Greetings GNOME/openSUSE lovers. After holding a very successful first meeting, the GNOME team will be holding its next meeting this Thursday at noon EDT/18:00CST/1600 GMT). In general we will follow the meeting guidelines (http://en.opensuse.org/Meetings/About) outlined for the openSUSE project, except we use #opensuse-gnome as the IRC channel. Please add agenda items and questions to the meeting page. This particular meeting will be centered around 10.3 cleanup, 11.0 planning and the process/planning improvements for the team (ie having these meetings, and re-organizing the wiki like we've done over the past couple of weeks). But we decided to upload the live CDs, so you can test these and see if there are regressions in what you reported. Hi! After quite some rebuilds and testing, I'm happy to announce that RC1 looks brilliant and I'm hoping you're looking forward as much as I did to update all your computers to it. Important Changes Since Beta3 ============================= * libzypp 3.24 * a second DVD9 titled "all the rest" (for the retail box) * Virtualbox 1.5 * OpenOffice.org 2.3RC3 * countless bug fixes in every component * 485 packages submitted * 535 bugs RESOLVED/FIXED A more detailed list of changes is available via http://en.opensuse.org/Factory/News . Most Annoying Bugs ================== * Online update opens an annoying popup with the progress. We'll prepare an online update for it, so it will only affect the first update * On some machines we have problems with the kernel and ACPI - investigating, more data would be helpful * GNOME is not yet final - we will update this right after RC1 and prepare a RC2. This one will be internally, but you can get the update through Factory * 32bit PPC machines have a problem with dependencies that try to install 64bit RPMs. * The bootloader config is not written out correctly on some updates * The sudo config on the live CD is broken We'll keep http://en.opensuse.org/Bugs:Most_Annoying_Bugs_10.3_dev updated as we go. Call for Testing ================ If you want to help testing our standard test cases, please coordinate with others and subscribe to opensuse-testing! (http://en.opensuse.org/Communicate/Mailinglists) There is no focus area, please use the product as if it was final and you wanted to use it for real. Please note that the live CDs will contain an installer, but that installer is still under development, so you can test it, but be more careful than with the normal install. [opensuse-announce] Advance notice of discontinuation of SUSE Linux 10.0

Dear opensuse-security-announce subscribers and SUSE Linux users, SUSE Security announces that SUSE Linux 10.0 will be discontinued soon. Having provided security-relevant fixes for more than two years, vulnerabilities found in SUSE Linux 10.0 after November 15th 2007 will not be fixed any more for this product. We expect to release the last updates around November 30th 2007. Please do not confuse SUSE Linux 10.0 with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10, these are two different products. As a consequence, the SUSE Linux 10.0 distribution directory on our ftp server ftp.suse.com will be moved from /pub/suse/10.0/ to the /pub/suse/discontinued/ directory tree structure to free space on our mirror sites. The 10.0 directory in the update tree /pub/suse/update/10.0 will follow, as soon as all updates have been published. The discontinuation of SUSE Linux 10.0 enables us to focus on the SUSE Linux and openSUSE distributions of a newer release dates to ensure that our customers can continuously take advantage of the quality that they are used to with SUSE Linux products. This announcement holds true for SUSE Linux 10.0 only. As usual, SUSE will continue to provide update packages for the following products: SUSE Linux 10.1 openSUSE 10.2 and openSUSE 10.3 (currently in development) for a two-year period after the release of the respective distribution. Please note that the maintenance cycles of SUSE Linux Enterprise products and products based on the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server operating system are not affected by this announcement and have longer life cycles.
