I use suse 9.3 pro on home network. Boxed retail DVD set. Suse firewall. Security updates are current. KDE Konqueror and / or Firefox. Comcast cable internet service provider. No alias. Everyday I am seeing spam email which is a reflection of complex sensitive key word phrases I had typed into google just a few days previously. What are the security implications of this? How do I configure what I have to stop this? What additional measures might be appropriate? Is this spying for commercial purposes or could it be US Government spying? The linux network worm? Aliasing? Fire wall configuration? Stop always connected cable internet and go back to using on demand dialup.? My first reactions are to look into aliasing. Or go back to on demand dialup. But if keystrokes are being detected then there is no security. Very alarming. Thanks to any who can help Martin

(I think NMAP is great, even though the KDE-GUI from Guru didn't work for reports, but I just finds open ports and doesn't do anything beyond that.) -- HG.

amavis-new and spamassassin

Hi list, I use Suse 10 with postfix - amavis-new and clamav. I want to define a spam control policy but I have same problem. First of all if i have a mail that has a score of 5.64 it arrives to the mailbox without adding flags in the header or rewriting subject. Second amavis doesn't do the rbl check. tcpdump problem

Hi list, I am running Suse 10 with the last kernel 2.6.13-15.7-default. I have a problem when running tpcdump i have the following error : # tcpdump -i eth0 tcpdump: socket: Address family not supported by protocol I have the same message with iptraf. In the file /var/log/messages i have found a messages like this : tcpdump uses obsolete (PF_INET,SOCK_PACKET) Can anyone help me. Thanks. Cristian Del Carlo

OpenSSH scp command expansion bug - is it local or remote?

1. Thanks for the patch and announcement today : SUSE-SA:2006:008 2. There seems to have been a co-ordinated disclosure and release of patches for CVE-2006-0225 on January 25. Why did SuSE (and Debian) not participate in that? Did the other vendors choose not to co-ordinate with SuSE (and Debian) ? 3. I have now avidly read the majorr reports of CVE-2006-0225, most of whom classify it as low priority, and all classify as local. It seems to me, from the reports I read, that it is a local privilege escalation that allows an authenticated scp user to execute arbitrary shell commands, even if they have scp-only privileges. I am not in any way a skilled penetration tester - so I have to make a judgement based on what I read. Have I misunderstood the other reports, or have the other reports got it right, or have SuSE discovered something new that makes it indeed a *remote* vulnerability? David

Said that, I would like to confirm the bug reported from Carlos E.R. about the security update available on YOU to correct a bug of Hylafax. UDP encapsulation in Suse 10?

Hello all, I am successful in setting up IPSec with preshared keys (both transport and tunnel ) using racoon between two Suse Linux 10 machines. I would like to know if there is already UDP encapsualation capability integrated with Freeswan implementation on Suse Linux ( kernel release 2.6.13-15). Because the README files for NAT traversal says, I need to patch up the kernel. Do I have to do it and if yes, where to get the patches from, kindly point me to the right direction. If anyone has any more info, a how to or related info that can be shared, would be very much helpful, thanks and regards, pj

File and folder access auditing, how?

Hello! Is it possible to set up file and folder access auditing on SuSE 9.2 or later (10.0)? If so, how would one do that? I have some sensitive information now on SuSE 9.2 (that might be updated to 10.X) and I'm looking for something similar to what I had in Windows. I want to have a log somewhere that would indicate who has used or tried to use the sensitive information. -- HG.
