openSUSE Factory now builds for the IBM z Systems architecture in a
special ports project called openSUSE:Factory:zSystems.
== Goal ==
This project is targeted to improve the integration of z Systems
technology into the openSUSE distribution. This is done by several
means:
- it allows the openSUSE community to actively work on a distribution
targeted for z Systems like LinuxOne Emperor and LinuxOne Rockhopper.
- build issues can be found much earlier than during SUSE Linux
Enterprise release cycles.
- new features can be integrated without having to wait for service
packs.
- allow customers to participate in the base development for future
SUSE Linux Enterprise products.
== Status ==
The project openSUSE:Factory:zSystems has been setup several weeks ago
as a new project in the Open Buildservice. The packages in this project
are inherited from openSUSE:Factory. Most of the packages already build
without issues. This project now has been made publicly accessible.

== Communication ==
The port of openSUSE:Factory to z Systems is a new project, and thus
still needs some work on documentation. A wiki page has been created to
start with, and it will be expanded as needed. Find the entry point to
the wiki at:
https://en.opensuse.org/ZSystems
For communication like status, development question etc. a mailing list
has been setup. To subscribe to this mailing list, use the web
interface found at:
https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-zsystems
For more immediate communication, an IRC channel has been prepared on
freenode.net:
irc://irc.freenode.net/openSUSE-zSystems
Note, that there is a lot of documentation available for the openSUSE
Buildservice, that is applicable for this project as well.
