coding direction dilemma

Thanks to Synthetic Cartoonz <synthetoonz(a)bellsouth.net> for help to date. I have a direction dilemma and would like opinions. I have some excellent books, such as Douglas Young's "X Window System Programming and Applications with Xt" but it should have its title extended to include "... and with Athena and hp Widgets" This has been my problem: although it is a book on Xt it quietly throws in a command like ... XtCreateManagedWidget("rc", XwrowColWidgetClass, ...) and I spend frustrating hours trying to find an include file which contains XwrowColWidgetClass Ahhhhh! I think that I have to re-think my strategy: X11 is freely available I have Xt is freely available I have Xm motif, commercial, I do not have Xaw Athena ? I have Xw hp I do not have Qt commercial, excessive for my purposes Part of my problem has been my faith in these books. They read well, but, in spite of pretending to be books about X11 and Xt they quietly use Xaw, Xm, and Xw and I struggle to get the same code to work on my machine. Any suggestions? I feel that yours is a reasonable view. I wouldn't mind paying a reasonable fee for the compiler or any other tools; in fact I don't "rip off" stuff in general and don't undermine the music industry; but it is the "not knowing" which concerns me. And I really don't want to divert my time into learning the Qt system - a task in itself. I have since learnt a thousand time what I learnt at Uni, but at the moment I am flat out learning other things :-) Jerry has also made a good comment, so I'll respond to him separately. Given what you have both said I am thinking that I will probably manage to proceed okay. Greg, the last paragraph is not aimed at you; in fact it is aimed at certain others who will know who they are :-) So I will say, Best Regards Greg, Colin I don't mind sharing my ideas. In fact I have been a 'teacher' at secondary level, tertiary level, and in industry for many years, and it is one of my career strong points. So I have given away a lot, and will continue to do so. In fact the guy who gave me my current contract has said to his employees "Get what you can from Colin while he is here." I took that as a big compliment. But I have encountered some who steal ideas and tout them as their own, yet won't share their ideas. If somebody out there is trying to write some code to sell, and he needs advice on mathematics, physics, engineering, statistics, engineering then just ask - I may be able to give you something. But don't anybody TELL me that I have no right to own what I build.

Assuming the libraries are statically linked, it should have everything self contained, so it should run anywhere any X client could run. (In other words, a program using motif libraries should not be dependant on running under the motif window manager. Desperately seeking Watcom/SSI information.

I am using the watcom compiler with SSI linker for an embedded system. I'd like to find the manuals or any documentation for this older release. Here is stripped version of output (no proprietary data) to be able to see what versions / tools are used in the build process. We would be more that happy to pay any reasonable price for old hard-copy manuals or would VERY MUCH appreciate any electronic documentation. unsupported module, tainting kernel

Yes this is an old topic. I've read everything I could find including the README.SUSE file and couldn't find the straight answer to this question: How do I get rid of this message when I write a plain-vanilla "hello world" loadable module? MODULE_LICENSE is set to "GPL". I eventually want to release this module and don't want to jam a "2" into /proc/sys/kernel/unsupported. What's missing in the source code? TIA&Cheers

Read the find man page, but I will give you a quick summary of what may work. I am not sure why you want to "cd", so I'll exclude it in the example. find . -name script -exec \{} | program \; You need to escape the opening curly brace and the semi-colon so as not to confuse the shell, but that should work (you may need to escape the pipe, however, as well. The curly braces are replaced by the file found (including the path -- so you don't have to cd to it) so this should work. Thanks, Patrick

Hi, i am trying to write a small programm that changes the mouse cursor under X11 using the XCursor lib. My purpose it to use colour cursors (ideally read from an image file). I am playing with XCursor lib but i have no good results.
