There is a problem with the KDE default theme, and also with the qtcurve
style.
There is not enough contrast between the scroll bar and the background (where
the scroll bar slides).
Very often I need to squint and look hard to see where the scroll bar is. The
scroll bar needs to be easily visible because it offers indication of how
long a page is and where I am reading it.
I suggest making the background darker or making the scroll-bar blueish.
I'll filed this as a bug in kde bug tracker
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=144702

Hi there,
during the weekend I rethought my network settings module mock-ups and
made new ones.
http://en.opensuse.org/YaST/Network_Card_Module
The new mock-ups base on the following assumptions:
* The goal of the module is to set up basic network settings
* The following personas may use the module:
** Carla, a student, who uses openSUSE on his laptop and often needs to
change between different configurations
** Mike, a sysadmin, who uses openSUSE in a network and needs to do a lot
of configuration
** Thomas, a pupil, who uses openSUSE to connect himself to the internet
via his network card.
I draw the following conclusions:
* Thomas doesn`t want to bother himself with the network settings, so he
just hopes that the recommended settings are sufficient to allow him to
connect his DSL modem
* Mike is happy, that openSUSE offers him such a detailled configuration,
but he doesn`t want to do the configuration all the time
* Carla is a non-technical user, so she needs to switch between the
profiles very easily.
These conclusion imply:
* the network settings should allow the user to use automatic IP address
setup via DHCP and automatic DNS selection per default or maybe via a
profile called "Broadband/DSL" or something
* profiles can be easily applied and selected either to switch between
different network settings to spare time while making a new one (no body
likes to do nearly the same work twice and this reduces the amount of
possible errors as well).
What do you think about that concept?
As always I am looking forward to your comments!
Enjoy,
Martin
PS: Will, I will really try to talk to you this week about the Network
Manager stuff :-)

Hi Francis,
thanks for your feedback :-)

In my opinion it will. Apple is successful with this concept, so why won`t
we be? :-)
It shares two adavantages:
* people don`t need a lot of experience to get their tasks done
* nonetheless, we give the user the possibility to configure this profile
according to his needs as well

It has worked fine until now and it is used in other modules (e.g. sound
cards or printer).
But, I agree with you, that doesn`t necessarily mean that it is the best
way :-)
I played around with some possibilities:
* have the "Configure Network Card" under the list: this makes it
difficult for the user to locate the button as it is somewhat hidden
between the two boxes.
* having the "Configure Network Card" separated from the info box might
mislead the user that "configure profile" will give him access to edit the
interface name or the activation of the network card.
If you have any other ideas or thoughts, just let me know :-)
> I see part of the problem though: the configure profile button needs

> the text and one below is messy. Hmm.
Right :-)

Can anyone just pass it to me? Would be nice :-)
Enjoy,
Martin

Ah, OK, so it was a misunderderstanding from my side.
Sorry for confusing you!

Hi,
there is a new idea for editing addresses of a network card:
http://en.opensuse.org/YaST/Network_Card_Module (it is in the mockup
gallery beneath: "Editing addresses of a network card")
The basic idea was to hide the setup possibilities people are not using
very often (like: AUTOIP and DHCP+AUTOIP) in a combo box, which cleans up
the design and decreases possible confusion of non-technical users.
To avoid confusion for non-expert users there is currently the suggestion
that the user has to enable additional addresses via a check box.
I am looking forward to your comments!
Enjoy,
Martin
