Hi, Is it there any way to configure stateful packet inspection rules in SuSEfirewall2 for masquerade networks? When I configure a rule in FW_MASQ_NETS in order to allow traffic from the outside to the DMZ, I also have to configure a rule for responses. Example: Incoming traffic to my web server in a DMZ with private addresses FW_FORWARD_MASQ="0/0,192.168.1.5,tcp,80 I also need to set up the following rules in order to let responses out FW_MASQ_NETS="192.168.1.5/32,0/0,tcp,1024:65535" This rule permits not only established sessions, but additionally it allows my web server to establish connections to the outside world. Dont know why the FW_FORWARD rules are stateful as I want, but FW_MASQ_NETS ones dont. Any suggestion? Is it possible to math the SYN, ACK and FIN TCP bits with SuSEfirewall2? Thanks in advance. Hi Andy, this looks like you'll need some centralised authentication service. Try set up an ldap server and configure your ftp server to use pam authentication with ldap. You'll still need to set up a local userid for filesystem permissions though. ssh on different interfaces

Hi suse-security, at the moment i use ssh to administrate a suse linux 9.3 server from the local network. the sshd is not accessible from any externel interface. (the server acts as gateway to the internet) but now exists a need of getting access to a service of one client machine from the internet, which i want to be secured via ssh-tunnel. the problem now is that i want different options for ssh listening on the local interface and the external one. for example the login from the external if should only be possible for a special group with key-athentication and should not listen on port 22 while the login from the internal network should be less secured and can accessible via a normal password-auth. whats the best way to do this? should i start 2 sshd and create a 2nd (rc)sshd in init.d with different options? -- Mit freundlichen Grüssen V. antivir updates not working anymore under 10.0?

Hi For about 3 weeks I'm unable to update my antivir on my suse 10.0 machine. I get this error: - error updating the VDF database (inc) error updating the VDF database See log files for details. - The logs say: May 24 13:28:12 server antivir[31553]: Error: unable to verify runmode of update May 24 13:28:12 server antivir[31553]: AntiVir FAILED to update itself Unfortunately I wasn't able to find anything about this runmode problem... I tought it might be a license problem but neither with the license included in the 10.1 rpm (valid till june 2006, COMMERCIAL) nor with the license from the latest tarball (valid till july 2006, PERSONAL) i was able to perform an update. It works perfectly on the 10.1 machine tough !!! I've reinstalled it several times from the rpm or from the tarball - each time removing all occurences i knew about (/etc/(antivir¦avguard).conf, /usr/lib/AntiVir).... ZenWorks is broken. YOU doesn't seem to work. It looks like Novell changed the way their update servers work, breaking fou4s. Anyone know any workarounds? The only ray of hope is that apt is now an official package and seems to work great. I wonder if it might be easier to have fou4s work through apt, rather than the current system?

Hallo Seit ca 3 Wochen kann sich mein antivir unter SuSE 10.0 nicht mehr updaten - gibt immer einen oder beide von diesen Fehlern: error updating the VDF database error updating the scan engine Auch bei einem frischen System kriege ich das..... Auf meinem 10.1er Suse läufts problemlos Mit dem 10.1er RPM funktioniert das Update jedoch unter 10.0 *NICHT* ??! ...help? Im Antivir-forum scheint leider niemand von denen reinzuschauen......... Grüsse Matti

I think clamav is important enough to be placed on the 3,5Gbyte which fits on 5 cd. :-) thanks guido
