Hi, I'm trying to learn glade. autogen.sh failed on my first try; giving the error below: ./configure: line 4068: syntax error near unexpected token `PACKAGE,' ./configure: line 4068: `PKG_CHECK_MODULES(PACKAGE, $pkg_modules)' Then i learned that i had to install pkgconfig; i did so; but this time autogen gave the following error: checking for gtk+-2.0 >= 2.0.0... Package gtk+-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gtk+-2.0.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable No package 'gtk+-2.0' found configure: error: Library requirements (gtk+-2.0 >= 2.0.0) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them. How do i have to set PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable? Thanks in advance.

is read() evil in usermode?

Hi, I am writing, done actually, a littl app that carries on a few things that I ask it to do. There is a point where I need my app to wait till I press any key so it can keep moving. I tried with getchar, even doing fflush(stdin) first, but the app goes right throught it, it seems like something forces a bypass over getchar, so I decided to try read() and wait for 1 character. It works great.. but is it elegant and convenient to use a system call for a usermode app ? Shouldnt I use a library wrapper? What glibc function should I use to wait for a return(enter) or any other key to be pressed? This is C. Thanks, Raul

Gcc 3.3

Hi, I have a problem with sources that used to compile with previous versions of gcc: char[] = " Its a sample Of compiling a Char array"; It used to compile with previous version, now it complains with "no matching " ending found"(something like that). I managed to edit the source and changed to: char[] = "its a sample" "of compiling a" "char array"; This time, the compiler did not complain, but I don't know if it is the answer, and I can't modify lots of old source code. Is there any switch to pass the compiler so it recognizes this old behavior, and I can compile old code? Thanks in advance for any help...

But when I said lots of code, I didn't mean it was my code. I recently downloaded alsa 0.93, and I saw the same thing. Also I downloaded vdkbuilder, and had the same problem. So I think I can have lots of problems with old code, and not so old too. Thanks!!

GCC 3.3 release packages for SuSE Linux 8.2 available

I'm glad to announce that packages for the released GCC 3.3 are available for SuSE Linux 8.2. To gain a bigger Audience, we would invite you to download and test these packages. The packages are not available as regular YOU updates but rather under /pub/people/pthomas. How to use https ?

Dear my friends... I want to use "<input type="password" ...>" HTML tag. But I am affraid that somebody taps my password. So I want to use https instead of http. I want the users type their password into the input tag through https. But I don't know how to implement that. My homepage is on a server of a webhosting company. Build error because of "-lz"

Hi, when I'm building a package, I got this error: gcc -g -O2 -o .libs/example1 example1.o ../../src/.libs/libsimgrid.so \ -lpthread /usr/lib/libxml2.so -lz -lm -Wl,--rpath -Wl,/usr/local/lib \ /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-suse-linux/3.3/../../../../i486-suse-linux/bin/ld:\ cannot find -lz collect2: ld returned 1 exit status I'd like to know if this is because I'm missing some packages/settings before I contact the maintainer? SRPMS recompile

some problems with recursive automake

Hi, I have some problem with recursive automake works. Here's the project directory structure: testauto/ build/ config/ src/ main.c hello.h hello.c Makefile.am Makefile.am configure.in Basically, main.c includes hello.h and will be linked to hello.c. Overriding some C++ class methods

Hi. I am a bit new to C++ so i would like to ask if someone knows the following: I want to override only one method of a widget in Qt library. To do this i create my own class, which inherits that widget, and i declare just that one method in my new class. The problem is that the compiler (g++) complains about the constructors. Do i need also to override ALL the constructors of that widget? (there are many of them). If so, isn't there another way of implementing this? I mean just to override the method that i am interested in and not any other thing in that widget class. Thanks.

Troubleshooting help

I need some advice on how to troubleshoot an app crash. First, I'm used to getting core images in UNIX, I have never seen one in Linux. Do I have to enable those somehow? My issue: 3dmd (3ware's raid daemon) works fine in SuSE 8.0. It is unreliable with SuSE 8.2 3ware distributes it as a binary. I don't think source is available, but I'm hoping I can figure out the problem and fix it by modifying something in the SuSE distro. Per "ldd /usr/sbin/3dmd" it is "not a dynamic executable", so it should not be a library issue. My troubleshooting: I start 3dmd with: strace -ff -o /tmp/3dmd /usr/sbin/3dmd 3dmd then fires off a child processes. The first child in turn forks off at least 3 children of its own. It runs fine until I connect to it with a browser and click "Send Test Message". Then all 5 processes disappear from the process table and the browser times out. Looking at the strace output I see a seg. fault with one of the final 3 child processes. I have included the last 50 lines of the strace below my signature. The seg fault is near the top. The strace is not telling me anything useful, what other steps can I take? suse 8.2 and kdevelop

hello i just installed suse 8.2 pro edition and i did full install. i have two problems regarding suse 8.2 and kdevelop, 1. kde documentation doesn't get detected by kdevelop --setup, after manually adding directory, where api docs are stored (in next step), htdig shows up with an error that it can't find htdig.conf! 2. i'm newbie at developing and i need <math.h> header and abs() function from it, it appears that during compile i get error about abs() function not found ?! It all worked fine on preuvisly installed RH8 system. regards, himba

g++ from suse 8.2 generates broken code

c++ array problem

Hi all, I've just started to learn C++ in the last few days and have some accross a small problem. I am trying to build an array to take a number of inputs and print these inputs to stdout. I have read as much material as I can to try and understand why my small program will not compile to no avail. Can anyone point me in the right direction.
