CVE-2006-3738/VU#547300: A Google security audit found a buffer overflow condition within the SSL_get_shared_ciphers() function which has been fixed. CVE-2006-4343/VU#386964: The above Google security audit also found that the OpenSSL SSLv2 client code fails to properly check for NULL which could lead to a server program using openssl to crash. CVE-2006-2937: Fix mishandling of an error condition in parsing of certain invalid ASN1 structures, which could result in an infinite loop which consumes system memory. CVE-2006-2940: Certain types of public key can take disproportionate amounts of time to process. This could be used by an attacker in a denial of service attack to cause the remote side top spend an excessive amount of time in computation. 2) Solution or Work-Around There is no known workaround, please install the update packages. 3) Special Instructions and Notes None. 4) Package Location and Checksums The preferred method for installing security updates is to use the YaST Online Update (YOU) tool. YOU detects which updates are required and automatically performs the necessary steps to verify and install them. Alternatively, download the update packages for your distribution manually and verify their integrity by the methods listed in Section 6 of this announcement. The authenticity and integrity of a SUSE security announcement is guaranteed by a cryptographic signature in each announcement. All SUSE security announcements are published with a valid signature. To verify the signature of the announcement, save it as text into a file and run the command gpg --verify <file> replacing <file> with the name of the file where you saved the announcement. While this service is considered valuable and important to the free and open source software community, the authenticity and the integrity of a package needs to be verified to ensure that it has not been tampered with. There are two verification methods that can be used independently from each other to prove the authenticity of a downloaded file or RPM package: 1) Using the internal gpg signatures of the rpm package 2) MD5 checksums as provided in this announcement 1) The internal rpm package signatures provide an easy way to verify the authenticity of an RPM package. Use the command rpm -v --checksig <file.rpm> to verify the signature of the package, replacing <file.rpm> with the filename of the RPM package downloaded. The package is unmodified if it contains a valid signature from build(a)suse.de with the key ID 9C800ACA. This key is automatically imported into the RPM database (on RPMv4-based distributions) and the gpg key ring of 'root' during installation. You can also find it on the first installation CD and at the end of this announcement. 2) If you need an alternative means of verification, use the md5sum command to verify the authenticity of the packages. Execute the command md5sum <filename.rpm> after you downloaded the file from a SUSE FTP server or its mirrors. Then compare the resulting md5sum with the one that is listed in the SUSE security announcement. Because the announcement containing the checksums is cryptographically signed (by security(a)suse.de) the checksums show proof of the authenticity of the package if the signature of the announcement is valid. [opensuse-security] A snag in printing

I recently installed 10.2 and have encountered what seems to be a permissions problem with cups. Both as a normal user and as root, any attempt to print results in a "Quota limited reached." error message. Needless to say, this presents a significant issue trying to print to this queue from remote. I've Googled, conferred with more experienced users/admins, and have only been able to locate others with the same issue, but no fixes. As this has impacted my entire network, I need to get it resolved asap. Dear folks, I'm sure this is a FAQ, but it looks like I'm running against walls when searching for the answer. Hi there, just installed acroread-7.0.9-2.1.i586.rpm for SUSE 10.0 few days back which updates acroread to version 7.0.9. Actually "acroread -version" confirms that. But, when starting acroread and looking at the about box it stills tells version 7.0.8... Is Adobe fixing bugs so hasty, they don´t have the time to change version numbers? [opensuse-security] Conecting from Linux to MS VPN server

Hi all, I am not sure whether this is the right place to ask, but lets try.... In my previous job we use to have a suse linux as default desktop on our machines. Few months ago I have changed my job and I would like to use Linux on my notebook. Unfortunately I can not expect any help from our IT department.... So I have received a working windows xp notebook with preinstalled software on it (including windows vpn client L2TP). I have installed on one part of the hard disk SUSE 10.1 and made a basic setup. In the office all works fine, but since travel a lot a need to access the network via VPN in order to download my emails. Can somebody give me a hint how to proceed? Hello, I had this problem after and upgrade from 10.1 to 10.2. So I thought I had better wipe the disk and install from scratch. I dd /dev/null to the whole distk and created new partitions just to be sure. I have the exact same problem right after installation. I have it with many commands the two that bother me the most are rkhunter and I think clamav when amavisd is running. I have been unable to figure out why I keep seeing this message. For example with rkhunger I get... SCRIPT: suse.de-rkhunter exited with RETURNCODE = 1. [opensuse-security] Question on wiping S390 fiber attached storage

Everyone, Since there isn't a list on the S390 architecture, it seems this list is the closest to what I'm looking for. In a nutshell, I'm looking for software that supports S390 architecture and wiping fiber attached storage to DOD standards. The S390 software we have only wipes mainframe storage, not fiber attached storage. I've used shred with great results, but it does have the caution on journaled file systems (we're using reiser and ext3). Let me know if there are suggestions. Hi, i can't mount usbfs After installation i have in fstab the usbfs entry with mountpoint in /proc/bus/usb , but if i try to mount i receive the error message that mountpoint /proc/bus/usb do not exist! Any suggestion?
