitions, one FAT ca. 100MB for uImage (from the rootfs in the tbz file) and the remainder ext4 for the rootfilesystem. I hoped it would work right away but it did not. Right after the loading phase of uboot it stopped after the message "uncompressing linux...done, booting the kernel" and nothing was displayed. Then I thought I might use the precompiled uImage (from the debian distribution) together with the /lib/modules files from the debian distribution, so I copied /lib/modules from debian rootfs to the opensuse rootfs and the uImage to the FAT partition of my sdcard. It did boot but during the boot process it gave all strange errors and did not complete. uImage was from https://code.google.com/p/mirabox/downloads/detail?name=uImage-v2.6.35.9-gt… and the debian rootfs from http://www.plugcomputer.org/405/us/mirabox/sources/rootfs/mira_fs-v5-0-1-12…. At some moment, I thought that might be logical because of the armv5 arch from debian and armv7 from opensuse. Then I tried running opensuse in a chroot on the mirabox with debian as a base, as described on http://en.opensuse.org/HCL:Chroot. That worked really wonderful. So that led me to the idea of compiling my own kernel on the mirabox when being in a chroot opensuse. I grabbed the kernel sources from http://www.plugcomputer.org/405/us/mirabox/sources/kernel/mira_kernel-v5-0-…, did not modify the configuration in .config, ran "make", "make uImage", "make install", "make modules_install" and then booted opensuse with the resulting kernel. That did not work either. Right after the loading phase of uboot it stopped after the message "uncompressing linux...done, booting the kernel" and nothing was displayed. Then I tried compiling the kernel sources from opensuse (obtained from package "kernel-source" and "kernel-devel" via /sbin/yast2 in opensuse) by tweaking in the armada370 bits (including the same kernel .config file) from the kernel sources from the previous paragraph but it was too much tweaking and twiddling so I gave up on that. Why doesn't it work? What did I miss? Do I not understand the kernel building process? Any help is really appreciated.
