Hier nun die Zusammenfassung des ersten IRC-Meetings im neuen Jahr.
1.) Offene Aufgaben
Im Endeffekt wurden viele Aufgaben über die Feiertage nicht fertig. Da
weder Jordi noch JDSN anwesend waren, gibt es über ihre Aufgaben keine
Information. Lars hat an der Dokumentation für die Erstellung der
Edu-CD geschrieben, ist aber noch nicht ganz fertig. Außerdem gibt es
inzwischen ein funktionales GUI vom YaST-SquidGuard Modul - aber das
Backend ist noch nicht fertig.
2.) Status der Edu-CD
Trotz final Release der 10.2 Edu-CD gab es bislang nur wenig Feedback
von außerhalb. Lars hat ein paar Statistiken ausgekramt, die aber
Aufgrund von Wartungsarbeiten am Server mit Vorsicht zu genießen sind.
So gab es schon über 400 Downloads der
openSUSE-Education-1.0-for-10.2.iso - allerdings haben einige Nutzer es
wohl mehrfach versucht, bzw. gleich mehrere Downloads parallel
gestartet. Das Online-Repo für die 10.2 hatte in dieser Zeit nur 20
Zugriffe.
Einem glücklichem Umstand verdankt das Edu-Projekt seinen ersten
größeren Erfolg: in Zusammenarbeit mit Novell und Extis können
deutsche, österreichische und schweitzerrische Schulen seit Dezember
2007 kostenlos openSUSE 10.2 Boxen inkl. der openSUSE-Education 1.0 für
10.2 von Extis beziehen. Dabei fallen für die Schulen nur die
Versandkosten an. Extis hat dabei auch gleich ein Layout für die Edu-CD
erstellt!
Update: Seit Anfang dieser Woche kann die "openSUSE-Education 1.0 für
openSUSE 10.2" nun auch über den offiziellen Bittorrent Tracker von
openSUSE heruntergeladen werden.
Der Releasetermin von openSUSE-Education 1.0 für 10.3 konnte leider
nicht eingehalten werden. Entsprechend wurden jetzt neue
Release-Termine besprochen. Diese sind:
* 08.02.2008 für den ersten Release Candidate
* 22.02.2008 für den zweiten Release Candidate und hoffentlich
finale Version
Bis dahin wollen die Entwickler noch einige Pakete (u.a. Gambas und
Pascal) hinzufügen und Fehler in den bisherigen Pakete beseitigen.
Ein Problem sind bislang die Übersetzungen der Patterns und
Paketbeschreibungen in verschiedene Sprachen. Die Patterns liegen
derzeit in Deutsch, Englisch und Russisch vor. Die Paketbeschreibungen
gibt es bislang nur auf Englisch, weil hier direkt auf die
Beschreibungen des jeweiligen RPMs zurückgegriffen wird. Lars hofft,
bis zum RC2 der 10.3 auf der openSUSE-Education Webseite eine
Möglichkeit zur Übersetzung von Zusammenfassung und Beschreibung der
einzelnen Pakete zur Verfügung stellen zu können (Stichwort: "PDB:
Paket-Datenbank"). Dann könnten die Nutzer selbst die Übersetzungen
schreiben und die Entwickler bräuchten sich nicht um die Rückportierung
der Übersetzungen in die RPMs kümmern. Zusätzlich bliebe damit auch die
RPM-Datenbank auf den Rechnern der Benutzer schlank.
3.) Fragen bezgl. einzelner Pakete
Es tauchte die Frage auf, ob für die auf der 1.0 enthaltenen Pakete
Updates in Form von Patches angeboten werden sollen. Prinzipiell wäre
dies möglich, würde aber einen entsprechenden Entwicklungsaufwand
bedeuten, weil die Entwickler dann nicht nur die Pakete fixen sondern
auch Patches schreiben müssten. Zusätzlich sollten diese Patches dann
natürlich auch in übersetzter Form vorliegen, wie man das von openSUSE
gewohnt ist.
Um Zeit für die Entwicklung der Version für die 10.3 und der
Paket-Datenbank zu haben, wurde die Idee für die Version 1.0 von
openSUSE-Education nun verworfen. Mit der nächsten Version von
openSUSE-Education soll es dann aber auch Updates geben.
Die Pakete stardict, stardict-tools, galculator, tuxmath und tuxtype
wurden aktualisiert. Neu hinzugekommen sind atomix und fbreader.
