Adding menu entires from an RPM install???

Hello all, I've asked on suse-linux-e and suse-autoinstall but have not received any answers to this question. I have made an RPM for SLES 8 and need to add an entry to the user's desktop menus in KDE and Gnome. These RPMs will be installed during a network install (see the problem in this processes below). How do I do this? I see that when desktop entries are placed here they work: /etc/opt/{kde3,gnome}/share/... **** But I ran into a problem **** I now have these desktop menu entries for the RPM that I have built: /etc/opt/gnome/SuSE/System/Configuration/myapp.desktop /etc/opt/gnome/share/gnome/distribution-menus/SuSE/System/Configuration/myapp.desktop /etc/opt/gnome/share/gnome/distribution-menus/SuSE/System/myapp.desktop /etc/opt/kde3/share/applnk/SuSE/Settings/myapp.desktop /etc/opt/kde3/share/applnk/SuSE/System/Configuration/myapp.desktop /etc/opt/kde3/share/applnk/SuSE/System/myapp.desktop This works well when installed on an existing system. Need help/hint of resolving invalid memory access

Hi, I know that the following error is caused by invalid memory access in my program... but how do I pinpoint the exact location? ==4384== Invalid read of size 4 ==4384== at 0x4052B855: std::string::assign(std::string const&) (in /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5.0.4) ==4384== by 0x804F576: TopBuilder::readHost(char const*, PPool&) (/usr/include/g++/bits/basic_string.h:358) ==4384== by 0x804EAB1: TopBuilder::buildNet(std::string const&, PPool&) (TopBuilder.cpp:140) ==4384== by 0x804A0FF: main (main.cpp:59) ==4384== by 0x405A3856: __libc_start_main (in /lib/libc.so.6) ==4384== by 0x8049ED0: (within /home/cincai/tmp/gsim/src/rrsched/rrsched) ==4384== Address 0x0 is not stack'd, malloc'd or free'd So far I've found that this is caused by the combination of access to map and vector. Problem is, I created a separate testing and it works. Afterall, the suspicious statements are simply "m[name] = &factory" and "field.push_back(c)", where "m" is map<string, const Factory*> and "field" is vector<string>. Speech Recognition Software

Hi, Sorry for multiple postings, but I wasn't quite sure which list to direct this question to. I was wondering if anyone knows SuSE's current intentions towards Speech Recognition Software? I know that most of the distributions used to package ViaVoice, but this has now become defunct.I am interested to know if SuSE or KDE are going to try to work with any other recognition toolkit for linux in the near future. If SuSE or any of the large linux groups have chosen a speech recongition toolkit, then it tgives the rest of us in research a large indiction of which software to expect to become readily available. In some recent reading, I see CMU Sphinx as being one promising toolkit, but it is limited in a curent lack of multi-lingual support. In particular there is no readily available German Acoustic model, and a sizeable amount of effort would be required to put one together by trained linguists. HR POSIX Timers

This is my first post in the list so "Hello there!" We've been working with High Resolution Timers in Linux under many differents distributions. For standard 2.4.18 and 2.4.20 kernel sources we've found some interesting patches at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/high-res-timers/ But now in Suse 8.2 we're getting a lot of errors and problems,it's not possible to adapt those patches to Suse kernel sources and we are not able to find anything similar to them in the Internet.Does anybody know anything like them in Suse? Compiler doesn't see exception as declared

I have almost identical code in two programs. The only major difference I can think of is that the one that works has everything defined in the header file. The code that fails is included below. I have tried several things to get g++ to see the exceptions as declared. I've been using KDevelop alpha to do some of this. one thing it's producing for me is the autotools output such as Make, ./configure, etc. That *may* be where the problem lies, but I tend to think otherwise. The problem is in the last block of code below. If i remove the qotes from the other exception, I get the same problem with that. If anybody has a clue, I'd sure appreciate some guidance. Converting C FILE to C++ fstream

I have an application where I am using popen: FILE *popen(const char *command, const char *type); In a previous contract, we had a way to convert FILE * to fstream (instream or ostream). I prefer that my application be as pure C++ as possible. In a quick search, I have not found a safe way to do it.
