Join the openSUSE Project for a day of fun and FOSS at the LinuxWorld Expo! On Wednesday, August 6th, the openSUSE Project will be holding its first "openSUSE Day" in North America, in conjuction with the LinuxWorld Expo at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. We'll have a full day of presentations about the openSUSE Project, KDE, GNOME, the Linux kernel, the openSUSE Build Service, and much more. Come by and learn all about openSUSE, pick up an openSUSE 11.0 DVD and some of the fabulous door prizes -- We'll be giving away two Chumby's (must be present to win) and tons of openSUSE swag -- including openSUSE t-shirts, caps, and other big prizes. Hi everybody, I am pleased to announce, on behalf of SuSE's kernel teams, the first openSUSE Kernel bug squashing day: Wednesday, July 30th 2008; that is: as of now! Our goals are: - Reduce the number of (openSUSE) kernel bugs in Novell's bugzilla; - Clean out all those ancient and no longer valid bugs; - Identify duplicates; - Upstream as many of the bugs (and patches) as possible; - For the remaining bugs, help their triaging and resolution along. - Help test and review fixes. No bug is sacred! Interested members from the openSUSE community are invited to join us on irc.freenode.net, channel #opensuse-kernel for live coordination and participation on that day; the SUSE kernel teams will be there too, and we look forward to challenging bugs and successful cooperation. The KDE developers, including the openSUSE KDE Team, have been working on it for the last six months. Lots of feedback from people trying out KDE 4.0 has gone into KDE 4.1, filling most of the gaps people experienced with the 4.0 releases. See the release announcement [2] for more information and screenshots KDE 4.1 Packages, openSUSE-based KDE 4.1 Live CD Regular KDE 4 Packages [3] and an openSUSE-based KDE Four Live CD [4] have been available throughout the whole cycle, and final versions of them are also available now. On openSUSE 11.0 you can use 1-click-install to get the KDE 4.1 desktop environment (for openSUSE 10.3 follow link #3): http://files.opensuse.org/opensuse/en/d/dd/Kde4-ymp.png Or you can choose to install a more basic KDE 4 desktop. [opensuse-announce] openSUSE 11.1 Alpha1 is available

Hi everyone, openSUSE 11.1 Alpha1 is available -- but beware, this is an Alpha with very rough edges! While testing this on a Thinkpad R51, the system didn't boot after first stage installation. We are still looking into this issue (#411937). In addition to that, the default GNOME installation will complain about a missing package (providing gnome-session-branding)[1]. With the current bootloader issue, using the DVDs for installing is not recommended, until we have a workaround.
