[opensuse-arm] Factory ARM images: packages to rebuild + kiwi/OBS problem?

Hi, Could you trigger rebuild of: * libyui-ncurses-pkg : to fix libzypp dep which has a newer version now. * glib2-branding-openSUSE : to fix gio-branding-openSUSE dep. This will fix JeOS image deps. I think there is a problem in spec file because we should rebuild them automatically. No? Moreover, non rootfs images have another error, related to kiwi: "nothing provides ERROR_NO_BOOT_CONFIG_FILE_FOUND needed by kiwi-desc-oemboot-requires, nothing provides ERROR_NO_DEPENDENCIES_FOUND needed by kiwi-desc-oemboot-requires" Any idea why? I know we already had this error in the past. Cannot remember if it was due to an OBS config or a kiwi problem. [opensuse-arm] First Cubieboard2 image

Hi, The cubieboard2 is the next version of the cubieboard1, for which we have already support (http://en.opensuse.org/HCL:CubieBoard) Both boards are the same except for the main chip. Whereas the cubieboard1 uses a A10 Allwinner (sun5i) the cubieboard2 uses a A20 Allwinner (sun7i). Kernel support for A20 is not fully upstream (some things were merged for 3.12) so the best option is to use the kernel and u-boot from linux-sunxi (http://linux-sunxi.org) I have successfully build an image for the cubieboard2, grab it from my repo (home:ocurero:arm/JeOS-cubieboard2). Bear in mind that this is the first time I use OBS and that I don't have a cubieboard to test it yet. [opensuse-arm] ARMv6 (raspberry pi) image partitioning broken?

Marcus, when I build locally JeOS-raspberrypi image, I get a *.raw image but it seems that partitioning is a bit strange. We have the 2 partitions: * 1st: FAT32 for Pi bootloader (mandatory unfortunately) with bootflag enabled * 2nd: EXT4 for rootfs But when I want to boot on it, it just does not boot at all, whereas it is readable from my desktop openSUSE. The thing is fdisk reports some problems with "v" command to verify partitions: Partition 1: head 160 greater than maximum 124 Partition 1: previous sectors 411655 disagrees with total 193971 Partition 2: previous sectors 1865727 disagrees with total 897422 Remaining 5974015 unallocated 512-byte sectors If I repartition manually my SD card, number of heads/sectors are different and then I copy back the files on each partition and it does boot. I guess there is a problem with kiwi partitioning related to number of heads/sectors. Any idea how to fix that? OK, I admit it, I am a noob with RPi and openSUSE. I am trying to get omxplayer working on my opensuse:FACTORY image without much luck. I keep getting errors about nothing providing libEGL.so. I have MESA-EGL1 installed and /usr/lib/libEGL.so.1 is present. Digging around via google, I found mentions of vc (Video Core) files (including the libbcm_host file I also get errors about). I have added the Essentials and Multimedia repositories (http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-arm/2013-09/msg00116.html) and then tried installing omxplayer and get the nothing provides libEGL.so needed by error. Can anyone give a pointer? Has anyone worked with iscsi on Rpi? I can get it to see a lun, but it always reports the size as zero.. not sure why, yet. I was looking at putting my swap onto an iscsi lun to see what kind of performance I could get. Hi, I've removed the "bootstrap-only" paths from openSUSE:13.1 for the ports repository, so now we have the "real" state of affairs visible on OBS: https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/openSUSE:13.1 and to be honest, it doesn't look that good. many low hanging packages are failing to build (including things like gnutls, qemu, webkitgtk, java-1_7_0-openjdk, hwinfo, llvm, postfix) which are essential for either the system or for the rest of the packages to be able to build. I've isolated some of the issues and added overwrites in openSUSE:13.1:Ports/extra that I can hopefully get into openSUSE Factory and 13.1 merged soon. As the OBS build power is quite limited, I've temporarily disabled building of openSUSE:Factory, until openSUSE:13.1 is finished at least with most of the builds. Hi all, I'm running 12.3 w/ all fixes (using repos [1]) on my Samsung Chromebook ("Snow Fremont B-E 5303"). Some things I observed/stumbled on/couldn't fix: - In contrast to the Wiki, the webcam (UVC 1.00 device WebCam SC-03FFM12339N 2232:1037) works for me without any tinkering (simply installed Ekiga and chose webcam as video device). - In contrast to the Wiki, sound works. I had to unmute some items in alsamixer as described in [4]) - does somebody know, if this is still dangerous ("you may fry your speakers")? Doing what exactly would be dangerous? - The JeOS-image from [2] (1.12.1-Build88.1, 13 Jun 2013) doesn't boot (I used the XFCE image, 1.12.1-Build66.3, 18 Apr 2013). Booting the JeOS image just stops at the U-Boot prompt ("SMDK5250 #"). - There is no way around building packages myself in order to play patent encumbered video and audio (MP3 and the like), is there? I can play Internet radio and OGG using Rhythmbox, though. I use Packman stuff (like libmpg123) for this on my x86 systems, but Packman has no ARM repos. - No Firefox in repos, as explained in an earlier post on this list. I ended up installing the one from the 12.2 repo, but that one is outdated. - I couldn't find a way to switch to the console (as with Ctrl-Alt-F1..6 on a x86 OpenSUSE). Does somebody know how to do this? - Closing the lid starts XScreenSaver. Triggering suspend (using "powersave -u") terminates my X session and takes me back to the lightdm login. Subsequent attempts to suspend result in an error message "org.freedesktop.UPower.GeneralError: Sleep has already been requested and is pending". - After 5 minutes of inactivity, the backlight goes off (black screen). Touching the touchpad shows the mouse pointer, but not the desktop (remains black). Hitting Ctrl-Alt-Leftarrow (the arrow key next to Esc) terminates my session and takes me back to the lightdm login. Once in a while, the Chromebook completely freezes - black screen, hard reset (Refresh-Power) required. - Accelerated video: [3] suggests that it is just copying libmali.so from ChromeOS together with some symlinks to it. It isn't. X remains slow and I get plenty of "libGL error: unable to load driver: armsoc_dri.so". - The lightdm login screen icons (the two at the very top right, for shutdown, etc.) are not displayed properly. The two main showstoppers are IMHO the unaccelerated video and the crashes mentioned above (probably related to powersaving). Is there something I could help with? Would it be useful to provide access to my Chromebook via SSH? Test packages? Upgrade to Factory? [opensuse-arm] [RFC] Moving beagle and panda to Device Tree

Hi, it seems that panda and beagle legacy support (I mean non Device Tree support) will be dropped more or less quickly. To prepare openSUSE for the switch, I made dtb-omap3-beagle and dtb-omap4-panda packages in my home repo. Where should I submit them? openSUSE:Factory:ARM, or a devel project? Moreover, I made those packages 'noarch' type since DTB is not arch specific but it would also make sense to make them 'armv7' arch type since it is only used on armv7 boards. Instead of making a package for each board, another way would be to build all DTB supported by our kernel version (using 'make dtbs' while building linux kernel, for each flavour), but DTB may be removed from kernel sources since they should not be kernel specific. Hi, For armv6, we only have java-1_5_0-gcj-compat and no openjdk/icedtea. The problem is java-1_7_0-openjdk package is unresolvable because it needs java and java-devel >= 1.7.0. Cyclic deps, no? Anyone for fixing it? Anything I could do? If I remember correctly, this is Dirk who get it working for armv7 and it was a bit tricky. Hello, as the last weeks improved the OBS structure for ARM a bit, so that for raspberry no longer patches are necessary, but everything is done in "openSUSE:Factory:ARM/JeOS" I now removed devel:ARM:Factory:Contrib:RaspberryPi/JeOS and devel:ARM:Factory:Contrib:RaspberryPi/JeOS.armv6 and instead linked the three images directly to openSUSE:Factory:ARM/JeOS That removes one level of complexity which is no longer needed. I found instructions for installation of Java SDK in openSUSE on http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Installing_Java I downloaded the file jdk-7u40-linux-arm-vfp-sflt.tar.gz from the Oracle site and followed the instructions on the wiki page more or less for Linux x86. However the following command did not work properly: sudo /usr/sbin/update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/javac javac /usr/lib/jdk_Oracle/bin/javac 3 \ --slave /usr/bin/appletviewer appletviewer /usr/lib/jdk_Oracle/bin/appletviewer \ ...... The ...... indicate about 50 lines with --slave lines ending with a backslash. Apparently this was to much for the command buffer and some of these lines at the end were lost. I could not figure out how to split this one command in two, so it would do what the one commend intended to do. After installation of the rapberrypi kernel I tried to start the network module of YaST. The y2log shows the message: linux(3168) [Ruby] modules/Linuxrc.rb:49 Reading install.inf, but file doesn't exist!!! Which turns out to be the file /etc/install.inf, but apparently coming from /var/lib/YaST2/install.inf which does not exist in the raspberrypi kernel package. I did a "zypper up" and found a few raspberry packages to be updated. One of them, raspberrypi-gfx, however refuses to be installed. Hi, Guillaume asked me some time ago why we have JeOS and JeOS.armv6l, and I wasn't able to give a good answer for it. So I sat down today and rewired the *-raspberrypi image links in devel:ARM:Factory:Contrib:RaspberryPi to openSUSE:Factory:ARM/JeOS, that now has also those flavors supported. I've begun to merge the changes over JeOS.armv6l, but there are certainly more things to merge. Please let me know if you find issues. [opensuse-arm] Stupid questions about u-boot, kernel, boot.scr.img

Hi all, I'm trying to get RasPi to boot with U-Boot, streamlined with the other ARM platforms (I guess). So how is this designed to work? That's what I understand: * U-Boot * loads boot.scr.img from <whatever the board boots from> * boot.scr loads kernel.img * really?, or the zImage directly? * from where? always from the same boot partition U-Boot came from? or possibly from the root fs? (extload should be able to do that?) * maybe boot.scr has the kernel cmdline embedded? Or does it load it from storage? If this is not correct, please tell me the correct sequence (or point me to the documentation ;) Then, the more interesting questions are: * who creates kernel.img U-Boot image (if this is used)? * who creates boot.scr.img? Actually I am trying to do the following for the RPI: * u-boot on SDCard FAT partition * boot.script on SDCard FAT partition, intelligent enough to fetch some sort of config from /boot on ext4 rootfs (for kernel command line options) * boot.script to load kernel from /boot on ext4 rootfs The idea is, that the FAT partitions does not need to be touched after a kernel update etc, but that it will just fetch all that's needed from the rootfs. Not sure if this is a good idea and if it is going to work, but it would surely make kernel updates etc. much more painless than they are now. I have a bluetooth USB stick in my Raspberry Pi and with the rapberrypi kernel I do see bluetooth modules loaded in the kernel. However, some bleutooth packages are available in the repository, but the most imported one, bleuz, is missing. [opensuse-arm] Raspberry Pi: might we go to kernel 3.6.x?

Hi all, after Andreas' and Guillaume's great HOWTO, I finally pulled out my raspi over the weekend and played with it. It works pretty well. However, the system is pretty unstable with the 3.1 kernel. I noticed when trying to build ffmpeg from source. Lots of strange errors, from ext4 complaining about delayed allocation to spurios "ENOPERM" when closing temporary files during compilation etc. Also, the raspberrypi-gfx demo/test tools did not work, erroring with messages about "vcihq not connected" in dmesg. Additionally, my 512MB Raspi only had 256MB available, no matter what amount of gpu_mem I put into config.txt. Then I simply grabbed the binary kernel and modules from https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux and new firmware from https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware and voila -- the little box was running stable. So I took the kernel from devel:ARM:Factory:Contrib:RaspberryPi:kernel-3.6 and updated the patch set to yesterdays git and changed the configuration to be pretty similar to what is in the "upstream" git. I also updated the firmware package. Both together run very fine for me. I have all RAM available, the test tools work, etc.pp. So maybe it would make sense to use the 3.6.11 kernel as "upstream" Raspberry Pi also does? I created SRs 198076 (raspberrypi-firmware) and 198080 (kernel-raspberrypi) and maybe we should use devel:ARM:Factory:Contrib:RaspberryPi:kernel-3.6 as the default raspi kernel?
