VPN without fixed IP

hi there, I'm trying to build-up a VPN-Entrance over our Linux-Router (Kernel 2.4.4). Some Road-Warriors of our Company should get the ability to get access to our NT-Server with a Sysbase-DB. First of all I have to learn something about its (VPN) functions: What about DSL-VPN? Is there any chance to create a VPN without a Server-Side fixed IP-Adress? Which Documentation of VPN-Knowledge do you perfer? Thanx4help, René

While this service is being considered valuable and important to the free and open source software community, many users wish to be sure about the origin of the package and its content before installing the package. There are two verification methods that can be used independently from each other to prove the authenticity of a downloaded file or rpm package: 1) md5sums as provided in the (cryptographically signed) announcement. 2) using the internal gpg signatures of the rpm package. 1) execute the command md5sum <name-of-the-file.rpm> after you downloaded the file from a SuSE ftp server or its mirrors. Then, compare the resulting md5sum with the one that is listed in the announcement. Since the announcement containing the checksums is cryptographically signed (usually using the key security(a)suse.de), the checksums show proof of the authenticity of the package. We disrecommend to subscribe to security lists which cause the email message containing the announcement to be modified so that the signature does not match after transport through the mailing list software. Downsides: You must be able to verify the authenticity of the announcement in the first place. If RPM packages are being rebuilt and a new version of a package is published on the ftp server, all md5 sums for the files are useless. 2) rpm package signatures provide an easy way to verify the authenticity of an rpm package. Use the command rpm -v --checksig <file.rpm> to verify the signature of the package, where <file.rpm> is the filename of the rpm package that you have downloaded. Of course, package authenticity verification can only target an uninstalled rpm package file. Prerequisites: a) gpg is installed b) The package is signed using a certain key. The public part of this key must be installed by the gpg program in the directory ~/.gnupg/ under the user's home directory who performs the signature verification (usually root). You can import the key that is used by SuSE in rpm packages for SuSE Linux by saving this announcement to a file ("announcement.txt") and running the command (do "su -" to be root): gpg --batch; gpg < announcement.txt | gpg --import SuSE Linux distributions version 7.1 and thereafter install the key "build(a)suse.de" upon installation or upgrade, provided that the package gpg is installed. limited remote print server

Does anyone know of any docs on giving machines with certain ips the ability to print remotely while blocking all others? hey guys ... i am sorry for this small OT question but i am really in need and i would like some help i am compiling the kannel gateway (gateway-1.1) and when i do ./configure it complains that libxml is old try version 2.2.0 i am currently running 1.8.11 and also have libxml2-2.3.6 i have searched and i cant seem to find anything suse rpm neither can i find a tarball of libxml-2.2.0 if that is what it is supposed to be. i actually dont need libxml but i dont know how i can get rid of it .! i am completely out of time, and pretty much stuck ..!! does anyone have any idea where i can get libxml version 2.2.0 or how i can get rid of libxml i have actually tried to edit configure.in and configure and looked through some other files but i seem not to be able to get to the core of the problem. all help is appreciated David --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Hi, As I understand it you have to have a fixed ip address on your VPN server. When you dial into it you specify an IP address. Hope this helps - I have set up our VPN on SBS4.5 over ADSL. Tomcat running as root

Hi, I've contacted security(a)suse.de twice with this topic - no reply. Having detected that the default implementation of tomcat (Java servlet container and webserver) is started as root and doesn't change its identity, I'm quite alarmed. Thought everybody running tomcat should know this - especially when you allow foreign code (servlets) to be executed on your server. I believe it'd be better to change the startup script to use "sudo" to run as some other user (wwwrun?). Hopefully somebody at SuSE will react to this posting and change this default behaviour in the next version or security update.
